Amex Offers: 5K discount on Flipkart & 10K MR on Insurance Spends

By | September 4, 2021
Amex Offer - Flipkart 5000 INR

Just like those raining Amex Offers for August 2021, this September too we’ve good set of offers coming up every now and then. So far we’ve two offers and we could expect more to come for obvious reasons. Here are the offer details:

Flipkart: 5000 INR Instant Discount

  • Offer: 10% instant Discount
  • Min. Spend: Rs.50000
  • Max. Discount: 5000 INR
  • Offer period: 4th & 5th Sep 2021
  • Offer email

This offer is applicable on select categories and fortunately eligible on Gift cards too. Not a surprise, as anyway gift cards can’t be used for some sensitive type of txns like gold coins, etc.

Update: currently not eligible on gift cards.

The beauty of this offer is that you can double dip this with other offers.

Insurance Offer: 10,000 MR Points

  • Offer: Earn 15 MR per 100 INR
  • Max. Cap: 10,000 MR
  • Offer period: 4th Sep – 30th Nov 2021
  • Type: Targeted Offer, needs enrolment.
  • Offer email

Amex usually runs insurance offers like this for all but this time I’m surprised to see it getting targeted only for select cardholders.

Another interest difference is that now they’re asking only for DOB to enrol into the offer. They’re probably tuning the personalised offer system even further.

    Hello,
I also got the mailer for the Insurance offer. Is it applicable for LIC payments as well or only the ones associated with Amex like ICICI Lombard

Please refer the terms and conditions:
Only eligible transactions going through merchant platforms will be eligible for Membership Rewards® points. Transactions going through an aggregator (like Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) may not trigger Membership Rewards® points.

LIC use PAYTM payment gateway . will it works?

Hi Sid, thanks for all the wonderful knowledge you share. Just wanted to inform that LIC currently only shows Paytm as the payment gateway and amex team has confirmed that it won’t be applicable for this offer since T&C mention no payment aggregators. It would be great if anyone has any alternative way to pay for LIC. Thanks

Would you suggest to use the 2x on infinia or 15MR/Rs100 on amex ? Have car insurance renewal coming up

      2x = 6.6% on Super Premium
      15MR = 7.5% roughly

      I would go with Amex.

        Hi Sid,

I couldn’t find any minimum spend value associated with this offer.
I believe it will be a cumulation of all spends post enrolment until 30th November and done directly on Insurance Websites and not through Third Parties.

Rather try using 3X offer of payzapp wherever payzapp works, albeit having a lower cap.

For Infinia, the 2x offer(1000 points max.) on HDFC max out at 15,000.
For MRCC, the 15MR per 100 (10000 points max.) on Amex max out at 66,000.

I feel the HDFC offer has very low max limit.
And as Sid said, I will also go with Amex, both because higher limit and higher return.

        Praveen,

For Infinia, the 2x offer(1000 points max.) on HDFC actually maxes out at 30,000. The 1000 points capping is on the bonus 1X part. I’ve confirmed this with HDFC Customer Care. So if you spend Rs30K on insurance, you’ll get 1000 REGULAR points in the coming statement and then further 1000 BONUS points in the next statement.

I was able to use the Amex offer on Flipkart to purchase the Malabar 10g 24k gold coin below the current spot price. The final price paid was ₹46500/-

        Per gram (22k) calculated: ₹4264/
        Market Price (22k) [04.09.21]: ₹4584/-
Benefit: ₹320 per gram; ₹3200 per coin

When paying LIC, do we have to do it from their app/site to get the benefit of the offer, or payment through Amazon Pay/Phonepe/Paytm would also do?

The 5k instant discount was available on 4th morning. I bought 50k*2 joyalukkas vouchers with 5k discount each. Unfortunately, the offer is not available on 4th evening.

I haven’t received both offers, and it’s disheartening.

I neither recorded Aug offers nor the above September offers with eight years relationship and 830 CIBIL scores, and continuous payment; the targeted criteria is disappointing

The worst thing about the insurance offer is that the MR points will get credited by 20 March 2022. Not sure why Amex has given such a long period.

    1. Sandeep

to keep the card holders hooked to amex as long as possible, As you loose out the benefits if you decide to cancel the card. Atleast till the time they can again start issuing new cards

Can you please confirm whether Insurance Offer is applicable for NPS payment or not?

I don’t think NPS payment will be treated as insurance. But one can make a small payment and after transaction posting you can call the cc to check if last transaction will be covered or not. However do remember that most card issuers are not very happy with nps payments. I think siddharth has covered this in good detail in an article sometime back.

AMEX is not accepting payments made through lic website for the insurance offer as it is done by Paytm aggregator.

Anyone has idea if will also cover mediclaim insurance premiums? hope it does

As far as LIC is concerned I think payment will be considered for reward points if payment is made on LIC website (even if paytm is the only payment gateway). Believe it’s the payments on paytm app/ amazon pay etc. which would be excluded.. if any one has tried it so far.. then please update us..

Also someone please share the link for 2x on insurance payments on Infinia.

I made a payment directly in LIC website. It displayed only Paytm gateway and I went ahead with the payment. However no reward points were credited and on reaching to CS they said it is a Paytm gateway which is not eligible for rewards. However in T&C it is mentioned only aggregator payment is not eligible for rewards. I am not sure whether aggregator and payment gateway are same. I have written by concern to AmEx customer care via email and will keep you posted if any updates.

Hi, Did anyone got the Reward points for LIC insurance payment? Yesterday I got the points for Insurance but in that Reward points for LIC is not there…I called the customer care twice before making the transaction in LIC website and got the confirmation that will get reward points for LIC also but now it’s not credited.

          2. Rajesh

Yes, i too received the point but LIC transactions are excluded in the reward points calculation.

@Jeyaganesh, can you put the mail confirmation received to CC

      1. Vineet Menon

Strange because the amex representative I talked to was pretty sure that I’ll get this offer even if the gateway is Paytm.

I have confirmed with amex representative thrice (Sep, Oct and today) & everyone has confirmed that my LIC payment transitions are eligible for the offer.
The Biller ID (LIC) is part of the 10K MR insurance offer even it uses Paytm as payment gateway.

I was trying to pay for icici lombard, but when it goes to amex safekey page, it gets stuck there and displays error : Technical Issues We are sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties right now. I called Amex but they are clueless.

Is anyone else facing this error, any way out? I was thinking of availing this additional rewards option, otherwise will have to pay using another card. Any insurance offers on cards other than Amex? Thanks

Rec’d points for insurance spend on Plat Charge card today. I am observing a trend that same offer is processed much earlier on other cards than Plat Charge cards.
