Get Your CIBIL Score for FREE with Full Report, Every Year

By | February 7, 2017

I’ve been thinking for a long time that its so unfair that CIBIL charges Rs.550 to know your CIBIL score and report. Anyways they’re making money with lenders and financial institutions and i wonder why they charge the individuals too, at-least they should have considered to have a less price tag. Its time to regulate this.

Back in September 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had mandated every Credit Bureau in the country to release one free full credit report (FFCR) to every individual from January 1, 2017. It is supposed to be a detailed report carrying the credit score, among other things.

Free CIBIL score

So now you can apply for it once a year between January and December from one of the three credit information company’s (CIC), i.e., Equifax, Experian and CIBIL TransUnion.

How to get CIBIL Score for Free:

  1. Goto this link
  2. Scroll down to see the link to free report below the big “Monitor Now” button
  3. Click on that, fill the form and authenticate yourself to get your FREE CIBIL score and report.
  4. It hardy takes a minute or two and i was able to check the score with details without any issue.

Its as simple as that. Glad to see RBI is taking measures for the welfare of people to this extent.

Checking your CIBIL report once a year is a must thing to do as it helps you to find whats happening with your credit scores which is quite important if you’re planning to take credit cards and loans in the future, especially credit cards for people like us 😀

My Experience with CIBIL:

I had a very bad experience with CIBIL few months back wherein they weren’t able to issue the report after payment due to some page redirection issues post payment and their email/phone support is useless that they gave no proper response. They reply to support emails after a WEEK and their phone lines are not in good condition MOST of the time.

It’s a long story and i finally ended up raising a dispute/chargeback against CIBIL to get things done. This makes me realize one of the major benefits of credit cards yet one more time – the Strong Buyer Protection. Wish a company with such a reputation delivers a better service.

P.S. Thanks to Bibhash & Nandhakumar for your comments on other article about this update on free CIBIL score availability.

So did you get your Free CIBIL report? Feel free to share your experience below 🙂

    Hi Sid,

Thanks for the info. I saw my report immediately after seeing this article. My score is above 810 :). I saw there was a discrepancy and raised dispute too.

    Once again thank you.

    Hello Siddharth,

FIrstly your blog has been really helpful for me to take advanced tips for credit card users.
I have 3-4 credit cards and I worked (as PO) in a nationalized bank (resigned and blogging now) still I follow your blog (only) for updates in this industry.

Free Cibil score is really cool news even for my banker friends. I guess they (Cibil) should be struggling now to sell their paid products. Because I see no difference in free Cibil and paid Cibil except added monitoring. But even the free report is available annually : )

will get in touch soon again.

Yes I saw that they are offering this one report for free. Got my wife’s CIBIL report for free. On looking at the report I saw that one of her longest standing accounts from HDFC Credit cards is not being shown in the report. What should we do? Shall we contact HDFC if they are actually reporting to CIBIL or not. Please guide.

You got to raise a dispute with CIBIL in such cases, also email HDFC in parallel about the issue.

I can raise dispute with CIBIL only about things that are already there on the report. This account is not reflecting in the CIBIL report at all. In that case, how to raise a dispute? Also, whom should I contact in HDFC? Credit card customer support?

I’ve no experience in this, but by giving the a/c number, CIBIL might be able to track.
Yes, start with vannila HDFC CC support,
which then needs to be to escalated as they will anyways have no clue as to what you’re talking about 😀

It is asking to subscribe for one of the three options and subsequently asking for payment…

    CIBIL Score and Report( 550/-)
    Bi-Annual Subscription – 2 Score Reports( 800/-)
    Quarterly Subscription – 4 Score Reports ( 1200/-)

Yes mate. Our application for the Yesbank Exclusive Card was rejected too. My wife applied through “Card-On-Card” basis. She fulfilled all the criteria and had a great CIBIL Score of around 820 but still the application was rejected. We have a good relationship value with Yesbank and after this incident, I am seriously considering ending my relationship with the bank totally.

Were you able to find the reason why it was rejected?
I could see many readers posting application rejection in past 1 week. I wonder whether they changed the eligibility criteria or something.

          Reply
          1. Abhishek Roy

No. They didn’t disclose the reason at all. What they said is that this is their top of the line card and hence the application has been reviewed accordingly and thus they were not able to offer this card. If they were still looking at income criteria and all, I wonder why they even came up with the card on card application feature. Getting this card through salary channel is almost impossible in India since it puts forward an eligibility criteria of a mammoth Rs 50L/annum which is extremely rare as a salaried person in India.

