Hands on with Axis Bank Vistara Infinite Credit Card

By | March 28, 2018

I was initially planning for the axis privilege card (free for priority ac) but later changed my mind for the Vistara infinite card, as it gives new business class experience in Indian skies. You can find the actual review of the Vistara Infinite card in detail here: Axis Bank Vistara Infinite Credit Card review.

This article will be more about how I applied and got hands on it. It also covers the hands on experience of the benefits linked to the card.

Axis Bank Vistara Infinite Credit Card

Axis Bank Credit Card Application Process:

I’ve been waiting to apply for an axis bank card for a long time as I actually wanted an auto eligibility (which refreshes monthly) to kick in. I waited for almost an year but it never happened, despite being a priority customer. So I decided to go with manual application, which takes bit longer to process.

I called up my RM and they took the application along with income documents and I also attached my HDFC credit card statement to see if they can match the limit. They had no clue about it but just took the docs and I was said that I should have the card in 3 weeks approx.

Escalations: 10 days passed and I got no msg, no call, nothing. I started escalating through various channels, from RM, email support to social media. I got a call in a day from a guy at escalation desk and said that there was a delay in receiving my application at the Chennai unit. He promised that he will follow up the application closely until I get it on hand.

From then, it took another 20 days for the application to get processed and to receive it on hand. Even though I had to go through long process, it was made easy because the guy who took my case was updating me status every other day, literally. It was like having an Amex Centurion concierge 😀

Credit limit: I was surprised to see a grand limit on the card and it’s infact the highest among my existing cards. It’s no wonder that axis is generous with credit limits from various sources I know but when it comes to my account, I think decade old savings account + my previous credit card usage history with axis insta easy credit card all helped.

Unboxing Axis Bank Vistara Infinite Credit Card:

The card comes with a nice box, like Yesbank’s Yes First preferred and exclusive cards but is not so attractive as them. The card design is decent. Its a contactless card, but i was never able to use any of my contactless cards anywhere till date.

Posting of CV points:

The points for card spends gets posted to your Vistara account within ~4 days from the date of transaction. You even get the milestone vouchers at same time.

Axis bank and Vistara seem to have a wonderful integration in place as it’s probably the fastest card to post the points to account. To compare, HDFC Jet cards post the JPMiles in ~7 days and ICICI Jet Sapphiro takes ~2 months to post the JPMiles.

Note: For some reason, the welcome gift (business class voucher) gets added to the account only after ~2 months, while the spend based vouchers getting added on time.

Redemption of Vouchers:

Fortunately they started flying from Chennai just after i got the card. So I’ve already redeemed 2 business class vouchers and the redemption process was damn simple. Good part is, you can also let your friends and family members to use your vouchers. Just make sure to redeem the voucher 7 days prior to the date of travel.

You’re just a call away + 5 mins to get your ticket. The redemption charges are as low as ~Rs.500, which is very much acceptable. They ask to pay this fee only with your Vistara card, but the gateway technically accepts any card.

Club Vistara Gold:

What most of us don’t see as a direct value with this card is the Vistara Gold status. You get enrolled into club Vistara Gold within a week once your card gets approved. It comes with 3 upgrade vouchers and 2 lounge vouchers (for guests). Upgrade vouchers are worth a lot as this means another 3 business class tickets if you book on premium economy or, 3 premium economy tickets if you book on economy.

These upgrade/lounge vouchers gets added to account directly and they also send the physical kit to the registered address after a month, along with the personalised CV Gold Card.

Club Vistara Gold – Membership Card

Overall Value & Reward Rate:

You get a business class ticket for the joining fee of Rs.10k. Then, With a 7.5L spend, you get 3 business class tickets + 33,000 cv points. (Regular+bonus points). Along with the CV Gold status, here’s the total value you get:

  • 3 Business Class Tickets: 60,000 INR
  • 3 Upgrade Vouchers: 30,000 INR
  • 33,000 CV Points: 25,000 INR
  • Total value: 1,15,000 INR (15% reward rate)

While 15% reward rate is sweet, note that the reward rate mentioned here is based on the perceived value and not the actual. Which means, its not actual net savings.

