CRED App Review – Now Get Rewarded for Paying Credit Card Bills

By | March 7, 2019

Kunal Shah – the founder of Freecharge which was acquired by Snapdeal in 2015 for $400 million is now back with a new bet in the world of credit cards. About his new venture CRED, Kunal Shah says its “a platform to celebrate and reward the most creditworthy people of India”.

With a team of about ~60 people based out of Bengaluru, Cred has already raised $30 million from Sequoia Capital, Chinese VC firm Morningside and others. Now lets see what it has to offer us,

CRED – Get Rewarded for Paying Credit Card Bills

What is CRED?

CRED is an app that allows you to earn “CRED coins” for paying your credit card bills. These points can then be redeemed for various premium lifestyle products & services.

Apart from this primary benefit, it also has options to track your expenses, notify due dates, etc.

CRED aims to reward the most creditworthy (Credit score > 750) people of India thereby creating a community of trustworthy customers. CRED pulls your Experian/Crif score at the moment, while CIBIL score may show up in future.

How it works?

It’s very simple and the entire process hardly takes less than a minute.

  1. Install the app – IOS / Android (open the link on mobile)
  2. Signup with your mobile number & verify with OTP
  3. Boom!! All your cards now gets displayed. CRED has done the integration with Credit Bureaus like Experian to make this is possible.
  4. Now you have to verify your card to add them to the app by filling the masked numbers of the card.
  5. CRED verifies your card instantly and that’s it.
  6. You shall now pay your bills and get reward points equal to the bill amount paid.

In the backend, while you’re adding a new card, CRED verifies your credit card by depositing Rs.1 through IMPS/UPI. This reflects instantly on some cards while other cards (like AMEX) take upto ~1 working day.

Is CRED App Safe?

Here are few things you might need to know reg. the CRED app safety,

Security:  As the founder of CRED App had prior experience in handling millions of users on Freecharge, its safe to assume that the app is completely secure.

Privacy: The app has an option to allow email access for reading your statements. If you feel this is a privacy issue as you’ll have other personal emails, consider using a separate email ac for linking with Cred. Or, if you can go through your statements line by line, you may ignore the feature.

Payments: Its safe to make bill payments at-least 1 week ahead as you can’t be sure what’s coming tomorrow. Just incase if it gets delayed more than 3 biz days, get in touch with CRED. Apart from that, never worry about the money, its always safe.

My Experience

Getting Started

The UI/UX of the app is one of the best that i’ve seen recently. As soon as i installed the app & verified my mobile number, i got 822 Points which is equal to my Experian credit score. Yes, you can get your credit score too with this app.

It takes moments to get familiar with the options and i was able to add one of my credit card and make a payment to it in under 2 minutes. Here are the time frames for your payment to reflect on the Credit Card, from my experience,

  • Instant: HDFC/ICICI/AXIS/SBI (payments processed via IMPS/UPI)
  • 2 Working Days: Amex
  • 1 Working Day: SC/Indusind
  • Payments >1L will be be routed via NEFT
  • When IMPS/UPI rails are down, it will be processed via NEFT.
  • Note: Always clear dues before ~3 days to be on safer side

Overall the on-boarding experience is very good and you would love using the app just for its neat & clean User Interface. As i’m yet to pay some of the credit card bills (Diwali purchases), this came in right time. Here’s a quick look into my ac:

CRED App

Points Redemption

  • Point Value: Dynamic

The most important factor whenever we deal with points is its value. Here its totally dynamic as it depends on what offer the merchants can afford to give. Premium merchants have rolled out exclusive offers for CRED members to generate brand trials and virality amongst these customers..

I tried many redemption options including “kill the bill” which is similar to scratch cards that you see on Google Pay. It got me around ~Rs.170 which is not bad. Its like playing games, try your luck and do share what you got. Here’s my first attempt 🙂

Apart from that, one of my best redemption was 5000 points for Rs.1000 Voucher from bombayshavingcompany.com. This gives amazing 20% value. I quickly ordered few items costing Rs.980 to make effective use of the voucher. It asks to pay Rs.88 (tax) to complete the order.

That’s huge returns. Now if that sounds unbelievable, You may pinch yourself to verify that you’re not dreaming. lol. Here’s a quick look into my earnings & redemptions so far!

Cred Coin – Earnings

Cred Coin – Redemptions

CRED – Voucher Redemption

Some of the merchants available for redemption at the moment are: ixigo, bookmyshow, cult.fit, bombayshavingcompany, bombayshirtcompany, bodycraft, four fountains spa, etc. Note that some of the vouchers can be redeemed only once while others can be redeemed multiple times as well.

Top 10 CRED Rewards

While there are lot of good redemption options appear on CRED, I made a list of top 10 redemptions recently that are wonderfully rewarding for the month of Feb-March 2019. Check out: Top 10 CRED Rewards

Why CRED is a must have App?