          2. Siddharth Post author

            That’s sad news.
So taking preferred card and then upgrading is the only way now i guess.

For members who already have registered with CIBIL and paid fees to view report earlier should use another email to register again and view report for free.

When I used same email id, clicked on free report, it was showing the older report (which I got when I paid). Again I registered with different mail and the report got refreshed…

I had already subscribed for their yearly plan. However I could view my wife’s credit score for free through your article. CIBIL had my wife’s name messed up. I don’t know how to get it corrected because as soon as I raised the dispute they closed the it asking me to contact the financial institution for the change in the name.

Glad to know my wife’s score was 868 while she is holding just one credit card from last 5 years though she had a home loan & credit card from HDFC which was already closed. I have as many as 13 cards and 3 loans and mine is 50 points lesser than her haha.

If you have already registered with CIBIL earlier, no need to give different email. You can login to mycibil account and get free report from my account section. I just got mine now like this. My score now stands at 825, increased from 816 earlier.

Also if some of your cards are not reflecting in the report, that’s because the card account may not have been linked with your PAN number. My Citibank cards were missing earlier and now they appear after updating PAN number with card accounts.

    Hi Siddharth,

Everytime i write to you i feel really thankful for all the information, tips and tricks you provide here. Your site is bookmarked for me and i visit it everyday. Todays surprise was the CIBIL article. Few things i wanted to know:

    1. They are showing my cibil score as 820 and there are loads of information in the view report tab. Is there any way that information can be downloaded? When i go to history section it says FACR report availed. Is it a report or is it just the score that is free and not paid.

    2. In the account information under view report some months are marked as XXX. What does that mean?

    3. My amex card number is incomplete but cannot raise a dispute to rectify.

Also before getting your update on the free report i could find another way to view CIBIL score. I have consumer durable loans from Bajaj Finance. Their mobile app gives me my cibil score….but it shows 817 and the website shows 820….not that i’m losing my sleep over it.

    thanks

      2. Check out “Understand my report” section for codes and descriptions. Its normal.
      3. Try to email them. The card/ac number you see might be different, just make sure it shows the correct activity.

XXX means that on those months there have been no transactions on the card and hence no bill paid. And in the months in which you indeed spent something and paid within the due date without delay, you’ll see a ‘0’ for that. Hope this helps.

    Hi Siddharth
So recently I recieved my ICICI platinum credit card for lifetime free(the bank only called me and told me it’s a pre approved card and I’ll get an excellent credit limit). However, as pathetic as it can get, I applied for master card and informed them multiple times to make sure I recieved master card, but I ended up recieving visa. 2nd thing, they f***ed up my mobile number so badly, thankfully I recieved my card somehow and changed my phone number. And to my surprise, the credit limit was just 55000₹ which is lower than my monthly salary!! Now I just want to close this card. Coz I tool this to purchase a laptop on emi(1 lakh), since it was lifetime free and pre-approved, I didn’t care about points (already have diners rewardz with 75k lomit)
Plz tell me is there any ICICI online portal where I can check my spends for this card, outstanding amount etc(like hdfc has in netbanking)

On home page of icici bank, move cursor to Login, click Personal, NRI and Young Stars, Now click Login Now, here on right side under ” May I Help You”, click New User? Get UserID, here click under serial number 2 on “Click Here To Proceed”, now select credit card radio button, enter credit card number and click “GO”. You are all done. Now to generate password, follow the link JUST BELOW THE “Click Here To Proceed” after receiving username. Its now done!

In my report one of the credit cards ‘total credit limit’ field is blank!
    Is it normal/ok?

      1. Abhishek Roy

But because of that, the whole reason of having a higher credit limit to decrease the credit utilization ratio and thereby improving the CIBIL Score fails. HDFC is the laziest of the lot and never discloses the credit limit. Citibank is very good in this respect and invariably reports the credit limit.

It requires some reference number by the bank. But, it does not look like any of my recent reference numbers are working.

Cibil just gives the report once in a year for free but this way we can access the report for every CC application.

Can any one confirm that checking cibil monthly with the third party sites like paisa bazaar or other’s can lower our cibil ?? Is it true ?

    Hi Siddharth,

What could be reasons for difference between cibil and experian. My cibil is 766 whereas by experian is 860. What to do to improve cibil score.

Once again thanks for this article. Checked my report last year as well as this year. (Score increased from 783 -> 814).
I will sometimes also use HDFC method as recently got the account too.
