Business Credit Cards:

Super Premium Credit Cards:

Increasing your HDFC Credit Card Limit:

While these are expected lower/upper limits on the mentioned cards, you can expect even higher credit limits on beginner cards based on these 5 Factors Influencing Your Credit Card Limit almost with any bank. Hello Siddhartha,

Today only I applied for upgradation to Regalia through my RM and just now I received an Email confirmation that my Card can be upgraded To DINERS Rewards..

Now the question Is How can I be eligible for Regalia but Not Diners Premium..

2ndly If I have to choose b/w Rewards and Regalia which way should I go..

    Pls advice, thanks in advance

RM generally doesnt know much. Ask bank directly over email.
If you’re eligible for regalia, Diners premium is easy to get.

Rewards or Regalia: answer is, if you want 10x rewards, go for Rewardz, else Regalia.

The bank is not very rigid about these limits. While receiving a higher limit than the max mentioned here is possible, it’s even more possible to get a lower limit. My card path with HDFC is Platinum Plus EMV => Diners Rewardz => Diners Black. With Platinum Plus EMV I initially had 84K which was doubled in a year considering my spends. Then when the card expired I got it upgraded to Diners Rewards (based on my request) and the limit was enhanced to 2L. I used this card for 3 years till it expired. In the course of this time the credit limit was enhanced to 2.6. Close to the expiry of the card I requested for upgrade to Diners Black. I was instead given option to upgrade to Regalia as the min limit for upgrading to Diners Black was 3L in your current card. But since my limit upgrade was due I chose it and had the limit enhanced to 3.6L and then got the card upgraded to Diners Black with a limit of 4L. But I had to give bank statements and current salary proofs again as this was quite an upgrade. I’ve been a HDFC credit card customer for more than 6 years now. My next target is Infinia but for me Infinia is more of a prestige card because no card has been as beneficial as the Diners Black for me at least.

interest varies a lot based on offers and card. Initial credit limit is usually 1x to 2x of your monthly salary.

    Dear Sid,

I have the HDFC Regalia CC with a recent credit limit upgraded to 4.87 lakhs
I also got the SBI Elite CC but with a low credit limit of only 1.83 lakhs (This card is just a month old)

Do you think I should drop out the ELITE CC after 1 year (Since Regalia is life time free, better perks, facilities, rewards)

I was expecting at least 5 lakh credit limit on the SBI ELITE but was disappointed

    Purpose of credit card
    1. Family care expenses
    2. Utility bill payments
    3. Flight bookings (Atleast once in 3 months)
    4. Luxury brand or online shopping (Once a month)
    5. Dinning/outing (Once a week)

Based on these lifestyle factors, do you think I should just stick to the Regalia card and drop out the SBI Elite (It is just like a status symbol and adds no value for me)

    Thank you

    Hi Siddharth,

Have to say your site is my personal bible for all things credit card.
I currently hold a Diners Rewardz with a 75k limit. Its the first credit card that I took. Apart from this, I use a SC Manhattan card for groceries and Uber benefits.

So far this combination was perfect, excellent 10x rewards on Diners (especially with Amazon as a new partner) and domestic lounge access (2-4 trips per quarter).

With the devaluation post Aug 15th, the Rewardz card is completely useless. Emailed the bank asking for an upgrade, they said since there is no available upgrades through netbanking for my account, I should send a physical form to Chennai.

My question basically is if this is worth all the hassle? I’ve had spends > 5L in 6 months on the Rewardz. Should I go for something like SBI Prime or do the drama of sending the form to Chennai? If so, what all information do I need to post apart from the form?

    P. S. Do I gamble for a Diners Black? 5L spends on 7L sal income. I have other income thats not part of my salary, but not there in last years ITR.

    1. Siddharth Post author

Diners Black is impossible with existing limit. SBI Prime or Yes First Preferred are good choices.

    2. Amex Guy

If you have income this year but not reflected in last year ITR, does it reflect in this year’s advance tax? If yes, HDFC does help using reverse liability support. If no but you still have qualifying income this year (21L per annum and above), you can get this card for 5L fixed deposit, if you’re willing to do that with appealing returns on FD.

This card will not be issued for a credit limit 4L. As Siddharth said, you’d be better served with SBI/Yes/IndusInd. If you want card-on-card, you only clear criteria for RBL and Standard Chartered, every other bank I know of requires that you hold the existing card for at least a year.

Per your last year ITR, you do qualify for Amex Gold. If your credit history warrants, a fresh Amex application may be the way to go. I’d rather gamble on that, if you must.

      Reply
      1. Will

Actually Amex Gold was my original plan. Checks all the right boxes, even got a referral to sign up. Problem – My city isn’t in the sign up list, hence Amex customer care said they cant process.

i havent used above 10% of my credit limit ever… and i always pay full outstanding before a week on due date.. i use emi facility on my card as well (too much)…. my hdfc account is a preferred account…. i currently own 4 other credit cards and 1 car loan as well and pay them correctly without any dues,,,, i have cibil score of 820+, may be for which i am getting rewarded for good credi score and thus higher limit enhancement.. my prev enhancemnet was from 7.2 to 9.2….. trying for an infinia card.. but my salary is keeping me back from getting one….

He has a car loan (secured loan against an asset i.e the car, in case of default) along with credit cards (unsecured loans) + repayment pattern is fine too.

I got Regalia with 3 Lakhs limit @ Rs.15,000/- per month salary way back in 2013! My income is now INR 3,00,000/- per year while Regalia limit is 8.5 Lakhs and the new SBI Prime card has given me 7 Lakh limit. Yearly addition to credit limit is around 30% on both the cards.