Tips:

  1. You can access the KrisFlyer Gold lounge in Singapore as well as the Business Class SilverKris lounges overseas, if you fly Singapore Airlines, even on economy. This is CV Gold benefit.
  2. Value of 1 CV Point = 75Ps (approx. value, on domestic ). You can also get better value, as good as Rs.1 at times.
  3. You can in-fact get even higher value for the points, as great as Rs.2 if you redeem for Business Class in Singapore Airlines (SE Asia) as it needs only 25k CV Points with which you get a typical perceived value of 50,000 INR, though travel time in this sector is usually ~2 hrs.
  4. Upgrades when you use “Upgrade Vouchers” are confirmed only 1hr before flight. Its wise not to attempt using it in Delhi-Mumbai route as there would be many willing to actually pay for it, which reduces your chances of upgrade.

Bottomline:

A 15% reward rate is probably one of the best in industry and is no doubt that Axis Bank Vistara infinite card is a must have card in your pocket if you’re looking for domestic business class experience. The fee is also affordable and gives a great value for those in premium travel segment.

Credit cards are amazingly beautiful and highly attractive things. Infact it fascinates me deeply. I am always trying desperately to gather informations as much as much as possible . I can’t get it out of my head. I constantly think about it and I always talks with others about it and they thinks that I am crazy.
All the above are reasons that I browse your blogs at least 10 times a day and sometimes when you don’t post new contents or comments I read your old articles again and again and again. My excessive passion for credit cards has today resulted in crossing my limit and asking you
personal questions and I am really sorry for that.
Keep up the great task you are doing as your articles has become food for some people like me.

          Hi,
Yes they are very attractive and this website of Sid is very very unique and educative. Having said that we all need to be very careful in using them. I had burnt my fingers using credit cards ( 4) of them and it has taken me 12 years to get back by CIBIL score back on track and now again I have with great difficulty 4 cards again but I have been extra careful and try and make excess payments so that the amount is always negative.

Great review Siddharth. I recently started using Vistara signature card and have got great experience while redeeming points for Premium Economy tickets. I had always been a fan of Vistara’s PE but it looks like in recent times the service has detoriated to an extent. Would love to provide a detailed experience like yours sometime in future.

Bottomline is if you fly between the cities Vistara covers, these are the best cards in town.

    Hi Siddharth,

Congratulations for the new card. You have mentioned that you are a digital marketer and I am not sure if you are doing any other business.

In what kind of business, Were you able to send more amount by credit card? In general, I am just wondering in which industry we can pay a lot using credit card and do business.

    1. Siddharth Post author

In most businesses, you will have expenses, which can be put on card most of the time. This is possible with 90% of the businesses, Unless you deal with cash.

Again, its not just about business, you can also do it being an employee, preferably a one who travels more, so you can put the bills on your card and get it re-imbursed from company.

Great did, but 15% rate seems inflated, as if a marketing guy of the card would have advertised 😉

I think you must work out a realistic return % assuming upgrades and lounge access as ‘good to have’?

    Reply
    1. Siddharth Post author

Yes, its too good to be true. I’m still not considering lounge access to arrive at the number. Upgrades are really worth considering it.

As already mentioned in the article, its only a perceived value when it comes to Business class, as most of us don’t fly Biz class otherwise. While its not a net 15% savings, you still get that much value out of it.

I got the Vistara gold and upgrade vouchers along with Infinia. For some reason they have sent the envelope twice and I have now got twice the no of upgrade vouchers and lounge access cards. Yet to use them though.

But Vistara gold did turn out to be handy in one of my recent travel where I was overweight by almost twice the permissible limit.

Hence there are a lot of other intangibles to which it is difficult to assign value :). Do update your experience with Vistara Business class while I plan to get my next flight upgraded to PE.

