Flipkart Launches a co-branded credit card with AxisBank

By | August 8, 2019

After Amazon, Paytm & Ola Cabs, here comes another co-branded credit card in the market from Flipkart on Mastercard platform, to be issued by Axisbank. While Flipkart already has Axis Buzz credit card, which is basically a Flipkart credit card, it never got that popular.

So it looks like Flipkart decided to come up with another variant with features in line with the new trend in industry for entry-level cards: Flat cashback %

  • Joining/Annual Fee: Rs.500 (annual fee waived on 2L spend)
  • Welcome benefits: Rs.500 Flipkart Voucher & more
During Launch of Flipkart Credit Card (Image: Moneycontrol)

Benefits at Glance

  • 5% Cashback on Flipkart, Myntra, and 2GUD spends
  • 4% Cashback on MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Uber, PVR, Curefit, and UrbanClap spends
  • 1.5% Unlimited Cashback elsewhere
  • Domestic Airport Lounge Access: 4/Yr

While these are the details known so far, I’ll keep you updated when I get to know more.

So just like all other co-branded credit cards that were recently launched, this too is an entry-level credit card with a light mix of premium credit card benefits, as it also gives you domestic airport lounge access which is Mastercard’s USP.

How to Apply?

The bank is planning to allow only select users to apply for now but we can expect it to be open for all in coming weeks.

Multiple Cards: Axisbank can “technically” issue upto 4 credit cards per head, but again, based on profile this number may vary. So, if you’ve one of the Vistara co-branded credit cards, getting flipkart credit card shouldn’t be a problem.

Bottomline

Overall its a decent card and infact Flipkart’s credit card wins over the rest with its lounge access benefit, but again comes with Rs.500 joining fee, which is OKAY as you anyway get the equivalent Flipkart voucher as welcome benefit.

So its good to see some rewarding credit cards from Axisbank too, which is known for their history of poorly rewarding cards, except those with Vistara.

What’s your take on the new Flipkart credit card by Axisbank? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Looks a good card and a rival for amazon pay card. But amazon pay i think wins in terms of payment made to partners and bill paymet where one gets 2%….T
his cards 4% cashback on mmt,UC,Uber etc are very attractive for an entry level card…

1.5% default cashback is gud enuf for entry level card.

On SBI Elite card, you get 1.75% Cashback only when u spend 10 Lakhs. When u see the Cumulative Cashback potential of this card, it beats SBI Elite Hands down. Also this is much better than all other wallet cards. This offers a flat 1.5% cashback which is much better than Amazon Pay which offers only 1% Cashback elsewhere. Also this offers Free Lounge access. U can always have the Annual fee waived by spending 2 lakhs easily.

The 4% on MMT handsomely beats the ICICI MMT card. The card will be revised shortly. 4% on Uber and CureFit and the 1.5% generic cashback makes it a very lucrative daily driver card. I suspect this will be revised very very soon once the user base is pulled in.

Have to see how flipkart proceeds with the card acquisition. It was very smooth in case of Amazon Pay since everything was online and Pre-approved. If that is also the case with Flipkart, then this card will be a superhit.

Default reward rate of 1.5% is way more than Regalia and many other bank’s premium cards. It’s a really big advantage . I would love to get hands on.

The card is now live on axis bank website and is open to everyone for application. Looking at the T&Cs, ICICI Amazon Pay card seems to be a better proposition. No cashback for wallet loading, fuel spends, purchase of gold items, EMI transactions and purchase of gift cards 🙁

      Hi,
You can have both cards, Amazon ICICI and Flipkart Axis. Use Amazon ICICI for purchases at Amazon website, Wallet recharge and Fuel spends. There is no cashback on EMI transaction on Amazon ICICI card.
Flipkart Axis you can get 1.5% plus if you pay your life insurance policy of LIC, you don’t have to pay additional charges.

Today morning I have noticed a banner on Flipkart Android & ios app to register for this card. It says “Launching Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card. Get Flat 5% Cashback* | No Upper Limit. Register Now”.
The next step asks name, email, phone number and a ‘Notify Me’ buttom.
After this step there is a message Like “Success Thank you for showing your interest in Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED SOON!!”.
    After registration the banner disappeared.
Anybody else registered? is This option available to all users?