    2. shivi

That you might be able to get if you are invited by HDFC cards team to use Infinia. By the looks of it, you might as well get an invitation in the next or next to next yearly review.

First you need to get your credit limit increased to 5L. DCB currently with 10X points. But you need a back up if you travel overseas as diners acceptance is less. In India its now rare its accepted almost everywhere atleast in big cities.

5 Lakhs credit limit for HDFC card only or could it be across all Credit cards someone owns. Suppose, someone has 3 Credit cards including HDFC with total Credit limit of 10 Lakhs, is he eligible for DC Black ?

Hi Sid, The list above needs an update maybe for 2018, My Citi Indian oil card has 6L+ limit ! (progressively increased from 2.7L (2010) -> 4.5L (2013) > 6.3 (2016) , the new Amex (2018) is also 4L (got one inspired by your posts on Amex), these are very beginner to mid cards – I wonder how premium cards like Regalia / Diners has max limit of 5L only?

You can’t apply for any card in India without your own signature on the application form! Even the NRI version of the credit cards require you to be present to fill the form and sign it. It MIGHT be possible to get a credit card against FD without the signature clause.

What was your avg spends on regalai first? 1L to 7L is a huge jump. Do use your card more say 10L in 6 months and hit CL so they will know you need more limit. Once you get 8L+ CL + high spends + increase your relationship to imperia ( savings+ current+FD+RD+MF)

Take a secured credit card issued against FD. Almost all banks provide basic version of credit cards against FD(70-80% of FD amount). Some banks provide better cards also like yes bank provide Yes first preferred as LTF for min 3 lacs FD.

Taking a secured CC will help you build good cibil if you pay CC bill on time.

      Reply
    2. Ankur

Best way would be take credit line from ICICI or any bank based on FD issued card. Later when your cibil increases based on your repayment history, you can apply for other credit cards.

I have Regalia card since 2014 and it is due for renewal in February 2020. I have held HDFC Credit cards since 2008. First was Gold card with credit limit of only 30,000. Over the years my cards as well as credit limit were upgraded. Now limit on my regalia stands at 9.1 Lakhs. My card usage is rather heavy. For two years I qualified for additional 15000 points for annual spend of 8 Lakh+. Take home salary is 1.3 Lakhs per month. I have a good CIBIL score of 827.

I am wondering if I could get upgraded to Infinia in February. Only factor possibly inhibiting that would be income.

I am delighted to note that yesterday my Regalia card with credit limit 9.1 Lakhs was upgraded to Infinia with credit limit 11.1 Lakhs. For last more than a month, I used to check almost everyday if any credit card upgrade was being offered to me.Yesterday I found that offer sitting inside my netbanking. I had an inkling that this was on the table because on my Regalia card, they were willing to offer me Insta Jumbo loan of 10 Lakhs over and above my credit limit of 9.1 Lakhs. If HDFC Bank was willing to take unsecured exposure of 19.1 Lakhs on me, there is a reason to believe that I am creditworthy and I have brought good enough business to them over the years so offering Infinia is something I could expect.

It was an eventful journey of almost 12 years. I started with a basic gold card of HDFC Bank with a credit limit of 30,000 back in May 2008. I did not miss a single payment deadline over the years.I also took couple of Jumbo loans.I made HDFC card my primary credit card and made rather a heavy use. Now the result is in front of me.

      Feeling delighted.

        Hello Gaurav-
I am also an HDFC Regalia member currently standing at a limit of 5L with zero annual fee as part of private banking relationship with HDFC. I have stopped accepting further limit increases on it even though internet banking shows that they are willing to bump this up to 7L because I don’t see a need for a limit higher than 5L for my use. As I also have ICICI MMT Signature of 3L, SBI Gold 3.23L and Amex Smart Earn 3.2L. I do not see an income constraint or bank balance constraint for myself personally as I earn close to 5L per month. This should be enough to qualify for any openly available card on the market. But I am interested to know about the Infinia offer which is by invite only. Are they charging the annual fee for your upgrade? And do you think higher credit limit than 5L is necessary to get the Infinia?

        1. Tejas Ghongadi

If one is taking the upgrade route, the minimum credit limit required on an existing HDFC Card is 8 Lacs. Only then one would be considered for upgrade. There is still no guarantee that upgrade to Infinia will be given.

        2. Luke_Skywalker

You should always accept Credit Limit Enhancements since it helps reduce credit utilisation which inturn increases your credit score. Also for Infinia, usually a CL of about 8-9 Lacs is preferred.

          Reply
          1. Shivi

That’s a no-go Luke. Many cards don’t report the CL so the utilisation ratio is a debatable variable.

        3. Shivi

Infinia is now First year free and chargeable from second year onward but you can sometimes get an offer of LTF.

Usually a limit of 5 – 8 lakhs+ on existing credit card is needed for Infinia if following the card upgrade route however in your case you can directly send the card upgrade form to their head office along with your ITR/Salary slips and you’ll get Infinia.

        4. Ramesh Kumar

You need to have minimum of 8L on existing HDFC card. They’ll issue as first year free and second year onwards 10K+GST applies, if your spending is not more then 8L in previous anniversary year.

Keep your balance high and credit usage moderate but often. You will not only get more auto increases to limit, but will get better card offers too. My current card limit is now 25 lacs, and was more than doubled from 14 lacs to 25 lacs this month. I am expecting Infinia upgrade shortly, though bank hasn’t intimated it.

One another thing to focus is to get/remain on Imperia banking (or at least preferred), then you will have a better offers.

Just a few tips for anyone looking to upgrade cards with HDFC.
