Should you transfer?
Cathay Pacific operates flights from Hong Kong to multiple Indian cities, including BLR, MAA, BOM, and DEL, with “excellent” award seat availability on its own flights.
I flew Cathay’s Business Class last year on the BLR-HKG and HKG-MAA routes, and it was absolutely worth redeeming miles for the trip to Hong Kong.
The experience is particularly rewarding on routes flying the Airbus A350, such as the Bangalore sector, which offers a modern and comfortable flying experience.
Cathay requires 23K miles for economy & 32K in business oneway (~7K INR in taxes). Note that in economy, roundtrip maybe cheaper like 35K instead of 46K miles.
And if you’re flexible with dates, you may as well fly aspirational products like Cathay First Class to USA from HongKong for 125K miles, which is quite good.

That aside, you may also fly on Oneworld partners like British Airways or SriLankan Airlines but I rarely find a necessity for that as there are other options.
Bottomline
The 10% Bonus Miles offer with Cathay Pacific is indeed a decent offer especially when you’re up for big redemptions, otherwise it doesn’t make sense to park the miles with any airline.
So if you intend to redeem at-least 50K miles or more, it’s good to make use of the opportunity.
Not to mention that Cathay follows soft expiry, like Accor, so any earn/redeem activity including points transfer would extend the miles by 18 months. Hence, unless Cathay devalues the program, the miles are quite safe for sometime.
I am planning to use Asia Miles to book round trip economy tickets to Japan from Hyd/Blr this September for 2 Pax. It is going to cost me about 80,000 miles (160,000 Amex MR points) + INR 40,000 Rs. I am having second thoughts as the round trip economy fares fall about INR 1 Lakh. Should I use my points, or buy tickets directly?
Going with revenue rate is better in this case.
