I’ve been thinking for a long time that its so unfair that CIBIL charges Rs.550 to know your CIBIL score and report. Anyways they’re making money with lenders and financial institutions and i wonder why they charge the individuals too, at-least they should have considered to have a less price tag. Its time to regulate this.
Back in September 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had mandated every Credit Bureau in the country to release one free full credit report (FFCR) to every individual from January 1, 2017. It is supposed to be a detailed report carrying the credit score, among other things.
So now you can apply for it once a year between January and December from one of the three credit information company’s (CIC), i.e., Equifax, Experian and CIBIL TransUnion.
How to get CIBIL Score for Free:
- Goto this link
- Scroll down to see the link to free report below the big “Monitor Now” button
- Click on that, fill the form and authenticate yourself to get your FREE CIBIL score and report.
- It hardy takes a minute or two and i was able to check the score with details without any issue.
Its as simple as that. Glad to see RBI is taking measures for the welfare of people to this extent.
Checking your CIBIL report once a year is a must thing to do as it helps you to find whats happening with your credit scores which is quite important if you’re planning to take credit cards and loans in the future, especially credit cards for people like us 😀
- Is your CIBIL score less? here are 7 Proven Ways to increase your CIBIL score to 800+
My Experience with CIBIL:
I had a very bad experience with CIBIL few months back wherein they weren’t able to issue the report after payment due to some page redirection issues post payment and their email/phone support is useless that they gave no proper response. They reply to support emails after a WEEK and their phone lines are not in good condition MOST of the time.
It’s a long story and i finally ended up raising a dispute/chargeback against CIBIL to get things done. This makes me realize one of the major benefits of credit cards yet one more time – the Strong Buyer Protection. Wish a company with such a reputation delivers a better service.
P.S. Thanks to Bibhash & Nandhakumar for your comments on other article about this update on free CIBIL score availability.
So did you get your Free CIBIL report? Feel free to share your experience below 🙂
Hi Sid,
Thanks for the info. I saw my report immediately after seeing this article. My score is above 810 :). I saw there was a discrepancy and raised dispute too.
Once again thank you.
Regards,
Mahendra
Great, glad it helped you.
Hello Siddharth,
FIrstly your blog has been really helpful for me to take advanced tips for credit card users.
I have 3-4 credit cards and I worked (as PO) in a nationalized bank (resigned and blogging now) still I follow your blog (only) for updates in this industry.
Free Cibil score is really cool news even for my banker friends. I guess they (Cibil) should be struggling now to sell their paid products. Because I see no difference in free Cibil and paid Cibil except added monitoring. But even the free report is available annually : )
will get in touch soon again.
Shailendra M
Great!
Thanks for the kind words. Good to know that the articles are helpful 🙂
Yes I saw that they are offering this one report for free. Got my wife’s CIBIL report for free. On looking at the report I saw that one of her longest standing accounts from HDFC Credit cards is not being shown in the report. What should we do? Shall we contact HDFC if they are actually reporting to CIBIL or not. Please guide.
You got to raise a dispute with CIBIL in such cases, also email HDFC in parallel about the issue.
I can raise dispute with CIBIL only about things that are already there on the report. This account is not reflecting in the CIBIL report at all. In that case, how to raise a dispute? Also, whom should I contact in HDFC? Credit card customer support?
I’ve no experience in this, but by giving the a/c number, CIBIL might be able to track.
Yes, start with vannila HDFC CC support,
which then needs to be to escalated as they will anyways have no clue as to what you’re talking about 😀
I have done the same. contacted CIBIL as well as HDFC Credit Card Support. Let’s see what’s in for me.
Thanks for the information Siddharth.
Keep up your good work

It is asking to subscribe for one of the three options and subsequently asking for payment…
CIBIL Score and Report( 550/-)
Bi-Annual Subscription – 2 Score Reports( 800/-)
Quarterly Subscription – 4 Score Reports ( 1200/-)
Don’t click on “monitor now” find the small line below the button and read the info on each step. They just made it bit tricky 🙂
That’s correct, in fact CIBIL is marketing their paid subscription very agressively! Even I couldn’t notice the small link below the Monitor Now button. TBH I was too excited to check my score before read your entire post 😛
very nice sid, my score is 810.
it shows stale some AMEX MMT card for me, which i have already trashed.
looks like i need to raise a dispute??