All this really brings up the question – How many cards is it ok for a person hold? I spend around 7-8 lakhs per annum on credit cards.
    I hold the following already:
    1. Citi Rewards (from 2010) (Limit ~1L)
    2. HDFC Regalia (from 2013) (Limit ~6.5L)
    3. SBI Prime (from Jan 2019) (Limit ~1.7L)
    4. Amazon Pay ICICI CC (from July 2019) (Limit ~5L)

I can say hold as many card as you can manage ‘sanely’.. after a point u began to notice that you are not able fulfill the min. spends needed for fee waiver that’s when you need to take a pause and re-strategize.. with LTF this becomes simple.. or i can say that if u can justify the annual fee with benefits hold the card else think again..

Increased to 999 coins now! The value of one coin is therefore flat INR 1. Used to be much more earlier. However, if you can accumulate 2,500 coins, which isn’t easy for an average spender, you can opt for a voucher worth 5K. Matter of time till this is also devalued.

          Hi Conscience,
I found out about this. Your credit history will be retained. It won’t be seen as a new credit card account. The only thing is that the card gets converted to FK Axis CC and this won’t wipe your credit history/age nor your Cibil will be affected in any way. That’s the reason they don’t ask for any documents either, as you already hold an axis Bank CC. And also axis bank doesn’t issue CC based card on card basis. Either they need to hold salary account or need to satisfy ITR requirements for the self employed with a good CIBIL score. It is only for Axis Bank CC holders has the option without the above mentioned criteria.

I tried to pay using this card on LIC site but surprisingly Convenience Fee & GST were added, even though this is an Axis Bank Credit card.
This convenience fee was zero on trying through Neo CC. Only difference is that this card is co-branded with Flipkart. I believed convenience fee should be zero for all axis credit cards irrespective if the CC is co-branded or not.

Has anyone faced this issue? or Anyone with some other Axis co-branded card faced this issue?

Apart from SBI Prime SI, any other way to pay LIC with some cashbacks/rewards?

Raised complain with Axis Bank, LIC and Billdesk. Finally was able to get convenience fee issue resolved with help of billdesk support.

CRED is also having issue with this card payment. Verification of the card done by CRED is failing. Looks like, Axis expects IFSC code to be UTIB0000400 for any credit to Flipkart Axis credit card and CRED may be using some other IFSC code which is common across other Axis Credit Cards.

Can you please check and let me know. I am thinking of getting this card for LIC payments and Flipkart purchases. Thanks.

        Hi Alex.

I have raised the issue with LIC, Billdesk, Flipkart and Axis. After following up for last 15 days, the issue has now been resolved. You can now use this card in LIC site, Billsedk payment gateway, to pay LIC premiums without incurring any additional convenience fee and GST.

With Paytm, they may charge upfront convenience fee + GST and later on if refund doesn’t come in your Paytm Wallet, then you will have to follow up. So best is to use the card directly at LIC site.

Also for online spends, i found SBI simply click is better. 5x rewards points( total 5 points per 100) which is valued 1.25 per 100 so 1.25% Also spending 1L+1L per year will give you 4k worth of Cleartrip voucher. which translates to 3.25% of travel vouchers. which is better that most of online spend cards i have seen.
So, to cover my offline spends, i think this card will be better as this is the only one which gives that .5% compared to 1% on other cards.

Cashback is a statement credit. And after every successful transaction that is eligible for a CB, you will receive an SMS from axis bank saying that you will receive 1.5%/4/5% based on where the transaction is made. I also tested it by paying it for Gold and I did not receive any cashback nor message.

And coming to NFC, it works like a charm but in app it shows that this card doesn’t work with NFC.

There is a big catch on 1.5 percent cash back. I have received my first statement, They are rounding off the cash back to nearest floor. for example on 235 Rs transaction you get only 3 rupees cash back and on 117 Rs transaction they are giving only 1 rupee. For below hundred you don’t get cash back at all.

Axis bank does follow integer system same as SBI or HDFC for their other cards so there won’t be any doubt that they do that here too despite mentioning product feature as 1.5% flat cashback.

