If you’re dealing with lots of txn’s or spending on bonus reward points category, one of the important things you need to do with HDFC Credit Card is ASK for the reward points breakup for your last month statement. They’ll take about a week to provide you an excel file with all the info about date/description/reward points credited to your account in detail.

3X Reward Points on International Spends
While looking into the Reward Points breakup of my previous month statement, i saw an unusual description as: 3X RP – Intl Spends which simply means i’m getting 3X rewards on all international spends. That’s really huge on Diners Black and i’m unsure if its just for me or for everyone holding HDFC cards. Well, here are the Numbers,
- Diners Black usual Reward Rate: 3.3%
- 3X Rewards Means: 9.9%
- Markup Fee: 2%+tax = ~2.5%
- Net Savings: 9.9-2.5= 7.4%
That’s awesome 7.4% value back on any international Spends baby! I was sticking to Indusind Exclusive Signature Debit card for all International transactions these days, which has 0% markup fee + 2% value back, but Diners black gives me whooping 7.4% which i wasn’t even aware of.
Its like: You spend Rs.1,00,000 and get Rs.7,400 back. Tempting isn’t it? 😀
Its time to re-route the Intl spends now. But, the problem however is the acceptance issue. I can’t use it on bigger scale, but even small amount of reward points is still good. Also, i guess they would be having an upper cap for this promo, which maybe 1000 points a month maybe, but it’s not mentioned anywhere.
Few Tips:
- I noticed i was receiving the 3X points on Intl spends both on Sep & Oct 2016. So its likely to continue for sometime.
- The offer maybe available on all HDFC cards, or just on premium cards. You’ve to ask HDFC or simply do a txn and test it yourself and see reward points when statement is ready.
- They’re posting this 3X bonus RP in a week time.

I have received 3X reward points in Dec 16 and Jan 17 on my Diners Black card. So, it is still on.
I have only one thing against HDFC (not as a customer) but as a business – if you have such a lucrative offer running, why would you not advertise or inform your customers?