Yes, probably.
If it was closed within past 3 months, you might need to wait for a while.
thank you. Surprisingly i have a score of more than 800, an enquiry by Yes Bank and still my application was rejected by them. Most probably they have misplaced my docs and file.
Possibly, you might need to check with the bank for the reason for rejection.
Yes mate. Our application for the Yesbank Exclusive Card was rejected too. My wife applied through “Card-On-Card” basis. She fulfilled all the criteria and had a great CIBIL Score of around 820 but still the application was rejected. We have a good relationship value with Yesbank and after this incident, I am seriously considering ending my relationship with the bank totally.
Were you able to find the reason why it was rejected?
I could see many readers posting application rejection in past 1 week. I wonder whether they changed the eligibility criteria or something.
No. They didn’t disclose the reason at all. What they said is that this is their top of the line card and hence the application has been reviewed accordingly and thus they were not able to offer this card. If they were still looking at income criteria and all, I wonder why they even came up with the card on card application feature. Getting this card through salary channel is almost impossible in India since it puts forward an eligibility criteria of a mammoth Rs 50L/annum which is extremely rare as a salaried person in India.
That’s sad news.
So taking preferred card and then upgrading is the only way now i guess.
Hi Siddharth:
THANK YOU for this article, and for this Website. It is quite informative. I have just now obtained my free CIBIL TRANSUNION Score.
Glad i was able to help 🙂
Sid,
For members who already have registered with CIBIL and paid fees to view report earlier should use another email to register again and view report for free.
When I used same email id, clicked on free report, it was showing the older report (which I got when I paid). Again I registered with different mail and the report got refreshed…
That’s an interesting info, thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks Sid.
I had already subscribed for their yearly plan. However I could view my wife’s credit score for free through your article. CIBIL had my wife’s name messed up. I don’t know how to get it corrected because as soon as I raised the dispute they closed the it asking me to contact the financial institution for the change in the name.
Glad to know my wife’s score was 868 while she is holding just one credit card from last 5 years though she had a home loan & credit card from HDFC which was already closed. I have as many as 13 cards and 3 loans and mine is 50 points lesser than her haha.
868 is an AWESOME score!
OMG, 13 cards is yet another crazy number 😀
And we thought we had many cards.
Dear Sidharth ,
Please help me my credit score is 777 ,can I get any credit card.
MD shahabuddin
777 is a good score too, you can easily get a credit card.
Hi Sid,
If you hold an add-on card. does that feature on the CIBIL report? and if there is any late payment, does it affect the score of the primary card holder or the add-on card holder or both?
Its not updated on CIBIL and it affects only the primary cardholder.
If you have already registered with CIBIL earlier, no need to give different email. You can login to mycibil account and get free report from my account section. I just got mine now like this. My score now stands at 825, increased from 816 earlier.
Also if some of your cards are not reflecting in the report, that’s because the card account may not have been linked with your PAN number. My Citibank cards were missing earlier and now they appear after updating PAN number with card accounts.
Thanks for sharing insightful information, will get it added to the article shortly 🙂
Hi Siddharth,
Everytime i write to you i feel really thankful for all the information, tips and tricks you provide here. Your site is bookmarked for me and i visit it everyday. Todays surprise was the CIBIL article. Few things i wanted to know:
1. They are showing my cibil score as 820 and there are loads of information in the view report tab. Is there any way that information can be downloaded? When i go to history section it says FACR report availed. Is it a report or is it just the score that is free and not paid.