Axis bank is very poor in processing applications. I have applied via their website on 8th August, documents are collected on 20th August, and till date, 20 days later, there is no update from them whatsoever (even their call center has no idea). Just Pathetic and Sad. I hold 3 credit cards already with 800+ CIBIL score.
Axis Flipkart is so opposite to ICICI AP!

On 13th Sept (23 days after submitting documents), after numerous follow-ups, Axis Bank Branch who collected documents has updated me that they have lost the same. Though they told this to me with an apology, it shows the real sad state of affairs in this bank. Submitted again the same day – no updates so far.

Just got both sms & email regarding automatic upgrade of my existing Axis bank Buzz card to Flipkart Axis credit card and physical card will be sent to my bank registered address within 30days from the date of email. Existing card will be still working up to 45 days after activation of new card and then, it would be phased out after 45 days.

      No limit on cashback…
After each transaction you will receive message informing percentage of cashback you are going to get..
and for Flipkart pay later payment you will get 1.5% instead of 5%.Only direct purchase and payment through this card on Flipkart will entitle you to get 5% cashback…

Finally I have received the credit card.
The application and approval process was very long and frustrating.
I have applied July last week via Axis bank website, got a call same day from Axis bank customer care. The told me that I am eligible for the card and a local agent will visit my office address to collect the documents. After two days a local agent called me and told me that an Axis bank account is necessary for application to process as of now. Since I didn’t have an account, she requested to contact her after opening a bank account.
So I opened a savings account , put 3L+ balance in it and called the agent. She didn’t bother to pickup the call or answer to my messages. Then I have filed a complaint with their customer care and they called me on 10th August and booked an appointment for 12 noon 14th August. That day I got a call from their Ernakulam head office asking my salary proof through whatsapp and she told me that she will arrange a local agent from Calicut. But nobody called or showed up. I have contacted customer care once again and an agent visited my office on 24th August with a tablet and took copies of Aadhar card and PAN card, since my salary is credited in ICICI account he took bank statement for 3 months too.
On 27th August they completed tele verification and next day I got an SMS saying “Congratulations welcome to Axis bank credit cards Your Application for Axis bank credit card is approved. The Card details will follow shortly.” But no card details or no credit limit info provided. The application tracking through their website was returning with a blank entry. on 3rd September I got an SMS saying “Your Credit card has been approved and credit card will reach you shortly”. The same day the card details appeared on Axis mobile App. The credit limit was 50K (1/3 of my current SBI, HDFC Credit cards). Very disappointed. I have applied with a take home salary of 40K. Finally I have received the physical card yesterday (9th Sept).
I have done a Flipkart Pay Later payment of 5164 immediately and got message saying “You are eligible for 1.5% cash back on your last transaction with flipkart.” So No 5% cash back for Flipkart Pay Later Payments guys. Highly disappointed. I have gone through this frustrating application experience only because I shop heavily (3-4L per year) on flipkart. Never experienced this kind of service from my previous credit cards ICICI,SBI,HDFC. I think the local agents does’t care much about this credit card. At least for Calicut, Kerala. Love to hear other card expert member’s experience.

The 4 percent cashback at the preferred merchants have restrictions that there should not be used of any PROMO CODES at the merchant website which many times makes this 4 percent very less than the discount due to PROMO CODES.

The above information is based on statements given in Terms and Conditions.

Someone who have actually used the card at Preferred Merchant with PROMO CODES/ without PROMO CODES please confirm.

I can confirm this. No message for 4% cashback on Uber since there was a promo going on.

Any one having problem with Axis Mobile app? Manage Usage option in the credit card’s Total Control section is not working. Earlier i’ve disabled Online transaction using Manage Usage option as security measure. In general with other credit cards, i usually enable Online transaction only when i’m about to do some online payment and after completing online payment, i again disable the online transaction rights for that credit card. I wanted to follow the same process for axis card as well, so went ahead and disabled the online transactions. Now from past two days i’m trying to enable online rights as i wanted to buy some things from flipkart. But Manage Usage option was not at all working and axis support is useless. They keep on holding for 20 mins and disconnects the call.

