10 Best Debit Cards with Complimentary Airport Lounge Access in India

By | May 26, 2022

Many people these days are chasing credit cards for lounge access and what most of them forget is that even debit cards can give them access to most domestic lounges in India. Mastercard in India is known for its generous lounge access program. Visa & Rupay also has affiliated lounges but not that popular as Mastercard for time being.

Debit Cards with Complimentary Airport Lounge Access in India

Most of the Mastercard debit cards issued by Private Banks like Axis bank, HDFC bank comes with minimum of 2 Lounge access per quarter. While debit cards are easy to get, it can also serve as a backup card for lounge access when your primary credit card doesn’t work, like i faced recently in Plaza Premium Lounge at Delhi Domestic Airport where there was a technical problem with Diners network.

Here are some of the popular Debit cards with complimentary lounge Access in India, as far as i know. There might be few that i have missed. Feel free to add them to the list by mentioning the card type/Bank in comments below.

1. HDFC Jet Airways Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Rs.750+ST
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

Do you travel domestic often? This is the hidden gem for Unlimited (changed to 2/Qtr) lounge access.

2. HDFC EasyShop Platinum Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Free (for Preferred/Imperia Accounts)
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

I’ve this card on Mastercard Platform with HDFC Preferred Banking and it works fairly well. Note that the regular Visa variant may-not get you the access.

3. HDFC Times Points Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Free
  • Limits: 1/Quarter

A very much hyped debit card. It has no big value than just name and shining looks.

4. Axisbank Prime Titanium Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Rs.500+ST
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

I’ve this card and it passes well. I prefer to use this whenever available because they’re charging me a Debit card fee and I want them to pay for something on my behalf. 😀

5. Axis Priority Platinum Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Free for Priority Customers
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

The card is free for Priority Customers. Axis cards all look almost similar, Pinkish.

6. ICICI Bank Coral Debit Card

  • Variant: Mastercard (Visa variant may have issues)
  • Joining Fee: Rs.599+Tax
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

My friend used this coral debit card couple of times and it works pretty well.

7. SBI Platinum Debit Card

  • Variant: Visa/Mastercard
  • Joining Fee: Rs.300+Tax
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

SBI Usually issues the Classic debit card by default, so if you want this variant, you need to place a request for the same.

8. Paytm Rupay Debit Card

  • Variant: Rupay
  • Joining Fee: ~Rs.120
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

One of the cheapest way to access airport lounges. But, may not be accepted everywhere.

9. Indusind Signature Exclusive Debit Card

  • Variant: Visa Signature
  • Joining Fee: Rs.299+ST
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

I’ve used this card personally and it works fine. Though Visa lounges are limited in India. Remember, this comes only with Indusind Exclusive account.

10. HDFC RuPay Premium Debit Card

  • Variant: Rupay
  • Joining Fee: Rs.150+ST
  • Limits: 2/Quarter

A decent one. If you’ve HDFC A/c, you may ask the bank to issue Rupay card instead of their regular debit card.

Here are few more cards: ICICI Wealth Management Debit card, Citi Gold Debit card, Yes First Debit card, SBI Wealth Card.

Pro Tips:

  1. Always prefer Mastercard over Visa as the number of affiliated lounges in Mastercard is higher than Visa.
  2. You can know the free access available on your Mastercard by calling ‘MasterCard For You’ toll free helpline: 1800-102-6263 (Visa donot have such toll free no.)

I’ve visited most of the domestic departure Airport lounges affiliated with Mastercard and Visa and you can find the list below along with the reviews of each 🙂

Overall, lounge access is a great feature on debit cards, only downside is that it has access only to lounges located in India. You have to rely on credit cards for International Lounge access. Check out 15 best credit cards for complimentary lounge access.

Hdfc Titanium Debit Card also entitles you for 2 visits per quarter. Keeping in mind that the yearly fees is just 250rs(excluding taxes), its a bang for the lounge access it offers, compared to titanium royale whose annual fees is rs500(almost double the annual fees of titanium and also offers 2 visits/quarter). HDFC regulated the number of visits per card this year. Last year, titanium card allowed its customers to avail unlimited visits per year and as i was a frequent domestic and international traveller i had used this card almost 15 times in domestic terminals as well as international terminals in indian airports.

Thanks for your exhaustive knowledge and inputs provided by you, I always visit your site for checking various facilities provided by HDFC Bank on their Credit & Debit Cards. I hold the HDFC Regalia Credit & Platinum Debit Cards due to having a Priority Account with them. I’m currently using ICICI Coral Debit Card which offers 2 free lounge access per quarter. I have a few queries:
    1. Unlimited lounge access is available on HDFC Jet Airways DEBIT Card only or also on HDFC Jet Airways Credit Cards?
    2. If it is available on HDFC Jet Airways Credit Cards also, which one would be a wise choice (among Diners/World/Platinum/Titanium) for a frequent domestic traveller?
    3. I already owe 2 credit cards. Will addition of 1 or 2 more credit cards adversely affect my CIBIL score?
    4. If u were asked to choose only 1 card based on lounge access facility, which one would you go for?

    Hi Siddharth,

I have followed your blog for sometime and it is fantastic, but this is the first time I am posting.

I wouldnt advise swapping Diners for Regalia cos of the point structure, also with Regalia you have max 12 access in a year. In case Ms. Singla’s husband travels very often, it may be a disadvantage. Better option would be to upgrade if possible to DC Black and explore possibility of some other non-HDFC card (Master World or Visa Signature variant) which allows 2/Qtr access. (as HDFC doesnt give two premium cards)

    Hi Siddharth

Thanks for this fantastic blog, it’s really helpful.