2. In the account information under view report some months are marked as XXX. What does that mean?
3. My amex card number is incomplete but cannot raise a dispute to rectify.
Also before getting your update on the free report i could find another way to view CIBIL score. I have consumer durable loans from Bajaj Finance. Their mobile app gives me my cibil score….but it shows 817 and the website shows 820….not that i’m losing my sleep over it.
thanks
Dibya
Thanks for your kind words and for being a regular reader 🙂
1. FACR is your report. I see they don’t allow t download it now.
2. Check out “Understand my report” section for codes and descriptions. Its normal.
3. Try to email them. The card/ac number you see might be different, just make sure it shows the correct activity.
That’s interesting about Bajaj Finance, can you share more info on that?
Maybe 817 is your last month’s score.
I can send you a screenshot of the app with the score if you want. Thanks
That would be great. Kindly mail it to sid[at]cardexpert.in
XXX means that on those months there have been no transactions on the card and hence no bill paid. And in the months in which you indeed spent something and paid within the due date without delay, you’ll see a ‘0’ for that. Hope this helps.
Hi,
Great article. Never knew of such info before.
So, i immediately checked my credit score(801) but i see in the account section only 1 credit card listed. and i see all the people commenting their various credit cards listed. i have 3 now. How and where can i check?
Thanks
Are you sure that your PAN is updated in all of them? check with the bank.
Hi Siddharth
So recently I recieved my ICICI platinum credit card for lifetime free(the bank only called me and told me it’s a pre approved card and I’ll get an excellent credit limit). However, as pathetic as it can get, I applied for master card and informed them multiple times to make sure I recieved master card, but I ended up recieving visa. 2nd thing, they f***ed up my mobile number so badly, thankfully I recieved my card somehow and changed my phone number. And to my surprise, the credit limit was just 55000₹ which is lower than my monthly salary!! Now I just want to close this card. Coz I tool this to purchase a laptop on emi(1 lakh), since it was lifetime free and pre-approved, I didn’t care about points (already have diners rewardz with 75k lomit)
Plz tell me is there any ICICI online portal where I can check my spends for this card, outstanding amount etc(like hdfc has in netbanking)
Yes, they do have a portal Vivek.
For me, its inside my usual ICICI netbanking a/c login, so should be same for you too.
But I don’t have any savings account with ICICI bank. How do I access netbanking?
No idea Vivek, pls call up Phone Banking. They must be able to guide you.
You can register easily via login link on home page. On home page of icici bank, move cursor to Login, click Personal, NRI and Young Stars, Now click Login Now, here on right side under ” May I Help You”, click New User? Get UserID, here click under serial number 2 on “Click Here To Proceed”, now select credit card radio button, enter credit card number and click “GO”. You are all done. Now to generate password, follow the link JUST BELOW THE “Click Here To Proceed” after receiving username. Its now done!
Is is once in calendar year or once in financial year?
Calendar yr most likely.
Hi Sid! thanks for the info on free CIBIL
In my report one of the credit cards ‘total credit limit’ field is blank!
Is it normal/ok?
Its normal.
Most banks don’t report the credit limit.
But because of that, the whole reason of having a higher credit limit to decrease the credit utilization ratio and thereby improving the CIBIL Score fails. HDFC is the laziest of the lot and never discloses the credit limit. Citibank is very good in this respect and invariably reports the credit limit.
Hi Siddharth. So before reading only, I had purchased this cibil worth 550₹ package. So since I have done only 3 payment of credit card till now, it shows my score as NA. My question is that weather I’ll be able to see my cibil score for lifetime with this 550₹ package or was this only one time(I can login but will they show me updated score?)
Its for once only.
Isn’t it unfair that cibil charged me 550₹ to display my score once and that score is NA
What is your score sid?
Mine was around 800 when i checked few months back. I checked my Dad’s score in this free report.
Thanks for such a vital information.
I could able to check my score immediately , which was 791
What is the best possible CIBIL score.?
And as per your understanding, which score can be termed as bad, average, good, excellent..?
<700: Bad
700-750: Okay
750-800: Good
800-850: Great
850+ AWESOME
More than these, its very important to know if there are an black marks in report, like "settled"
What can be done for accounts which show settled?
Add more FD based cards/loans and maintain them for a while. Might take an yr or more for Banks to get some trust on such settled accounts.
