Amex 100% Cashback Offer – upto Rs.30,000 on food, shopping & Travel

Amex 100% Cashback Offer

While we’re already high on rewards and cashback’s because of the long list of raining amex offers that American Express rolled out for this August 2021, here’s yet another mind-blowing 100% cashback offer for the Platinum charge card holders.

Offer Details

OfferGet 100% Cashback on spends with select merchants
Max. Cashback:Rs.30,000
Eligible Spend TypesFlipkart, Croma, MakeMyTrip & Zomato – Refer T&C
Offer Period17 Aug – 7 Nov 2021
How to opt-inLogin to Amex Account & Save offer to card
Fulfilment3-5 Days usually (but might take upto 90 days, rarely)

These 100% cashback offers on metal cards are one of a kind in the industry and Amex is becoming a trendsetter with this, just like how HDFC did with 10X rewards.

Just incase if you’re wondering, the black card gets sweet 50K INR cashback – they deserve more though.

The previous 100% cashback offer upto Rs.27,500 was quite useful for me as I utilised most of it to grab a new M1 Macbook Air via Flipkart. This time I’ll probably use it for festive shopping at Croma.

If I assume it right, this year too we may not see festive offer for plat charge as this offer is partly designed with that in mind – Diwali is on 4th and this offer ends on 7th.

Bottom line

This is perhaps the 5th such 100% Cashback offer that Amex rolled out post Covid-19 breakout and its fortunately getting better over time.

These offers are basically decided by the big guy: Covid-19

That’s right, as long as the virus mutates and creates a stage for the new wave, travel is expected to fall and Amex will reward the cardholders with alternative benefits like this one.

That all said, its sad that new amex cards can’t be issued at the moment due to RBI ban and so you can’t grab this metal card to enjoy these jaw dropping offers.

While Amex can’t issue cards for those who’re new-to-amex, I guess they can still technically upgrade the cards for existing cardmembers just like how HDFC does – if they wish so.

Amex refrains from doing that as of now without a solid reason that’s known to me, but if the ban continues for longer period, I think upgrades would be inevitable.

When 100% cashback was introduced last time, I bought Mi’s robo vacuum and it helped a lot as our house maid didn’t come for close to a month..

Hoping to get something similar this time as well… Might go for a good laptop for my wife, who is a Branding Consultant…

With this , Amex (in my annual cycle) will plough back all my card fees , tempting me to pay for another year

Same. I recovered more than the annual fees + taxes. I was thinking of calling the support for reversal of fees or some extra renewal benefits, but looks like I wouldn’t need it now 🙂

Yes Amex is refraining from upgrades and I checked with CC, owing to RBI’s ban they are not doing upgrades, card reinstatement nor issuing supplementary cards for existing cardholders. I asked for supplementary cards when they rolled out the shop small campaign but they declined citing ‘RBI advisory’.
I m not clear what they meant by card reinstatement – whether it means expiring cards won’t be renewed or lost ones won’t be replaced.

reinstatement is re-opening the card ac that’s closed in last 1 yr.

Offer extended to Supplemtary card holder. However, it is towards 30,000 cashback on all primary + supplement card holders

I always purchase flipkart gift vouchers from flipkart thru such offers that gives me 1 year to spend that amount if there is no immediate requirement of any product.

Yay got the offer on my platinum charge card its quite a laugh that I was about to close my platinum charge card earlier “Due to less spends” and just keep the Platinum Reserve active. I would have not made the full year fee back if I had 🙂 thx Sid and Amex.

“While Amex can’t issue cards for those who’re new-to-amex, I guess they can still technically upgrade the cards for existing cardmembers just like how HDFC does – if they wish so.”

No Sid they are not upgrading/downgrading the cards as they are not exactly a bank its not allowed yet but they are supposed to get partial operations back soon.

I’ve received a 30K cashback offer on my Plat Charge. It includes flipkart.
Can I buy stuff on flipkart via reward multiplier and get 5X benefit too.?”

        Answer:
“I would like to inform you that you can avail both the benefits at the same time”.

Any Income Tax angle on this given the huge Cashbacks being rolled out by Amex and the total cashbacks definitely crossing the Rs. 50,000 mark.

      Ideally payable.

But it’s good to have it checked with the auditor as each one treat differently given the fact that the tax on cashback rule is not crystal clear yet.

Anyway, its old story. GST on cashback/voucher seems to be the new nightmare for 2021 & beyond.

Nice that you let the above comment be published and responded in kind but there are certain cards that you need to review like the RBL Signature+ Debit Card “1% Amazon Vouchers + 5Lac online spend gets you 5K Amazon Voucher” and several others. Take suggestions from your members they would know cards ups & downs for sure.

RBL Signature+ Debit Card – Nice one, didn’t explore this before.
Any idea what brands are covered under the 5K voucher benefit?
That aside, 0% markup fee & 2% returns upto 5L spend looks pretty good.

Have any more cards to be covered? Pls list them.

            Hi Sid,
Pls. consider DB Signature and Infinite cards, they give out sweet 1.5% and 2% respectively up to 2500 per month which is roughly a return on 4L FD 🙂
While they give 20% on Big Basket every month, recently they have Shop-a-haul to get up to 12k Amazon vouchers for 5L spend across Jun-Sep which adds returns to 5.5K a month apart from other monthly spend offers which they came up recently.

          2. Siddharth Post author

            Yeah good ones.

But Signature/Infinte seems to ask 10L/1Cr NRV even for small cities.
Meaning, are they strict about the eligibility criteria?

            And Shop-a-haul offer – isn’t it targeted?