The top 3 features for using the CRED app are:

  1. You get rewards for paying credit card bills through CRED platform
  2. If you pay with a debit card, you get additional Reward points there too.
  3. You become part of a premium community that gives access to unique products/services.

And yes, apart from that, some may find their transaction tracking features quite useful too. Cred is currently in the beta phase, yet you can experience most of the features now before it even goes live by year end. Use below links to download the app.

Bottomline

Even though we’ve apps (like Paytm) to pay credit card bills, there has been limits to it in various aspects and almost none of them gave a premium feel nor rewards.

CRED solves it all with a refreshing look, simple & easy to use interface, rewards system and on top of it – a premium community which is an added advantage to get access to some cool redemption options just as above.

  • Cardexpert App Rating: 5/5 [yasr_overall_rating]

I redeemed the 1K bombay shaving company voucher as well 🙂 . I hope they add more reward options. Kill the bill gave me 15/- and 11/- so not that much.

Why do you want to trust the app blindly, just to be on the safer side, you should have atleast made the minimum due payment on or before the due date not via cred, remaining payment you could have made using the app, that way you would have avoided the late fee penalty

Earned close to around 700 Rs. through scratch cards by paying two bills worth 1.1L and 65K on my Amex card, still waiting for payment to reflect on my card account after 1 day, Im hopeful this will work. I paid the payment using debit card, fingers crossed if I get those points too. Other than that, still can’t figure out from their privacy policy what are they doing really with this data.

Rs.700 is great! Yes, it should show up in a day. Worst case, you’ll get the funds refunded.

For us, its all about reward points. For them, i believe they’re creating a community of people with higher credit scores. So they can allow premium brands to gives us trials, sort of!

In long run they may come up with new offerings, like their own credit card. Who knows!

You can’t convert into Rupees. You can try your luck with #killthebill in which if you burn some 30K coins, if you get lucky you may get some 300, 400 rupees.

If you want more value, use it for vouchers redemption in their app.

Lightning fast posting of this review. Yesterday launched n today Reviewed !!!
I also joined Cred on launch day.

Pros: 1. UI is damn good/ easy
    2. Pay your CC bill by Debit card also ( I did the same yesterday)
    3. Good coin redemption options
    4. Add upto 10 CCs
    5. Can add spouse CCs also till the time she installs Cred n joins
    6. No need to wait for credit of payments. Gets reflected within minutes
    7. Doesn’t ask for cvv or valid thru dates

Cons: 1. They ask for your email access too, which somebody may not be comfortable sharing

Have collected 35K cred coins. But my personal redemption choice is 5000 inr ixigo promo code on burning 2lacs coins ( valid for 93 more days). I hope they don’t preclose this offer.

    Hello Sid,
    1. Can i pay any Credit Card bill with Debit Card via Cred app?
    2. If first is yes then can i pay my Amex CC bill with HDFC debit card via CRED App?
    3. If second is yes then can i get 1% cashback to my HDFC Debit Card as HDFC Debit Card offers 1% cashback on spends with some HDFC Debit Cards, I mean does paying Credit Card bill payment considered valid merchant code for 1% cashback?

    Reply
      1. Sharathkumar Anbu

HDFC Platinum debit card doesn’t give 1% cashback blindly on all spends. There are restrictions.

Effective 15th May’17 you will get 1 CashBack point on every Rs. 100 spent on Telecom, Utilities.

1 CashBack point on every Rs. 200 spent on Groceries & Supermarket, Restaurant & Apparels, Entertainment

Maximum cap of Rs. 750 per card per month

No cashback points for all other categories apart from the ones above.

So IMO, No cashback points will be provided for this since these are just payment apps. You could try paying 1000 rupees and check your reward points in 2 or 3 days

I just paid RBL credit card bill using HDFC Jet Debit card. Will update on miles part

          3. Anshul

I think I am getting points credited on my indusind signature exclusive debit card. Also for transaction size above 40k, it gives 6 points per 200 rs spent, which is around 1% reward rate (if you redeem amazon/flipkart gv from indusmoments), so a pretty sweet deal must say 🙂

          4. Vijit

Can confirm that Jet miles are credited for payments made through the Cred app

          5. Tanveer Sure

I am using JP MILES HDFC debit card to pay my bill via CRED but I am not getting JP miles credited in my account.

    1. Atul

I paid using YES FIRST World Debit Card and I can confirm that I got points based on their usual criteria (which isn’t great) but this is something which I wasn’t getting earlier while paying CC bills so I will take it.

Now, now! The Experian score checked by me was 780 while the one displayed by CRED App was 852! What’s going on? Is the “exclusivity” stamp just an eyewash? Also, the email access to read “only credit card statements” is like knowingly opening Pandora’s box of troubles and compromising your financial and personal life! Just my two cents.