Can you please email / publicly post on what do you mean by FD based cards / loans .. I never got that 🙂
I means Credit cards issued against FD
or any other loans would do.
Mine’s 857
This is an important heads-up. Thank you very much for this article. Do you (or anyone else) have idea about equifax? It’s a credit rating agency like CIBIL. My Cibil scores is above 800 but in Equifax it’s very low. I’ve had difficult time(s) dealing with CIBIL. Has anyone dealt with Equifax?
CIBIL is the only Score to take care of now as other scores are not being used as a primary check by most banks.
Parth,
Yes. Even My score on equifax is low although CIBIL and Experian scores are good. Seems like they have a different criteria.
Thanks a lot.
My Equifax score is 100 less than CIBIL. Nothing negative in the report. Dont know how they calculate the score.
Hey Siddharth .. this is important in it’s own way important for everyone – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRrDsbUdY_k
Nice one Parth, thanks for sharing!
Hi Siddharth,
Thanks for all the information that you have been providing. Strated following you a few days back. Very infotmative.
One question I have here is, I tried to do the steps you have mentioned above, but after login, I am only able to see the credit score. I am not able to see the report. And as far as my report goes, I have only 2 tabs there, my details and change password. Both of no use for this. Am I missning anything.
Thanks
It shouldn’t happen. You can get in touch with CIBIL to see what’s happening.
Thanks Siddharth.
Yes the same issue is there with mine and my friends. Not sure. I will contact them.
Tried to get my free CIBIL score. says page requested does not exist. Can you pls check if they have withdrawn the free report feature ?
Last year my score was 792. (paid report)
Thanks Sid… Just got to know it. Nice to know this way to get your Cibil report….and good for you to update it for all.
Dear siddharth,
i like your blog very much. my cibil score shows around 806.
is it good enough?
kindly clear
Yes it is 🙂
Hi Sid,
Thanks for the info.
I only use credit cards and my score is 785. Is there any way to increase the score? What are the ways to boost the score up. I have paid my bills within due dates and never had an outstanding amount.
More credit cards would help, or, just check my other article on how to increase your CIBIL score.
Thanks Sid for getting free CIBIL report. I applied for Indusind platinum and ICICI platinum card. CIBIL score is 784.
Can you tell me on what basis banks provide credit card and internal procedure for approval of credit card.
Thanks a lot Sid, you’re the champ. Last yr Feb I had checked my score and it was 790. Today morning me & roomie were discussing the CIBIL score as he wanted to apply for Diners Premium (courtesy to you, I got that card and now in my office I’ve helped 6 ppl get Diners premium, and 2 in my family).
So friend says his score is 625, I didn’t remember my score exactly, so I told mine was 798. Once I came to office thought of checking your website for some card review, then voila …I see “Free Cibil Score”….immediately checked and I couldn’t believe the coincidence, its indeed 798 😀
So you’re the Credit card Guru of your company 😉
Have Fun.
And 798 is a pretty good score too.
Hi Siddharth,
I was actually about to pay to get my CIBIL score when i came across you useful article. I followed the steps and got a mail from CIBIL to login to my account using a temporary password(reset during first login) to access the report. But after logging in, it is prompting me enter more details to avail loan offers. I am not able to access the report or view the score from any of the tab/options. Would be helpful if you could tell me how to view/access the report.
You can skip the offers. Try to login again.
CIBIL score is more than 800 , applied for Standard Chartered Landmark Rewards Platinum Credit Card , card on card basis , currant CC has hansom credit limit paid all bills on time , still Standard Chartered decline credit card !, They are not giving any answer why they not approved CC . is my CIBIL is not good ?
Score is good, maybe they’re not ok with some other parameters. Did you check your report to see if there is any issue in it?
In CIBIL report everything is ok, i paid every payment on time. Standard Chartered Landmark Rewards Platinum Credit Card is entry level card , still they decline and they are not giving any reason
My CIBIL score is 801. Is that good one? How to improve my credit score?