    Hi Siddharth
    Thanks for the review.
    Was looking forward to it.
From South India, except Chennai Port Blair, the best Vistara routings are all via Delhi.
Second half of 2018 Vistara may start off South East and Japan operations. That should give these companies branded cards all India traction.
I hope they go fully international by end 2018.
Till then I guess I will bide my time.
In my book they have it in them to become India’s answer to SA/QA.
Jet long haul better up their game in fast forward mode!

Tried to use upgrade voucher but it’s possible only before 1 hour of flight = if someone pays for ticket in upgraded class, you won’t be able to use upgrade voucher.
Lounge access voucher was also for Delhi t3 only. They couldn’t offer mote than sandwiches at 5pm as I m vegetarian.
    That’s my experience

Thats sad, i thought i could use it anytime before to get confirmed upgrade. 1hr is too less. Sure about it?

Upgrades should be fine unless you fly between DEL-BOM as they may have 100% occupancy. But rest routes I’ve been on had only 50% occupancy on biz class.

Let me share an experience I had with Vistara. This was well before, I got this Axis Bank Vistara infinite credit card. I’m not a frequent Vistara flyer since they do not serve any of my preferred routes. Most of my flights are with Jet Airways.

I had Vistara silver status which I got from my HDFC Regalia. They had issued one upgrade and lounge access voucher each at that time. When I got upgraded to JetPrivilege Platinum, I applied for a club vistara status match to Gold. It was just for 3 months and I was again issued one upgrade and one lounge access voucher.

I booked a return premium economy flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi. I wanted to use both the upgraded vouchers in this trip if seats are available. And also wanted to visit the Vistara lounge at Delhi T3 using the lounge access voucher.

I reached Ahmedabad airport 2.5 hours before the scheduled departure. Enquired at the premium economy counter about the availability of business class seats for upgrade. Yes. The process was smooth. They had vacant seats, I shared voucher number and I got upgrade. The upgrade process was smooth and I even acknowledged it in the twitter page of Vistara.

on my return trip, I had plans to use the second upgrade voucher and also to visit the Vistara lounge at Delhi T3 using the lounge access voucher. I reached airport 2 hours before departure. At the premium economy counter, after a lot of confusion, they informed me that upgrades are allowed only 1 hour before departure and booking window was still open. Ohh… Ahmedabad team had no such issues and Delhi team got some restrictions… I’m asked to check with the lounge people about the upgrade 1 hour before departure. Exactly one hour before departure, I checked with them. The reply I got was great. They can upgrade me but they will not be able to provide me meal, since it is late… Wait… What??? Then what is the point in upgrading and wasting a voucher. They only told me to wait till one hour before departure and then they tells me that they cannot provide me meal since I’m late… I outrightly rejected the upgrade proposal…

Vistara lounge is just basic… Nothing special. One of the advantage is that their screens will show Vistara Flights only. So you dont have to search for your flight among various airlines. And They had their own photo shooting going on inside the lounge at the time of my visit which was limiting the mobility of people inside the lounge.

I applied for Axis Bank Vistara Infinite card as I wanted to shift my expenses from a Non-upgradable SBI card. Again, the business class tickets and miles will become handy for family trips. Further, I feel pretty sure that Vistara network will grow.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Did they mention anywhere about the 1hr thing for upgrade? If not, we can raise the case, probably to social media to get it done.

Btw, No meal on flight for the delay? That’s too bad!

Vistara lounge was good in my experience, especially the service. Will review it shortly.

Yes, i noted too on website, about the 1hr thing. Updated article accordingly.

      2. Amit

I have upgraded twice to biz class as I fly premium economy. You are correct Delhi Bombay is tough due to occupancy. And the 1 hour rule is approximately.ately correct. All planes have 8 biz class seats, so if u have an odd hour flight to low occupancy route they will upgrade even two hours earlier else they will ask u to wait till sales close. I m based in Delhi so it suits me well.