    Reply
    1. Datta1108

Yes, I agree! It’s trap, its complete lie, they don’t need access to email to credit card statements, they are pulling this information from the credit card.
Initially, I gave access than then read their privacy statements, but later reverted the access.
Basically giving email access to them, they can easily read gmail emails, So your Privacy is at stake!
      Food for thought!

      1. Prashant Gupta

I also had the same thought. When they can pull out all cards through mobile number then why they need email access. As of now i have given access.

If you click manage card one can see segregated expenses for travel, utility, food etc… wonder they will sell this pattern and we will get offers from tele marketers regarding these. This is the only way they can make money i guess. These days data is everything.
One can see how crownit has also changed its model to surveys, uploading pics of detergents, soaps, etc you use.

Till now I was aware of the CIBIL credit rating agency, just learned abt Experian/Crif. Looks like Experian score is equivalent CIBIL as both my scores are almost the same. Crif score, on the other hand, is way lower, not sure why!
I have around CC payment to do, you mentioned its better to pay from Debit Card for additional benefits? What are those?

    Reply
    1. Nihar

There are 3 major consumer credit rating agencies – Experian, CIBIL and CRIF along with Equifax. They all have different algorithms although broadly based on same credit parameters but with different weightage. And scores are in the order of Exp>CIBIL>CRIF ; but these scores should not be compared against one another. Only CIBIL can be compared with another CIBIL and likewise.

Now is a very good time to review the best debit card for 2018 and beyond. What cards are you folks using? I’ve a SBI Signature Debit card with no annual fee and 0.75% reward rate.

    Reply
      1. Ashwin

The value of the points is cash equivalent, that is, Rs 0.25 per point. I can choose to redeem pre paid cash gift card, redeem by points at POS at Max, Lifestyle, Reliance Trends, etc. I can also choose to do mobile or D2H recharge, book cinema ticket, flight, bus etc. I gift a annual “free” shopping trip to my wife at Reliance Trends/Max/Lifestyle. With CRED, I think it will become a bi-annual shopping trip!

The good thing is I get this card without paying any annual fee and without any requirement for savings balance. But Rs 25 Lakh NRV (demat, MF, life insurance, home loan or salary over 2 Lakh/month) is required.

I see that Axis Priority Debit card is the best but they require an savings account balance of 2 Lakh and also we don’t know when they will stop giving the 10% cashback offer. SBI Signature debit card has no reward rate limitations and 0.75% is normal reward rate and not special limited period offer.

I would request Sid to do a review of Debit Cards too.

Yes please review best debit card based on reawards. How come the reward rate of SBI Signature Card is 0.75. It gives 10 rewards for every 200 spend and each reawards value 0.25. So return rate is 1.25%. And after three transaction it gives 2x rewards. So you will get 20 reawrds points and return rate will go 2.5 % post three transaction of month.

My Experian score is 707 and my CIBIL score is 777. I got a message saying you are wait listed. So definitely they didn’t consider the CIBIL score. It is good that i got a credit card for wife couple of years back, we use it once in a while and her credit score is 822. Happily using it with her account.
Paying with debit card seems to take a while (2-3 days or more) to reflect to the credit card. Any idea on when it usually reflects?

NOTE: Be sure to pay the CC bill’s 2-3 days prior to the billing date otherwise there can be issues. My payment for Diners Clubmiles has gotten stuck since yesterday and today is the bill date and now the dam HDFC netbanking is also down.

Where as my AXIS Select bill was Credited within an hour yesterday itself. So this might be growing pains but certainly instant accreditation even with HDFC/ICICI/Etc maybe patchy in the initial days. As for the late fee charges I might get charged talking to HDFC customer care with a preferred status always gets them waved off.

It would be interesting to see how dynamic they are with regards to this Credit Score part , as it is based on historical creditworthiness ; anybody with 800 score on Experian can also default in future . What CRED needs to do is periodically check for the scores of registered users / wait-listed users and be dynamic .

      Hi Abhi,
There are people who dont want to buy credit cards at all and then there are some people who want to enjoy the benefits of using a cc. Same product different people different perspectives.

A credit card number without exp date and CVV is not harmful and moreover even if the card number getting misused you can raise a complaint with the CC company and they would reverse the transaction as all the CC transactions are usually approved and posted on the card in t+2 days.

If we are getting the rewards at a rate which is more than 5%, i think it is worth the risk.

If you think that CC company would not be responsive to your complaint.. get an AMEX and then use it here:)

Credit card number without expiry date and OTP/secure password are useless to them, nobody can misuse the card. Even if they do, as mentioned in the previous response you can raise a dispute with bank and get them to reverse the charges. I was amazed to see your last line. You have never used credit card offers on Amazone? By postpaid, I believe you mean use COD always. I would say you are being overcautious here. The only app I can find on the Play store is JetAirway which does have a Jet Privilege section but it does not show anything till now “been 20 days after transactions”. Do guide as to where to see/download the app.