I got the free CIBIL report last month. Now if I login, the details there will be refreshed( for the credit card / home loan etc.) or that is static ( as of feb 2017 when i got the free report generated)
Donot pull reports more often. Getting CIBIL reports Once or twice a year is the best way as banks donot update the info in realtime.
hi sidd,
I checked my Cibil and my name, father name, date of birth is not correct & even Identity proof numbers of voter id and UID is of that person, it seems cibil linked my account with someone having same name (Vipin Kumar). cibil statement showing 3-4 loan accounts that i never applied. please let me know how can i proceed for early change in my cibil report. My score is 818 and my loan is on verge of rejection due to outstanding shown in my report with no fault of mine as i have never took that oan
You need to contact CIBIL.
FYI
There are total 4 agencies which provide free credit report once per year-
1) TransUnion Cibil
2) Equifax
3) Experian
4) Crif High Mark
i read your article and thought of finding out my score. i completed all the process and in end i came to a page which said to login to mycibil section to view the score. now when i went to mycibil page, it is asking to create new password. but when i am entering the password its showing error msg –
“Password should have atleast 8 characters with atleast 1 lowercase alphabet, 1 uppercase alphabet, 1 special character and atleast 1 number.”
i tried many times and i know i am not doing any mistake.
please help me in this.
after failing multiple times. i tried a different approach. i went to mycibil home page and clicked forgot password and did the formalities. and after that i was able to access my score.
my score is 748. i have only one credit card and no loans. how do you you see my score. is it good.
Hi Sid,
Do you know how we can check the CIBIL report that was received by the querying bank (say HDFC, Amex etc.) ?
https://www.dc.transuniondecisioncentre.co.in/dc/CIR/
It requires some reference number by the bank. But, it does not look like any of my recent reference numbers are working.
Cibil just gives the report once in a year for free but this way we can access the report for every CC application.
Thanks.
Interesting question.
Had this doubt long back, but never explored it.
I’m checking on this with my latest issuer and will revert when i have more details.
Hi sid ,
Any update on this?
Hi siddharth, my cibil score being 804, i had applied for standard chartered landmark rewards credit card on the basis of RBL credit card for which credit limit is 2,08000. Still my application got rejected. What might be the reason?
Hi all
Please do check your cibil. You should be proactive and dispute any loan or info which you belive to be wrong.
Recently a guy learnt he stood guarantor for 7 auto loans without his consent. 🤤🤤🤤Luckily the 8th time the banker called him up to confirm. 😥
Hi,
If I am applying for card upgrade within the same bank, will that be counted as a hard enquiry on my credit score. Will it have a bad impact? And what about the case if the bank is offering me upgrade.
I think there will be no inquiry. The upgrade is based in your history and usage of the existing card.
You won’t get any hard enquiries for upgrades whether you apply or the bank offers.
How to check free annual report, when last year we availed free report. I tried checking into mycibil login no option
I am not able to login to my account in CIBIL since February 2018. I subscribed for biannual subscription. Now facing this problem. Raised complaints with CIBIL multiple times even escalated to level 3. But since last 4 months they are just saying it will be resolved soon. Is anyone of you are also facing same problem. Can anyone of you help me how to lodge complaint against CIBIL to RBI.
They kind of messed up while upgrading their systems it seems. Had this problem on my ac too a month back, just call them & follow up for 2 days and it should get fixed.
I forgot my userid is there is any way we ca recover it.
Thanks a lot, I checked my CIBIL Score for free for the first time and raise two disputes
first one is for even I have not made any loan request from dmifinance, even though they are showing me two inquiries on a different date and 2nd for KOTAK it’s showing two accounts instead of one.
Hope it will resolved soon.
My CIBIL score is 749
Thanks,
Can any one confirm that checking cibil monthly with the third party sites like paisa bazaar or other’s can lower our cibil ?? Is it true ?
Hi Siddharth,
What could be reasons for difference between cibil and experian. My cibil is 766 whereas by experian is 860. What to do to improve cibil score.
@ Sid
Once again thanks for this article. Checked my report last year as well as this year. (Score increased from 783 -> 814).
I will sometimes also use HDFC method as recently got the account too.