After reading your blog, I check the HDFC site and found out that Jet DC and Easyshop Business Debit Card are providing free domestic lounge access in some cities. I then called CC and confirmed from them and they told me the same.

But i still have my doubts, as the website shows valid till 31/12/2016, although CC told me that ignore this and it will be updated with time. Also I am not sure if I can specifically ask for MC variant as i am applying through Netbanking and it doesn’t give any option to select the agency.

    What are your advice mate?

I want to go for free card and Business one comes free for me whereas the JET DC charges me 500/- plus ST.

I don’t need unlimited lounge access as i already have a few cards which also provide me lounge access in domestic airport and for International lounges i have Priority Pass.

Slightly off topic, do you have any idea if Regalia Card (and Regalia First Card) provide lounge access in itself? (Not with Priority Pass)

    Thanks

Also I have got a Jet Privilege Card, as it is free for first year to me i will use it for that time and then hot-list it before they charge me for it and then choose an appropriate card again.

I have applied for the Business Card as well, on my current account. And am waiting to get my hands on it, hopefully I’ll get it before 14th so that i will be able to check if it works or not on 15th itself and will update here.

Lounge access Limit of two per quarter is set by most of the low end credit cards. If I have two Visa cards issued by ICICI and Stan chart banks. will they restrict the limit to two visits on both the cards or it will be available two visits per card. I heard from some one Visa tries to restrict two visits per qtr on all the visa cards.

Do you know if HDFC Jet Airways Debit Card still have unlimited lounge access? I did not find details on the website. If so I am planning to get a new HDFC back account, use it as my salary account and ask HDFC for this card.

Also anything good about Deutsche Bank cards? I currently have my salary account there. I asked them for a debit card that gave me lounge access and they suggested me to use an AMEX card. 😀

Btw, I have an AMEX Gold Charge Card but find out equally useless. No lounge access even with a 5k+ of annual fee.

HDFC has drastically changed the MC lounge access program. WEF from 15 june 2017, only Jet Airways DC, Platinum DC and Times Point DC are eligible for the program. And the worst part is they have cut the visits sharply. For jet airways DC they have reduced the lounge visits from unlimited to 2/quarter, for platinum, 4 to 2/quarter. Seriously planning to move to rupay dc. It is widely accepted in India and has a ridiculously low annual fee plus the same 2/quarter free visits. The only reason why I was holding a platinum DC was for its generous 4 visits/ quarter limit. If you are a transit passenger you can make use of this feature very well. Guess HDFC does not like its customers to use all of the features it provides. So they are reverting back like a coward. Cheap move HDFC… cheap move…

Typically the reason is, our aviation industry is booming and India is now 3rd largest aviation market in domestic air passenger traffic. All these leads to more passengers and with blogs like this, lounge concept is getting viral and so MasterCard/Visa is loosing a lot of money on this. Hence they put more limits to reduce the free usage 🙂

    Hi Siddharth,

Thank you for such insightful info on Debit Cards with Complimentary Airport Lounge Access.
I was surprised to find out that I have few of these cards but have never used them for lounge access.

Can you let me know what do I need to do to get such access? Do I need to directly go to the Lounge (say jet airways) and flash my Axis Priority Platinum Debit Card? Are there any more formalities?

I would eagerly await your reply.

    Dear Sid

I recently opened Yes First savings account and got YES First Mastercard World debit card. As Yes bank has tie up with mastercard only, so no need to worry about getting issued Visa card. Box was as good as it can be.
Though I don’t own any Yes bank CC as they don’t issue CC in UP, I bet the box I recd better than even Yes First CC box, as it contained a beautiful Leather card organiser also. And the card is no less beauty with embossed details. I will share the box look with you shortly.
Regarding the benefits this YES First debit card should stay right at the top of your list considering the following benefits–
    1. 3 lounge access per qtr
    2. Complementary 1 pm golf course access n lessons
    3. LTF
    4. Fuel fee waiver. Not limited to 1%
    5. Demat annual maintenance charges waived
    6. High chances of approval of YES First CC
    and many more.

Reward points percentage is nothing to write much. Its very less.
Only thing is that they ask for 5 lacs cheque while opening the YES First ac and you have to maintain it at minimum that level to enjoy these benefits.
I will give more details once I use it in future.

Hi my axis priority debit was due for renewal and I got Visa platinum cards which normally as per visa website doesn’t have lounge access. It’s only in signature and infinite. But in axis website it mentions 2 visits for visa or MasterCard specifically. So I assume it has access has anyone tried. Other thing is now when looking at visa website some 20 cities lounges are there earlier it used to be 5. Rupay also 21 cities. so can u verify if all lounges now accept all 3 or is there any difference.

Hi Sid, any fresh review planned for 2022 on best debit cards with/without lounge? The debit card market seems to have undergone several changes with players like IDFC, HDFC, Yesfirst, RBL, AU, Axis introducing competitive variants. Some maybe tied with privileged banking while some maybe available at a fee, but do offer great benefits.

My Citigold World Debit card has been giving me unlimited domestic airport lounge visits for the past few years. Too bad it didn’t make your list. Maybe its because its going to be wold to Axis who may come in with the caps.

    Hello Sid,

    Thanks for the informative blog.

Any clue as to how lounge access will be counted for joint account holders. Eg if 6 visits are allowed is it per card holder or per account holder?
