American Express has gone aggressive this Quarter not only on their personal cards like with Amex Plat offers and Amex Reserve offer but also on their corporate/business cards to raise the business card spends.
This is happening at right time now as businesses are recovering from Covid-19 impact and getting back on revenues (hope the 2nd wave affects less). Here are the latest offers from 1st April 2021 on American Express Corporate cards:
Table of Contents
Spend Linked Offer
- Offer: Spend 40 Lakhs & get 1 Lakh points
- Offer Period: April 2021 to Dec 2021
This offer is applicable to those who applied and got approved for the American Express Corporate Platinum on/after 1st April 2021.
What this offer does is basically double your reward rate, similar to double rewards promo, but to avail that 2X value a min. spend is required in this case.
As you might know, Amex Platinum gives 2.5 Reward points on Rs.100 spend (1 MR per Rs.40 spend) but by achieving this target you get 2X rewards, meaning 5 Reward points on Rs.100 spend.
So on spending 40 Lakhs INR you get 2 Lakh points (1 Lakh regular points + 1 Lakh bonus points).
That’s a very good value which gives you a reward rate of ~2.5% (assuming 1MR = 50Ps) on the spend upon achieving the target.
Accelerated Rewards
- Offer: 2X rewards on select type of spends
- Type of Spends: Amazon, Flipkart & foreign currency spends
- Max. Cap: 35,000 Points per month
A decent offer but for foreign currency spends its still a loss to use Amex corporate cards.
Note: This offer used to exist even before (in 2020) with other partners like: AWS, LinkedIn and FB Ad spends. So its just that the partners are shuffled for this year.
While this is not an amazing offer as such, anyway businesses have these type of spends, so it doesn’t hurt to route the spends here for better returns.
Bottomline
It’s finally good to see American Express showing 2X interest in Corporate Credit Card segment. Hope to see more such offers on business cards in future, as this is an untapped segment for card companies, for now.
I was hoping this segment to get some traction in India by 2020 but the Virus destroyed the dreams of many and now we will have to wait till 2022 to see some promising business credit card products in India.
Until then, what’s your thoughts on this new Amex Corporate Card Offers? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
What is the eligibility for this card ?
Every once in a while you keep talking about AmEx business cards. I can never find it on AmEx’s website. Where is this business cards info? What is the eligibility, how to get it ? Do you have AmEx business or any other business card?
Perhaps an article on business card can be good?
Its on Amex website. Applications are done via RM. Will cover business cards more in detail in coming days.
A little off query – Does Amex offer your upgrades from credit card to charge card and vice versa or only charge to charge/ credit to credit?
Amex upgrade offer emails you’re referring to? There are no rules on that. They just try to give you one more card every year, depending on the profile.
Amex don’t actually have “upgrade” concept. They just issue a new card with new credit line.
Thank you
With the ban coming from May 1 Would AMEX offer a personal card to apart those holding corporate card?
Would it come under existing customer or under new customer?
They won’t be able to issue you a new card. It will come under new customer.
Hi Sidharth needs some thoughts and ideas on this year platinum card annual fee and retention. Can u open up some thoughts on it as others can share the Exp and guide . My annual fee already charged so need to have some ideas
I see that the retention offers this year are low compared to the last year (so far) and they justify it with the cashback offers.
Yes you are right but considering the recent decision of RBI we need to review how it will impact the retention policy. If they are not allowed to enroll new customers then loosing the existing customer is a big challenge especially in this covid scenario. They are right that they given cash back offers but have u has any conversation or any break though info from other guys …
Yes, one of my friend who got about 80K points last year was denied for any points this year stating the same.
Last year I got 1,20,000 points … I converted to double value and paid the fee … infact I ahve gained around 2.5 lac worth value this year so feeling shy to ask for retention offer but I will try hard and update but I like to see some opening point that’s why I was asking for others opinions
I have recently received Corporate Platinum Card but struggling to use it anywhere as most of the fuel stations in my vicinity ie Thane doesn’t accept Amex, very few organisations accept Amex and Amex Pay with QR never works. Any help/advise on how to use the card would be appreciated.
Platinum Service at Petrol Bunks with AMEX CORP PLAT.
I have an AMEX CORP PLAT for 2 weeks & went to a nearby petrol bunk (where I usually go, i know people there), There was a new guy I showed them my card & said them first would you accept this card (first time swiping there), One of the senior guy (whom i know but have not had any conversation) there came with AMEX SWIPE MACHINE swiped it. He asked about this card & said few details. Usually, they aren’t polite, but this time it was the opposite, they were so polite, called me sir (usually Bro), Made others at my back till I am comfortable to leave (usually would hurry me to leave ASAP), Asked me Sir want to do Air check and all (usually they won’t ask) Felt so special. Is it because of AMEX PLAT?
Looks like you found someone who knows the fact that “an Amex card holder spends 3 – 4 times than other cardholders”.
You’re enjoying the benefits of that 😉
Hi Siddharth & friends got platinum retention of 120000 points I requested them to retain last year offer & graciously they did it . I got lucky as my matter was handled by same executive and she was superb in her approach & she remembered me as my name was only 3 letter.
Cool. I’m assuming that the ban is doing wonders. Let’s see what others get.