I don’t think there’s any jetprivilege app. Can you share some more details of what you’re talking about?

Sorry for mistake. I was actually talking about Jet Airways app. On selecting jet privilege option under app, further select activity details. On this page I see the miles posted on 02.12.18 for cc payment done on 27.11.18. My debit card is Jet Mastercard variant. Thats pretty fast.

Nope. The payment made on 9th December, I’m seeing today on 19th December (don’t know when they posted it) with value date 14th December.

    Hi Sid

I suggest you use DCB debit card (No, not dinner debit card). But if I’ve seen a debit card worth using here. It’s this.

It’s from DCB Bank (or Development Credit Bank) and I suggest you take the family account. Rs. 1 lac min. balance to be maintained accross upto 5 savings account.

    What you get
1.6% cashback on debit card spends up to 2,000 pm. Max 20k annually. This means 20k x 5 accounts = 1L annually just for using a debit card. If you don’t want family accounts you can get the same benefit (20k) at 50k min. balance as well (elite account).

Sid, I believe they have branches in Salem as well. Do check it and let me know what you think.

Though it is supposed to be instant with HDFC/ICICI/AXIS/SBI, I see that it can take upto 2 working days (sat/sun is excluded) for payment to be credited and reflected in your account even for my ICICI and SBI card. I would suggest you to pay 3 days in advance for ICICI or pay directly using ICICI debit card.

      Reply
    3. Amex Guy

I don’t see how can it possibly be instant if you’re paying with a debit card, unless CRED gives you a short term loan. When you pay with debit card, it can take upto 7 days (usually 2-4) for CRED to get your money, they can then IMPS.

I’m fairly certain for instant transfer you need to use net banking.

Yes, CRED uses its funds from escrow to credit the user ac instantly. They actually get funds in ~3 days, even for net-banking payments.

Wish they added new rewards which we can actually use. Not the current list of unusable vouchers.

Urban ladder, Airbnb, UberEats, Freshmenu, Myntra, Stylecracker, Caratlane, Bombay shirt company, Flyrobe etc.

CRED Customer care has gone very bad now. Now there is no live chat and only email support. I raised a ticket on December 28, 2018 and I haven’t got any reply yet.

I am just afraid to make bill payments going forward in this app. What if the payment is not credited and no body is responding to customer tickets like this? Last time when I had payment issue, Someone from CRED team was following up with me via Call and keeping me posted and I really liked such customer service.

And now, it’s completely opposite. Getting poor day by day. Don’t know where it gonna end.

The “Delay” is the bigger problem for many of the people. I generally clear the dues at least 5 days before the due date but the problem is the frustration we get when no body responds to the tickets raised and no response even after a week.

That’s a very bad customer service IMHO

For me it’s credit on third day, so issue is solved for payments done till now. For the raised support ticket got kind of template message, after 5 days saying revert to us if still issue persist. In order to avoid late payment charges, I have decided to make payment 4-5 days before due date if using CRED app, so that some kind of assurance will be there on receiving card payment before due date.

Yes, their just ~1.5 month old and maybe usage volume of CRED app might be beyond their expectation, so internal technical issues due to huge volume bond to happen. But they can improve their support team in giving proper tentative dates by when they’ll come with resolution.

          2. Siddharth Post author

I checked with CRED on this. They’re equipped well to handle high volume, but i was said this issue was related to payment gateway.

I asked the customer care, they said that the transactions are marked as not eligible. Cred is totally different from MobiKwik. Mobikwik and phonepe are wallets where as cred is a card payment app. U get points from payment which can be used to get vouchers. MobiKwik is the worst wallet of all and phonepe does not allow to load momey through credit card again a useless wallet. Paytm is the market leader and best and now they have started postpaid again and market first and killing feature. U can use it as a credit to make payments and clear dues later.

I too purchased this in Crd by redeeming points. And it is saying “Activated” in Cred. But I already have a 3 month membership of which 2 months are still left. So in my Swiggy account there is no reflection of it. The TnC in Cred says if you have existing membership, then you will be able to purchase a 1 year membership by paying Rs 1. But now I have to wait for 2 months to see what I purchased now is actually Activated for me. Lets hope it works fine after 2 months

It worked well. I also had purchased Swiggy Super 2 months back and was not able to see any option at that time. Noticed today that my previous membership is due to expire in 5 days, and one year membership was showing only for Rs. 1 (998 discount auto applied).

        Totally worth it.

The debit card points depend on offers as applicable on the debit card.