Can anyone check in your axis mobile app, whether Manage usage option is working?

    1. Vijay

Yes, manage usage/Total Controls is a total useless feature and doesn’t work at all. It’s all hype and no show thing. I complained many times but no use. Earlier it used to work properly for my MyZone Visa card. But a lot of issues with FP Axis Card.

If you want to keep your card safe. Call customer care and bar international usage. Option 2: Under Manage Usage temporarily block online usage.

I blocked International Usage and made a transaction on Amazon.com and it happened. But when I blocked online txn/CNP then it didn’t work on the same Amazon.com website. SBI Simply Click is much better. If you deactivate international transaction it won’t go through.

Axis Bank needs to step and fix Total Controls issues. Very important for security.

Is it 1.5% cashback meaning cash against outstanding in statement?
Also is wallets, insurance, utility included or excluded for 1.5% cashback?
    Thanks

1.5 percent cashback will be adjusted in your next month’s statement.

It’s for all merchants. Even though it says Wallet loading is not considered for cashback, many times i loaded Mobikwik wallet by using this card and i got the message that my transaction is eligible for 1.5 percent cashback. It’s even true for Paytm. Once i get my next month’s statement then i can confirm the same.

    Hi,
Does anyone get cashback on bill statement of axis flipkart cc?
As i purchased first time on myntra for 15% cashback but it is showing only 1.5% in statement.

    Reply
    1. Mohammed Shoyaib

Did you use any promo codes in Myntra ? If yes then it may not be eligible for 15 percent first/one time cashback.

Even the 4 percent cashback on preferred merchants is not valid of you are using Promo Codes in the merchant website.

I booked bus tickets in Goibibo and used promo code. It didn’t give me 4 percent cashback message.

I am very glad that axis bank included the transaction amount and eligible cash back amount for each transaction in their monthly statement. Last month I am able to achieve Rs 5,272 as cash back. Thanks to the big billion days my savings from the card is 20K+ using this card and an Axis debit card (5,272 cash back + around 16K instant discount)

In my credit card statement, I noticed that Axis Bank is not exactly giving 1.5% cashback. For example, suppose I made a transaction worth 790, so cashback should be 1.5% which is 11.85 but in the statement it is written that cashback earned is only 11 not 11.85. They are not rounding off, they are just truncating all the decimal digits in the cashback amount.

Axis did the same thing for all the transactions i have done till now, and even after I complained, they did the same thing in my next month’s statement as well.

If they do like this with all the customers, imagine the amount they must be fraudulently saving.

Can you guys share if Axis is doing the same thing in your statements as well?

    Reply
    1. Habeeb

Yes its the same for my statement too. There are no decimal values in cash back amounts.

    2. DareDevil

Yes, it is happening with me too. I have complained but still no response. This is a big fraud, as for amounts less than 100, you get nothing. For 100 you will get 1Rs cashback. All in all, losing a lot. It is actually a 0 to 1% cashback card. 🙁

    Hi Siddharth,
I have an Axis Bank Lifestyle Signature credit card which is LTF. Recently, i received an email from the bank regarding FLIPKART AXIS BANK Credit Card with Zero Joining fees. My question is, if I apply for this card, would it replace my existing Signature credit card? Or it will be an additional credit card with the common credit limit? Any idea!!

For anyone who would like to have the Ace credit card and already has the Axis Flipkart Card, call the customer care number 18604195555. The CCE will call it an upgrade but you should have the card issued in addition to your existing Flipkart card. The only catch is that you need to have your Flipkart card for more than 3 months.

In the latest terms and conditions on website it’s mentioned as 2 % for all other spends but in the examples stated it’s mentioned 1.5% . Has the CB been increased for other spends or it’s a typing error. Can anyone check and info?
Ps: it’s the same updated terms where it’s mentioned no CB for rental payments from 15th march 2022

It’s 1.5%. Wonder how they make such glaring mistakes when it’s the full time job of their rewards and communications team.
They also mention cashback exclusion in case if GCs bought on flipk, myntra and 2gud. Which means you can get cashback on GCs bought on other platforms like amazon.
