Most jewellers in Pune charge extra 1.5% for accepting credit cards. With this offer, it finally makes sense to buy jewelry with credit card

Kalyan doesn’t charge extra on Credit Card.
We just bought some gold from them and they charged the same bill value for cash vs card.

Though i didnt know the minimum of 15k bill value for reward and missed out on that.

I received this offer on mail as well (postal!).
HDFC also has a running offer for 5X rp at Kalyan Jewellers, with limit of 15,000 rp. Double-dipping can potentially mean a good additional 25K rp!

Regarding your plans to double-dip..the T&C for 10k RPs offer on 4&5 Nov state the following

Max cap of 10,000 Reward points applicable at promotion level no two offers can be combined during the offer period

Actually my experience in Delhi is somewhat different. Many local jewellers and all the established brands (Senco, Malabar etc) dont charge anything extra on CC swipes. with 10x, it is a sureshot bet.

Do you mean DCB concierge? I called phone banking and they had no such information, they said that just read the T&C on the deals page to make sure your transaction is eligible.

The star for this year in terms of offer is HDFC by a long margin. Pleasantly surprised by the HSBC offer as well. Life’s good for shoppers this season!

Is it over and above the apparel and electronic offer or a total of 10000 points during the complete offer period

This would work even for gold coins purchases. And also for in-store spends, it would be determined basis their merchant category registration with respective card network? For Jewellery stores, I believe there would not be any other categorization and all of them ideally should be registered as Jewellers.

Please confirm as I will be going ahead and making purchase from a Jewellers store in Tier 3 town.

Also who is ideally the right person from the store to get this thing clarified??

Did you call DCB concierge to verify this offer? Phone banking had no information, they could not confirm.

How much was his annual income and how much he spend annually ? How much investment he has with HDFC ?

    Hi Sid,

Spoke with DCB Customer care. They said that this offer is valid for all HDFC Bank Cardholders however it is valid only for only in-store spends(offer has been listed under instore offers on Smartbuy website). Also, that it is valid only for jewellery and not gold or silver coins. Not sure how the bank is able to figure out from the merchant/transaction that the spend made was on Jewellery and not coins.

Anyone aware if they are able to find out transaction specific details from the merchant and get to know that the purchase was coins and not jewellery?

I don’t believe they would be able to differentiate. They would not get the purchase details from the store. I believe they are saying this just to discourage people from buying coins

Customer care said that we can buy anything including coins. But only from shops and not online. They will differentiate basis the merchant registration. I am taking a risk of buying gold coin today. Its too tempting to pass.

        Not worth risking.

They “may” as usual skip adding points and when you ask, they’ll request a bill. If they see coin purchase on bill, then they’ll simply refuse.

            Why risk with jewellery offer?
I buy gold coin from Flipkart via Smartbuy every month and get 10x points like clock work.
