Amex Offer: Get 3X Rewards on your Paytm wallet recharge

By | March 5, 2020

While most banks discourage wallet loads from credit cards, here is American Express wanting you to recharge your Paytm wallet and give you extra points on that. While I couldn’t understand why Amex does this, here are the offer details:

Amex Paytm Offer Details

  • Offer: Recharge your Paytm wallet for ₹10,000 or more with your American Express Card and earn 3X Membership Rewards® Points.
  • Offer Period: March 5, 2020 to March 31, 2020
  • Offer Type: Targeted, only those received the communication are eligible.
  • Max Bonus Points: 1,000 Bonus Membership Rewards (Equivalent to ~Rs.500)
  • The offer is only valid on Paytm wallet recharges & not valid for transactions done on Paytm to pay a merchant or buy a product or to pay bills for services.
  • Fulfilment: April 30, 2020
  • Offer T&C

To maximize the offer, you need to spend Rs.25,000 so you get 500 MR Points (regular )+ 1000 MR points (bonus) = 1500 MR Points in total.

For Gold cards, Good news is: Cardmember can spend a total of Rs.10,000 or more in one or more transactions on Paytm for wallet recharge, so you can grab the 1K monthly bonus rewards too.

Bottomline

While the offer is good, Paytm also added charges recently for a/c’s adding more than 10K a month. So I went ahead and tried to add 11K to a/c but it wasn’t charging me anything extra. Maybe Paytm revoke this again or some accounts are sparred? or maybe they charge after adding funds to a/c?!

That aside, as long as you receive this offer and as long as Paytm doesn’t charge you extra, its a great offer to avail as Paytm is more like real cash which can be used almost for everything like: fuel, online & offline spends.

Have you received this offer? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I tried to add me more than 10k in February, and pop up message came stating you are crossing 10 k limit and you will be charged 2%. PAYTM

Can more than 1 account be loaded? Don’t wanna risk above 10k on 1 account.

PayTm has now brought in restrictions whereby you may not be able to add more than 10K through separate accounts as well. Don’t know about others, but I’d received a pop-up message last month stating that adding money beyond 10K through a single credit card [even through different accounts] cannot exceed 10K in a month. So all in all, this offer may not be worth it if you have to pay 2% to add money to your PayTm wallet in excess of 10K in a month.

If you are going to redeem these 1000 points as a part of 24K carat points redemption, you are still gaining a bit from it!!

I added only 10k in march without any fee as it shown 2% for adding more . So on the night of March 31st ie April 1st 00:05 I added again 10k, paytm didn’t charge any fee. Amex recognised it as a transaction done on March 31st. So I got 800 bonus points for adding 20k.

This can be done in one or more transactions.
Not necessary 10k in single transaction as mentioned in T&C

Charges on loading beyond Rs.10k is only for CAT B of users. CAT A continues to enjoy free wallet loads. I have been able to load Rs. 30k without any charges recently.

For more details one can refer paytm website.

Looks like they reverted to the old Classic/Privilege customer. Not mentioned, but I guess if you don’t withdraw money from wallet to bank, they will likely not continue to charge you…

He is talking about Premium vs Classic Customers. Classic customers are charged 2% for any wallet load via credit cards. Whereas Premium Customers can reload any amount with credit card without any charges.

Holding Amex Travel Card for 4 years, never received spend based offers. Though Amex is great on customer service, but not giving spend based offers to everyone makes them look bad. Amex should really focus on this area to expand in India.

Not everyone has ultimate card moreover redemption options are too limited on ultimate. I think it is better offer when we compare all things not just reward rate.

At the juncture, the extra Rs. 200 (2%) popped up and I thought the deal wasn’t worth it.

Yes, these cheap offers will come and go but stanc ultimate is the daddy of wallet loading cards. The biggest advantage is that they count transantions in 30 multiples and give 1 reward point for transactions which don’t complete to rs 30. Ex: rs 16 transaction also gives 1 reward point.
Stanc ultimate and dcb/infinia is the best combo anyone can have.

What I understood is in total it should be minimum 10K during the offer period. So it may not be 10K wallet recharge at one go but you can break it up in smaller denominations as well. Am i correct?

first min wallet load should be more than 10k ( break amount any within offer period is included), Max amount one can load in Paytm using a Cradit card is 10k for max. Customers. There is a trick that if you have supplementary card you can use that card for wallet load to other Paytm account.

We get 3x points for spending on paytm, which includes regular points also.

Aside of the ongoing topic, have a different concern here. On my MRCC card, I do 4 transactions of >=1000 in a calendar month to get 1000 bonus reward pts. This month I did two transactions on 1Mar and two on 7Mar. In Feb I separately did four. The ones on 1Mar I did after 1am early morning. Now Amex statement is showing those as 29Feb instead of 1Mar, so its counting them as 6 transactions in Feb and 2 in March rather than 4 and 4. I ll end up having to do two extra transactions now..

    Reply
    1. Gautam

It happened with me as well in January. But don’t worry the actual statement generated at the end of monthly billing cycle will contain the correct date. You anyway have proof in the form of PAYTM statement/bill payment receipt that you can show, if need be.
      Thx
      Gautam

      1. Abhi

They agreed to manually add the monthly bonus points and count those 2 transactions as 1Mar.
Point to be noted: do your transactions only after 7am on 1st of the month, else it ll get counted as last date of prev month.
I had done at 1am on 1Mar so it was taken as 29Feb.

For people who have not received the offer email, all you need to do is to get in touch with the Custermer care and ask them if this offer is valid on your card or not.
I also did not receive the email to date but when I asked the Amex team they confirmed that the offer was valid on my Amex platinum travel card and that No enrolment was required.
So for all those who are unhappy because they dint get the email, you still have a chance.

Given that you won’t be able to travel next 3-6 months, you can’t get much value from it. Ask Amex reg. the same and see what they could offer.

          20K Taj voucher is usual,
50K points is decent though but anyway as its not a travel season, Amex could offer better.

Maybe they will, once they see significant # of cards getting cancelled.

          2. MT

            @Navneet

In simple terms , for credit card dues , your minimum payment due will be reduced to 0 if you opt for moratorium with interest accruing at the APR(interest rate) the bank assigned to you … if you have emi , the amount you dont pay will be treated as new loan and added to your outstanding principal

Only advantage is if you dont pay , they wont report to CIBIL

Disadvantages being very high interest rate that your credit card carries

Pleae understand , none of this moratorium business is in consuner favour , it was ,is and will always remain in bank’s favour , they just found a new way to earn more interest

Please only take the moratorium only if you dearly need it and you genuinely cant pay

Hey Siddharth! Your blogs are great. Some queries –

    1. HDFC Regalia Website is showing that we can redeem 0.50/- in travel bookings and not 0.75/ Point. Has that been changed?
    2. I have a Regalia First Card with good history. I want to upgrade to a card with more reward value (can be a cashback card/reward point card). I can spend max 1.5 Lakh in a year including offline spends such that there is no joining/renewal fee. AMEX MRCC/Diner’s Club Int. will not work as i don’t have that great online spend and can’t swipe it in Kolkata/Bangalore. Is Regalia the only best for me then? Am I missing some better deals.?