Say for example, some cards give reward points only on specific merchant type – say departmental stores. And for same, they identify by MCC and decide points.

Currently, very few Debit Card offer good reward points. Few to name are (as from comments in this post):
DCB Bank, Axis Priority, HDFC Jet Privilege, IndusInd Exclusive, SBI Gold

Not sure this app is safe for using netbanking credentials. It saves/notes the userid and password while paying through iphone. It uses payu as their payment gateway but uses a lesser known “juspay” for hassle free payment experience.

I didn’t get any reward points for “RAZ/CRED*404”, I remember getting reward points for PaymentsPayu. I think they might have registered themselves with all banks to remove the MDR rate since they are payment app.

They can’t bear the MDR on Debit cards which is usually around 1%, hence they would have negotiated with banks to make it 0% and stop the rewards like government payments.

        Thoughts?

Are you sure about it? Did you wait for few more days to check the reward points status, because sometime due to holidays, Reward point posting may be delayed.

@ Gagan – That post was in response to Sharathkumar Anbu’s January 9 post where he received points for the said merchant. We really can’t go merchant code hunting now to ascertain which payment protocol CRED would be following for its payments!

    Reply
    1. Gagan

@Shivi Ah, ok, was not clear from post. Indeed we can’t go MCC hunting and anyways that is not in our hand – it keeps on changing. I have seen CRED, Dreamplug, PayU, PaymentsPayU etc etc on consecutive payments.

But the point is to see if we really get Reward Points and on which cards.

I didn’t get reward points in IndusInd when the statement said “RAZ*CRED, 404, U POS DEBIT”. I raised a ticket to check on it.

They called and told me that those transactions are not eligible for reward points. They kept saying that this payment gateway is not eligible for reward points like that. Only exclusion in IndusInd was for government payments and mutual funds but the lady who talked kept saying the payment gate way is not eligible.

I asked it is not written in the website and how do you make such claim, She repeated the same and not ready to listen whatever kind of doubts we ask.

I am getting confused how payment gateways matter. If the say Merchant code or something, It will make some sense atleast.

Same thing happened with me Anbu; the latest payment round to CRED via RazorPay is not eligible for IndusInd Exclusive RP. And there is no way of finding out which payment gateway will be used when you make payment to CRED. I’ll shift to DCB Debit card next month onwards.

Yes. Check on SBI Rewardz site and see how many points corresponding to the amount spent. There are a few other variables also for using the card more number of times/ crossing certain threshold of transactions/ money spent.

I did not get points on CiTi Gold debit card. The points I received in the month of January (and mentioned by me earlier) were accrued for the month of December ~ Christmas time promotional offer. So, CiTi is out in the CRED run.

            @ Yogender,
You will get points for SBI Wealth Debit Card. However it will be posted after a month only. You also will get quarterly bonus points. 5 points for Rs 200 normal and 1 point (or is it 2 points) as bonus. So about 6/7 points for every Rs 200. There is no cap on points.

    2. Venkat

Haven’t got any JP miles after the initial 2-3 times in December I guess. Anyone else continues to receive? Worth following up (assuming of course, Jet has a future!)

What can be asked more. Its not that these things are costly buy CRED allows you to explore (at free of cost) before you can do big shopping. I also had a free coffee at Costa, BMS, Swiggy Super etc.. The list is long. I sincerely thank Card Expert blogs to be enable to use resources available to us.

Actually I’m unsure if any bank has stopped giving points targeting CRED per se. If the merchant name is “CRED”, it goes through some different payment processor which doesn’t fetch points. If merchant name is PaymentsPayU then you get points. I got points this month on HDFC Jet just fine. I realized this when I did not get points for one payment made by Citi card last month, and the merchant name is “CRED”. All other Citi payments, including one after the instance has “PaymentsPayU”.

Now what I do is — keep trying until I get right payment processor. Since Citi OTP SMS shows name of merchant, I know beforehand if I’ll get cash or not.

So we get points for doing on Citi Gold Debit card if the merchant is “PaymentsPayU”?

      Reply
      1. Amex Guy

Yes. A whopping 2% cash! Citi makes it very hard to track those, check your statement carefully. I usually send a redemption message for each payment I make (If I make a 50K payment, I’ll try redeeming 1K points), and have received cash for PaymentsPayU without fail.

    2. Puneet Singal

This seems to be nice trick, Amex Guy. Can you tell how many attempts does it generally take for you to get right payment processor? ** MAJOR ISSUE **
Recently my friend referred his father to CRED and added his unused credit card (last used a year back).
After some time, he started to see fraudulent online transactions on the card all at 15-20 mins interval. He immediately blocked the card and raised a dispute.
Now, he just registered the card, did not give any email permissions and yet this breach of security.

Should we be alarmed ? Is CRED secure ?

