Secret is out: How to Enable HDFC Credit Card Loan offers

By | January 12, 2017

Update: This Premium Content has been discontinued.

If you’re a HDFC credit card customer, you might have felt this pain when looking for EMI/loan offers on your card. HDFC has 3 different type of credit card loans namely Smart EMI, Insta Loan & Insta Jumbo loan which i’ve covered in detail here. However, its not a standard credit card benefit, rather it changes every month based on your CC usage pattern.

How to Enable HDFC Credit Card Loan offers

Despite spending a LOT on my Business Regalia, the so called premium card, i NEVER used to get any EMI/loan offer for about 1 year or so. This made me curious to figure out what HDFC is looking for to provide their customers with offers.

While i wasn’t chasing EMI offers, HDFC offers one of the best interest rates for those who’re in need of it. Also, i’ve been asked over and over again by readers as to how the EMI/loan offers being triggered on HDFC cards, so here’s the solution.

#1 How to Get HDFC Credit card loan Offers

I started my Research with 6 HDFC credit cards to decode HDFC’s artificial intelligence behind this and i was pretty successful 😉

Lets cut the talk and get right to the point.

-> The secret is: Spend on SHOPPING sites

Yes, as simple as that. HDFC favors you if you’re a shopping freak for some reason or other. They don’t like you spending on random business expense, no matter how big it is. I’ve never got any offers until i finally applied this concept of “shopping” and you know what, i got the EMI offer within 10 days after applying the trick.

Not just that, i was pretty successful in even triggering Insta Loan offer on my card later. While we may think these as “tricks”, its all a common sense for banks.

#2 How to Get Auto Credit Limit Enhancement

It provides methods to enable the Credit Limit enhancement offer on your HDFC Credit card without any Income Proof (or) request to bank. The method is completely automated and works on itself. Tested with Moneyback Credit Card and the full details of the research is available in the premium content.

Few Tips:

  1. This is something that deals with Insta Loan
  2. Utilization ratio <30% required for this to work.

Premium Content: Know the Nitty Gritty of the Testing

If you would like to know more personal details about where exactly i spent on my testing that triggered the said offers, i’m giving out my research as a premium/paid content. Things covered in the premium content:

  1. Which HDFC cards i used
  2. Where i spent
  3. How much i spent
  4. How to get reduced Interest rates (11.88%)
  5. How many days it took for EMI/Insta Loan/Insta Jumbo Loan offer to be enabled
  6. How to Get Auto Credit Limit Enhancement
  7. Precautions to make it work 100%

Why am i charging? I’ve spent a lot of time and money in this testing process, for example, i took EMI/Insta Loans on the cards and paid the interest which i don’t need to.

Release Notes:

  1. Initial Release: Jan 2017
  2. Update April 2017: Added a trick to enable auto credit limit enhancement offer on HDFC Credit Cards. This is the “one pleasant surprise” part in the previous release, now with in-depth info.

Further Research Updates: I’ll keep updating more on this whenever i’ve new information. New version’s will be available for free for paid members, lifetime.

What is avg cr. card limits in India? Is 7l+ a good limit/avg? Is jumbo loan of 5lac good/avg? Kindly guide. Thanks

Limits depends on the income level. Most have 1L-2L limits, few with 2-5L limits, very few with 5L-10L limits.
That’s a nice jumbo loan Offer.

I’m not sure about this. from my experience… It is like whenever the card is changed, the offer is not carried forward. card change in this case is not limited to card upgrade but issue of same card variant where the card was lost.

i had to block my regalia two times and had to apply for a replacement (once for losing my card and once for one suspicious transaction). Both times , the offer for smart EMI and Insta Loan was not carried forward and I had to wait for sometime to get these offers reactivated.

Maybe manual intervention might cause this change. No idea though. HDFC card loan/emi features are unique for every customer.

    Hello Siddharth,

    Hope you are doing fine.

I took your advice and upgraded my money back card to Regalia First, they offered me a free upgrade! I’m happy with the card and I would like to apply for a new card from a different bank as a back-up. Which card would you suggest? My spends are mainly on Amazon and Freecharge/PayTM.

Must say, you are doing a fine job by updating your blog regularly. Keep it up!

Thanks for your time & help.