I spoke to Axis Bank officials regarding eligibility: (at least one of the below to be met)

    1. Net take home salary should be at least Rs 50,000. ITR is not taken.
    2. Frequent traveler in Vistara. Gold status or above or at least flew 2 times in the past 6 months or so.
    3. Axis Bank savings account is a must if the above two conditions are not met.
    4. If none of the above 3 conditions are met, then they check if the company you work is listed in their database to issue card.

one more point to add…Axis Bank issue their other credit cards at selected cities only. but it is not applicable to Vistara cards.

I don’t think you require a gold status for getting this card as I was a silver member only, which was offered with HDFC regalia two years back.

    Hi Siddharth,
Good post. I had one issue which may be off topic. I want to apply for this card. But I think I have too many cards. Will it be cause for rejection ? I currently own a HDFC Diners Premium(1.90L) , ICICI jet Sapphiro (1.25L), Citi PremierMiles(7.8L) an IndusInd Indulge(I have the option to set the limit. Approved till 15L. Never exceeded 2.5L) , SBI Elite(4.5L) and AMEX Gold charge(I don’t know how to find limit. Net banking is pretty bad.) . (Sorry too many). Also suggest any cards that I should close in case I should to get approved for Vistara Infinite card? I also have a line of credit with Citibank which comes on my CIBIL. Also, my SBI Elite card is coming for renewal. I have missed the 10L target by a short amount. SBI won’t waive the joining fee. Is it wise to keep that card or should I close it as no joining bonus. Or should I downgrade to Prime.

Another query I had that my Jet Cards are free as I am platinum. I was lucky to get a status match to gold and was able to get platinum on vistara also. Will this card be free or still I need to pay 1000+GST?

Hoping to get some expert advice by Sid and some other community guys!

    Hi Sid,
As you have mentioned above that you had attached a Hdfc Bank Credit Card Statement as supporting document. Can u pls confirm the credit limit percentage ration on your Axis Bank credit card as compare to hdfc Bank ….

Usually banks issue a new credit card with 20% – 25% higher Limit as compared to the existing other bank credit card.

Hi. Quick question. Will an add-on card also receive CV Gold status?

No… Add-on card will always have your Vistara account linked to it. Miles will be added to your account only.

The voucher against the joining fee takes some time, like 2 months.

    @Mouli/@Sid,

I think this timeline is varied, since for me I got the welcome ticket quite quickly within ~2 weeks of receiving the card itself and the statement was not even generated for me to pay the joining fees.

But on the other hand, the renewal PE ticket for my Vistara Signature card was not issued to me at all, may be they lost the track during my card upgrade, so after the upgrade I had to send them a mail regarding it and I got the renewal ticket after 3 months but guess what, I was issued Business class ticket, even though the renewal benefit was for Signature card. May be system automatically decides which voucher to be issued based on current relationship which at that point was Vistara Infinite.

@anoop.e.s. out of context of your comment at top regarding eligibility. What docs you gave while applying and how you got eligible?

I had applied through Vistara website. The benefit is that first call was from Hyderabad from the team exclusively dealing Vistara card applications.

Next call came from Ahmedabad as I am presently working in the state of Gujarat. The executive there sent me application form over courier as I am workign very far from Ahmedabad. I signed on it and attached my KYC documents, 3 months salary slips and 6 months salary account statement. In addition to that, I attached my vistara account statement (though nobody asked me to do so, but I felt it will be an added advanatage) which was showing merely Three activities at that time (Two flights undertaken and one transfer of reward points from my HDFC card).

I had clearly communicated to the executive that I want Infinite varaint only and don’t need signature or platinum versions. Thats it. I got the card approved. Few days later, got add on card for my wife too.

Lucky you Anoop. I applied for it from Axis Bank website and local bank executives would not move my application forward without a printed copy of Aadhaar card. I am very strictly against sharing my Aadhaar card in printed form and those idiots didn’t know how to do eKYC. Finally decided to stop chasing them. May be some day in another city, but not Delhi or Noida.