Auto pay option has been enabled in CRED app. I pay my HSBC, ICICI Rubyx and Yes Bank credit card bills through auto pay. Waiting for the new Axis Bank credit card to be activated for auto pay.

As per CRED app support team, CRED app may need up to 4-months of statements to detect and enable auto-pay.

For me, it took on average two statements.

Setup is simple. In your payment settings, you see an option of auto-pay. You select the option and then you are asked to setup e-NACH for 100K/-. The app redirects to your bank account and then dposits 1/- in the account. Once that is done successfully, it takes 3-4 days to setup the mandate. Once done, you can see the bank cards eligible for auto pay. You can set up full payment or minimum payment and days before the due day you want to make payment, latest being 5-days before due date.

After reading all comments above. The only trustable debit card (which donot change reward structure based upon merchant ) is SBI. We have SBI Platinum with gives approx.. 0.375% return per transaction.
Calculation : 30pts or Rs 7.5/2000 = 0.375%. This card is approx. 350 per year.

If we are above to get SBI Wealth card. It would be whooping 5 time i.e. 1.875% . Is this correct. 1.8% is not a small amount for debit card transaction. Let imagine we pay 5 Lakhs a year. It comes to Rs 9300/- out of nothing.
Any comments. See reward Cred will not sustain in longer phase. I know we are getting these at the moment. But one year down the line they will die down but sustainability will come from Debit cards only.
    Anyother debit card?

      @ Ankush,
Your math is off. You also will get 5 points for Rs 200 normal and 1 point (or is it 2 points) as quarterly bonus. So about 6/7 points for every Rs 200. Each point value is Rs 0.25. So the reward rate is about 0.875% which I feel is still decent since there are no caps and we get other benefits with SBI Wealth Debit card.

Well this make no sense to apply wealth account specially for debit card for 0.875%. The best option is go for DCB 1.6% and may open multiple account. Any catch in DCB elite account.
They give 20k pa as cash back limited to 2000 pm which translates to payment of 12.5 L on debit card spend which is sizeable for single card account.

I didn’t know in detail about the SBI Wealth Debit Card till now! Just spoke to customer card now and got all the details.

    Folks,
I guess SBI Wealth Debit Card is the best card to have at the moment. We get 10 points for every Rs 200 plus monthly bonus of 10 Points if we do more than three transaction in that month. There is no longer Quarterly bonus and only monthly bonus is awarded. So we get 20 points for every Rs 200. Value of one point is Rs 0.25. That is a whopping 2.5% reward rate!

And it gets better. For our birthday month we get 30 points for Rs 200. My birthday month was April and I got this bonus. That is a reward rate of 3.75% which is even higher than HDFC Infinia or SCB Ultimate reward rate! 😀

    Features of this debit card:
    – We get point for any transactions and there is no cap on the number of points we can earn
    – Two free BMS movie tickets per month (no quota and not BOGO; pay transaction charges only)
    – 2 Airport Lounges per quarter
    – 2.5% reward rate/ 3.75% during birthday month
    – other benefits like higher POS limits, free insurance and Visa Signature offers, etc.

      I am changing my comments.
SBI Wealth account makes real value and you are spot on.
      – 2.5% reward on SBI Signature debit cards. Lets say you spend 10L P.A. (incl. credit card bills , insurance and MFs) and you get 25000/- P.A.
      – INR 6000/- PA on movies. This is not 1+1 scheme but 500/- OFF on booking 2 tickets.
      – airport lounge. Although we experienced credexpertians know how to get this free with other cards.
      – No capping on points.
-SBI donot change reward structure easily like other private banks. We have seen this with prime and ellite cards. if they are giving point on CRED app they will continue. No surety just My belief.

I will speak to DBS treasure this weekend & their 10% cash back scheme upto 10000 per Qtr is also good and i have to check whether this is available with 20L TRV or even higher. If AmexGuy reads it he can confirm that part. I am referring to DBS treasure debit visa infinite card. But DBS website says this offer is valid till 30-june.

    Hey Sid,
Thanks for the review. I have one question though. I have 3 credit cards for which I always pay bills on time. I wanted to try CRED but when I looked into the review section of the app, it gave me many doubts. As many people have mentioned that despite paying early, the money doesn’t get credited to their credit card account on time and they ended up paying charges which they shouldn’t have if they paid manually. I was wondering if you have faced similar issues or heard about issues like that.
I’ve also read that their customer service is the worst. No place to call, sending emails gets automated replies and no actual reply from any person. That is why till now I’ve not used it due to these negative press. I would love to know what is your opinion on this matter. Right now I pay my bills via NEFT from my net banking and they always get credited within 2 working days.

The general market rate for a coupon site is 1:1 cut. So if you buy/get a 200 rupees coupon from a site, the site almost always makes 200 as well, sometimes on distribution, sometimes on redemption. That’s just how coupon/loyalty distribution market has been like. CRED plays the same game.