Consider taking SBI Simply Click. It has some better reward points for online/amazon spends.
      Will perfectly fit your needs.

    Hi Siddharth,

I have taken Insta Loan of 1 lakh for 12 months @ 0.99% monthly and reducing emi of 9026rs and last emi would be 8891.
In total they are charging 7700rs extra as interest and ONLY 250rs as processing fees + 22rs ST, so total is approx 8000rs on 1 lakh of Principal.
There was some offer going on as there were no fixed 1% charges + ST, only 250 + ST will cover everything.
Is interest rate in your case is same or different? and what about processing fees?
Please let me know, my DD is yet to arrive as I don’t have HDFC account, only Diners card and amount is blocking my Diners Rewards Credit limit.

    Thanks in advance.

      Haris,
Yes, you’re right. This is the lowest interest (0.99% now for all months – temporary promo) and the processing fees these days changes as you’ve mentioned.
My research on interest part is more about getting 0.99% even at times when promo is not running 🙂

    Hi Siddharth,
It also happened with me too. I shopped a DJ controller from Ebay using EMI but payment got failed. Then I shopped the same controller from Snapdeal and this time payment was confirmed but seller was not able to fulfill the product. Left with no other choice I went to local shop and bought the controller without EMI (as Diners Club CC lack its compatibility with many EMI machines). I thought now I will pay the amount in 3 months at a rate of 42.5% interest pa. But I frequently kept visiting the netbanking and kept trying Emi on the specfic transaction but always got not available message but to my luck nearly after 15 days EMI was enabled for that transaction and I got loan accepted. But still Insta Loan and Insta Jumbo Loan is not enabled neither I am sure that I will get EMI in future or was it only a limited offer. But thanks to HDFC and I am happy they provided me EMI for that specific transaction for which I was in dire need.

Sid, If the CC bill is 25K, paying 25K on few days before due date or pay as 2-3 installment like 10K, 10K, 5K in between those days. Which is better? Is there any negative effect on making CC bill payment multiple times for small amount instead of single full payment?

Hey Sid, how far can you go with the credit limit enhancement technique on hdfc cards.
For instance, if I have a limit on hdfc card < 1 lac, can I get to something like 8 lac? And if yes, how fast?

    Reply
    1. Siddharth Post author

8L limit, i couldnt commit on that. But there are some readers who went as good as 7L. But again it takes years, atleast 3-4 years, provided the usage is that high as well.

    Hi Siddharth,
I am a big fan of yours. You seem to have nailed the Credit Card industry dynamics very well.
I have became a credit card freak reading all your blogs about so many highly rewarding credit cards.
I am basically looking for some card which offer high reward rate. SC Ultimate feels a nice card to have.
But I am not sure on how can I get it.
I was having a MoneyBack Card which got upgraded to Regalia First with a limit of 1.8L.
Although I feel this much limit is not enough when I try to apply for some premium cards.
Can you suggest me some way.?
Is there a way to get limit of this card increased above 3L in short duration? Or else some other way to get these cards.
I am looking for one of the following cards :-
    1. Standard Chartered Ultimate Rewards
    2. Yes First Preferred Credit Card

“Utilization ratio <30% required for this to work."
Seems like HDFC has made some recent changes in this criteria. I used up almost 95% of my credit limit recently and they offered auto LE within 2 days. Though they increased the limit by just 15% but it was for the first time they offered LE after the card setup date.

    Hi Sid!

First of all i would like to thank you & congratulate you on the great job you are doing.
Your website has indeed helped me a lot in planning my expense & making the most out of the cards i have.
I would like to get an insight in the following points:
    1. Does requesting for credit card upgrade (Say HDFC allmiles to Diners Premium) make HDFC go for an “Hard Inquiry” on my CIBIL score?
    2. Approximately How much is our CIBIL score affected when Banks go for an “Hard Inquiry” & how long does it take for us to makeup for the drop in score? (I’ve seen u mention many times to wait for atleast 6 months.. is it duration dependent?)
    Waiting for Your response.
Until then Keep up the awesome work !! Cheers!

      Hi surya,

Send your latest ITR along with the online LE form to chennai, if their internal cretria meets definitely they would enchance the limit.

Also using 98% of limit every month might be a reason they are not enhancing it. Using it around 30% of limit for 6 months should help.

      Cheers,