          3. AAJ

            Other means Sid 🙂
deutschebank allows through Insurance 3L+4L deposit for Signature.
Infinite they insist on 50L, their 5 yr FD is comparatively good at 6.25% (definitely not near SFBs with 7%).

          4. Siddharth Post author

Okie cool. Btw, the Shop-a-haul offer repeats every year?

          5. AAJ

Shop-a-haul could be targeted like you asked, as SMS/email says if you have received it.
            Link: deutschebank.co.in/debit-card-spend.html
            Unsure Sid, about its recurrence.

Does this debit card give cashback on Cred or mobikwik credit card payments too?

          Reply
          1. AAJ

Fortunately yes for now, i even tried Paytm, seems to be getting it – with they asking for up to 4.65% charges for adding to wallet, this becomes better as adding through DC is free. For some offers they don’t consider cc payments.

          2. Amrish

I couldn’t find debut card option on cred for payment. It shows only upi or netbanking. Is there a way to use debit card on cred?

          3. Shikhar Makkar

Are you able to use debit cards on cred? I thought that was removed long back. How are you doing it if you are able to do so?

          4. Amar

Yes – Cred allows Debit card for payments above 1 lac

          5. Amrish

Has MobiKwik stopped debit card use for credit card payment. Or have they gone the CRED way – only above 1 lac.
I tried paying a CC bill today under 1 lac and didn’t get the Debit Card option. Only UPI. Haven’t tried over 1 lac yet

          6. Abhi

Amrish, have mentioned in a different thread earlier, to use debit card on mobikwik to make CC payments you should not apply any promo/coupon code. If you apply codes such as CCPAY it won’t allow.

    2. Gautam

      This is ridiculous.

This site keps us updated on various cards and shares valuable information and you are attributing motives.

I have not found any reviews biased, so does it matter if the the author gets paid by HDFC or any other bank?

If you cannot make positive contribution don’t contribute.

Hi Amar, it’s 3L insurance premium and 4L deposit or 30L savings/FD for Signature and 50L for Infinite

Opened a DB Select account today in Mumbai – they asked me for 3L insurance +1L Savings account balance only.
Bargained hard for Infinity with similar proposition but they didn’t budge.

Also opened an RBL account with Signature+ debit card for wife and me.
Fingers crossed that credit card payments on Cred and Mobikwik through these cards yield me the cashback.

        Thanks AAJ for the insights.

Cool Amar 😊 so far I’ve received I can say for MobiKwik and possibly Paytm add to wallet as it’s free for DC – can’t differentiate as there is no breakup available. There is some quarterly spend benefit and current shop a haul just ask if you are eligible too, you can get up to 12k Amazon vouchers on 5L spend I guess. Good luck 👍 sharing is caring
Pls update if you manage to get Infinity with some other means and not plain 50L, ty

            Hi AAJ,

When do the cashback and points post for RBL Signature+ and DB Signature cards respectively?

Almost nearing a month for me and haven’t received anything on either.

          2. AAJ

Hi Amar, customer care mentioned they do update between 10-15th each month and I’ve mostly seen by end of 13th. I had same anxiety first two months 😊

        2. Amrish

Hi Amar, help me understand this. You are paying an insurance premium of 3 lacs a year to open the DB account, which will give you a cashback of 2500 a month? Isn’t that a bit much just for the cashback. Am I missing something, or were you anyway planning to purchase the insurance policy and the account benefits are an additional bonus.

          Reply
          1. Amar

            Hi Amrish
Firstly, it’s not 3 lacs a year requirement but even one-time payment of 3 lacs insurance premium is ok with them.
Secondly, there are now several low cost insurance products available in the market which are actually investment plans such as new age ULIP policies and guaranteed return products. I have anyways been investing in these products; hence it was just a redirection of the spend through DB.
Best part was I asked DB to allow me to pay for the insurance premium on credit card and they allowed it. Used StanC Ultimate card to get back 3.33% of the premium amount (points already posted to my account).

Lastly, the benefit on DB Select account is not just 2.5k a month. This apart there is a welcome offer of 16% cashback, shop a haul offer and some others.
Overall, it seems a well directed spend for me.

          1. Amar

            Haven’t transacted on Cred yet.
Used on Mobikwik and Paytm and awaiting the cashback.
Even the joining vouchers are yet to be sent.
I am assuming it happens by end of 30 days as per T&C.

For DB Signature card too, no reward points reflecting on site yet. Again assuming it will reflect upon month end.

          2. Amar

Update: For my RBL Signature+ card, I received the joining benefit vouchers of 5k today via a link directly sent by Gyftr (just like HDFC).
Available options to choose are Amazon, Flipkart, Croma and Zee5 (weird).

Separately, also received my first 1k spend voucher for 1% cashback on spends relating to August today on this card – again via Gyftr and same options.
I had used the card purely for paying my CC bills through Paytm and Mobikwik.

These cashbacks lure you to apply for platinum charge card, but then not sure will these caskbacks be there next year when corona ends hopefully and travel starts as I don’t travel that much. These cashbacks will almost cover annual fees I guess. Amex service is top notch, they gave small shop cashback even for those transactions where shops even though listed under small shop offer but refused to take amex.

You are probably correct, amex will only give these cashbacks till the pandemic remains … but the plat charge was majorly for luxury benfits and not cashbacks particularly , so if you are bot going to use luxury travel benefits , no point applying for the card regardless of the service they give

The offers we are seeing right now are surely unprecedented. It was not like this earlier. We use to see high end concert and holiday discounts, more value on points on redemption (1.5X Marriott points instead of 1 which is regular) and similar stuff. What remains constant is the Hotel Premium membership and similar benefits, hence the card is choice card for frequent travellers and specially among those who often travel abroad.