You cannot remove the cards but you can archive it so that it is not visible in the system.

Go to Profile -> Cards -> Near every card icon there will be 3 dots, click on it and click `ARCHIVE`

Today CRED is offering Noise x5 wireless earpods. I have a feeling that in the coming days, there will be some really good rewards that CRED will offer but I suggest all CRED users to only redeem their coins for the rewards that they really want rather than blow it on whatever enticing rewards that are made available. Last time around, I kept burning my coins for the most random rewards and missed out on the Candle-light dinner at the TAJ Yeshwanthpur Bangalore twice. Just my 2 cents.

They are delaying payments a lot nowadays. I made a few payments to my SC CC splitting them in 5K on 4th July however on 5th few were credited and on 6th few. But still more 30k worth payment is pending after 3 working days. The irony is the payment which I made first of those 5K bunch is still pending. There is no way to contact their customer care and their AI Bot is useless.

Looks like CRED is using our money some way may be to park them into overnight liquid funds with 1-day maturity. Other than that I can’t think why the payment made on the same day can’t be credited to my account.

Looks like I would be stopping using their APP.

It’s game over for SBI Rewardz. SBI has virtually killed Rewardz by limiting the maximum reward for the month to mere 1000 points (Rs. 250) across all categories of cards. The change was implemented from 15-July-2019.

So which is now the best debit card for Cred?

    Reply
      1. Amit

Agree with Sharad. Its massive culling of loyalty programme of sbi debit cards.
All types/variants of debit card now earns mere 2 points per Rs. 200 with a capping of 100 points per transaction. Further, there is a capping of 1000 points per calendar month per customer id.
This means one needs to do 10 transactions of Rs. 10000 each (total Rs. 1 lakh) on their debit cards to achieve 1000 points worth Rs. 250. There is no monthly or quarterly bonus anymore.
Even though one gets 2x points during birthday month but that itself is capped to 200 points (hence, birthday month capping of 1200 points).

This is one hell of a massive devaluation for SBI Rewardz. Other recent devaluations of Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank, etc seems very mild compared to this!

The other cards that I can think of:
        1. Axis Priority A/c: Are we still getting the 10% cashback for CRED transactions?
        2. DCB Elite savings A/c :1.6% cashback on debit card spends up to 2,000 pm. Max 20k annually.
        3. Citi Gold/Priority/Private Gold A/c: 2% cashback assuming the merchant is “PaymentsPayU” but can anyone confirm?
        4. DCB Treasures A/c: Not sure if we get points for CRED transactions?

I guess the best account now is DCB Elite savings A/c. Just Rs 25k balance to be maintained.

This was never published on the rewardz website nor was it communicated to the customers via email or sms on or before 15 July 2019. The overview section of the website was secretly updated around 20th July or 21st July to give it a retrospective effect.

This is a very interesting proposition for Cred. Also, don’t reply me like just you did in previous emails that ‘many won” as if it’s the case then you people have already decided the winners from your database.

Here is the trick to get maximum benefits from CRED.

Imagine you have to pay credit card bill of Rs 10,000, and you pay on CRED and get 5000 coins burn and a 1000 coins burn which by the way if you burn you end up like Rs 8, 10 or 16.

Now if you split and pay Rs 1000/- in 10 different transactions (1000 coins burn if you pay Rs 1000 in single transaction), you will get on an average Rs 10 for each transaction, that’s like 1% of Rs 10,000 bill payment and if you are lucky you’ll end up even more. So it’s a win win.

Just keep in mind that you need patience to do the above.

    1. Ankit Malhotra

You have to be more specific here. There can be the following cases :

1.) The card is expired and you got a new card number while the payment was made to old card. In this case you have nothing at all to worry as the payment will still be reflected to the newly issued card with all the banks. Its just like making outstanding payment to a blocked card. Blocked cards accept credit transactions for different periods of time depending on the each banks policy. If you do not intend to use the renewed card in the near future for the entire amount, then the bank will issue you a check of the excess payment and dispatch it to your address. If you hold an account with the same bank, they may even credit it directly to your account, but this usually happens only after verifying that this was the source account of the funds.

2.) You closed/cancelled the card account and then made a payment by mistake instead of another card where you intended to. The remedial action is the same as the one mentioned above, where the customer care will get the amount reversed through a check.

Capping of debit card transaction to 2k is most likely due to MDR. As per RBI, banks have to bear the costs for trxns upto 2k and MDR of 0.9% is applied on trxns greater than 2k. Cred was probably bearing it all this while but it would hurt their finances. So, this was eventually going to happen for sure.

I don’t why people are in the habbit of cribbing for everything. Some of the posts above say that they want to stop using CRED because of this. Understand that it is your loss and not CRED’s. For years together paying credit card bills was never rewarding. In the last 9 months, the amount of rewards I’ve got through CRED has even surpassed the rewards I get from credit card spends.

Enjoy the freebies while you can, stop complaining for god’s sake. In a normal situation, you buy an item from a vendor and pay him by cash. The transaction is over and you got nothing. In same situation , you pay by credit card and earn reward points and settle credit card bill and earn points there too. Now, I don’t see a reason how people still find a way to complain about something?

According to me, the issue and cribbing is not about this change to payments through debit cards. This was never sustainable in the first place and was only there to lure customers to their platform! What’s pathetic is that Cred did not even put up any proper communication to the customers informing of this change (heck even Paytm does so!). They could have alteast sent an email/sms/app notification, along with a date from which this is going to be effective. Changing tnc overnight is a very bad practice and only brings mistrust for any company.

Does anyone able to pay using DCB debit card, i tried for 2000 but still CRED says the transaction denied and they didn’t ask for OTP or online PIN during the process. Is anyone able to do it successfully using the DCB debit card?

If the payment is for more than 1 lakh, then if you want to pay the entire amount in 1 go, it allows you to do so since UPI payment limit is max 1 lakh.

Just like every coupon site — they actually get paid for every “reward” they distribute. One of my very close friends operates a highly successful online coupon business. The rule of thumb is is you’re giving off a Rs. 250 coupon, there is around 250 commission on top of it, with company essentially paying Rs. 500 to gain a customer.

I’ll think CRED makes even more as audience is curated.

Can anyone list top rewarded coupons in the CRED app? Last month I figured out Lifestyle coupons were the best. They essentially count to 5% (A Lifestyle coupon worth ₹500 can be avail by burning 10k cred points) of whatever points you accumulate by paying CC bills.
Are there any similar high returning coupons available?

It seems coupons are vary based on bill payment pattern. My friend got Lifestyle coupon But I didn’t get the same. I paid the cc bill through different channel. So as per CRED I didn’t paid my bill.

So its better to pay bill via cred to get best coupons.

I have provided all the detail along with UTR & other inputs like date of reverseal and last four digits of card. But still i am not getting any response from the CRED.

I am yet to pay my credit card bill to SBI Credit Card and i am penlized for 1000 Rs. I dint know , what the hell this CRED support and management in CRED is sitting with the bullshit app.

I paid my citi card bill using CRED but it has not been reflected in my card account. Contacted CREd support and they are THE WORST IN USER HANDLING SUPPORT. They say my card has not been verified, but how come the app shown exact bill amount if it has not been verified ? When asked this, the customer care representative was not able to answer and kept on blaming me. Then i sent the statement of my card bill and the 1 rupee credited by CRED post verification. After that no response for my mails. Since the bill i paid for citi card has not been added in credit card account, my card has been blocked and i was charged late fee as well. Very excruciating experience from CRED team. If they can’t resolve they can at least respond to my mails.

It’s not a first of a kind experience. Almost a similar thing happened with me. The payment was deducted as usual as it was previously. However this time it didn’t reflect on my statement. The cred helpline wouldn’t reply besides the generic generating a ticket number. On emailing them I got one generic reply and then nada.
However I managed to sort this out before the last payment date

This is applicable 2nd week onwards…. (week 2 session starts from 6 PM on 10-12-2019)

I know this thread is not so exciting right now. But wanted to re check, does cred payment via Google Pay using DCB elite savings ac debit card/ axis priority savings ac debit card qualify for cashback/rewards?

Since the yearly cashback is roughly 20,000, it would be great if someone having either of these accounts could try it/check with customer care.

If you want to try your luck to convert points into cash, you can pay in multiples of 1000
As a fair policy they are giving maximum 5 Scratch cards per month on each card, so u can do you math and take a call.
If my bill amount is 50K,i used to do 10K *5 payments to get maximum benifit from scratch cards.

Cred is also going to ve doing rent payment like RedGirraf. But that will be an expense 1.75% on Cred as compared to 0.39% on RG using CC .

Also interest rates between 10 & 15 % for loans ( 1/3rd of cc rates) is indicated in the news. Tie up with IDFC First Bank is mentioned. Think this credit line will be to usable pay off CC only.

Cred cashbacks are nothing worth talking about now. However, CredPay is still handy, though they have been cutting down there as well. Apps like Swiggy, CredPay discounts are significant even now. Both on restaurants and Instamart. Freshtohome, Licious, Urban Company, CredPay can still be handy. The shopping section isn’t quite worth it, travel deals don’t make a world of difference either.

So the lakhs of cred coins lying meaninglessly in so many people’s accounts are finally starting to deplete, since they started burning 1000 coins for every spin instead of 100. Rewards are as low as Re1, so other apps are often better for card payments.
