Amex Diwali Offer (2021): Get Vouchers worth upto Rs.70,000 on your spends

Amex Diwali Offer 2021

Just like every other year, American Express India has come up with a GRAND spend-linked targeted Diwali Offer for 2021 with which you can grab gift vouchers worth upto Rs.70,000 based on spends.

Here’s everything you need to know about the offer, the variants and more.

Offer Variants (Regular Cards)

Offer #Spend CriteriaGift Voucher (INR)Voucher BrandReward Rate
12L15,000Taj7.5%
21.5L10,000Taj6.7%
350,0003,000Amazon Pay6%
425,0001,500Amazon Pay6%
510,000750Amazon Pay7.5%

The offer is neat & simple just as always with Amex, without any exclusion of spends. That aside, it’s good to see the return on spend >5% on non-plat cards too.

  • Offer Period: 1st Oct – 15th Nov 2021

This time around, almost all the cardholders I know of have received the offer unlike last few years where some were not part of these offers. However, we may get to know more on this later, in the comments below.

If you haven’t received the offer, do call/chat with Amex and check for the same.

Offer Variants (Platinum Card)

Offer #Spend CriteriaGift Voucher (INR)Voucher BrandReward Rate
18.5L70,000Taj8.3%
24.5L40,000Taj8.9%
31.5L12,000Taj8%
450,0003,000Amazon Pay6%

Wow! With a return on spend as good as 9%, American Express is about to blow the competition this festive season by grabbing the spends of the premium segment.

And not to forget, you also get the regular points on these spends, which if counted would add upto sweet ~10%

I’ve received Offer #3 on platinum charge card and I’m pretty happy with it.

My Thoughts

Almost after 4 years, American Express finally came up with an attractive Diwali offer that gives return on spend >5% for most cardholders.

And not to mention, this is probably the first time they’re sending the offer to Platinum Cardholders for Diwali (in scale). Hope this makes many happy and I’m definitely one of them. 🙂

That being said, Amex is also running Reward Multiplier offer (2nd Oct – 7th Oct) where-in you can get 20 MR/100 INR instead of regular earn rate (eVouchers excluded).

This, along with the targeted offer one can save a significant amount on their festive season spends.

While you might be jumping in joy, not to forget to enrol your card before going with the spend.

  • Fulfilment: This offer has been fulfilled on 10th March 2022.

Have you received your Amex Diwali targeted offer for 2021? Which offer variant is that? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Correct, even myself and my dad received for 4.75L spend and 45k Taj Vouchers

But remember, the vouchers are valid for 180 days with no chances of extension.

Please try and purchase a gift card and let me know. I was trying to buy a 2k Amazon birthday gift card as my son has to attend his friends birthday party. Only UPI, net banking and Debit Cards are available as payment options. Had a chat with Amazon customer care and they confirmed this is a recent change. It is only for buying Amazon Gift cards, not for other brand gift cards. I have not checked on adding balance to Amazon Pay (since my idea was to purchase a voucher for gifting).

Then it looks like a restriction imposed on my account only; though not sure of the reason. I will try and buy the gift card from my wife’s Amazon account.

New offer from Amex from 5-10 OCT. Spend 60K and get 5000 cb (upto 3 times, valid on EMI when emi amount is greated than 60K). Total 15K cb for 1,80,000/- spend. Wish they had given this offer 3 days back. Made multiple purchases during the sale. That would have clubbed a lot of offers.

Doesn’t get crazier than this, all offers come down together and for a short while.
Amex 20pts per 100 plus the spend based reward. In case of Amex PT it adds upto almost 25% benefit.
HDFC 10% off on Amazon plus 5X using DCB/infinia.
Axis flipkart 10% off plus 5% cashback plus generous payback points.
    Yescart value back upto 15%.
Also saw some mind-blowing deals on e-com sites. We need to shop all year round but these offers land up only for few days all at once. No choice but to let go most of it.

BTW, is there any chance we can use Amex for rent payment to reach that 15Nov target? It doesn’t seem to work on Phonepe, tried multiple times it always fails.

I didn’t receive the offer email for my MRCC card. However, spoke to CC and they confirmed that I am eligible for this offer(1.25 L spends/10k Taj voucher) and mentioned that I would be enrolled for the same. Thank you Sid for sharing the offer details. I had a similar experience with Amex Insurance spends offer(15x MR) where I had to call the CC and enroll my card account under the offer. With these two offers combined, it seems to be a triple dip if spent wisely(15x MR for insurance + 10k Taj voucher for 1.25L spends + Regular MRCC rewards i.e. 1k MR each for 20k spends and 1.5k * 4 spends).

Banks and other credit card companies are giving generous cashback offers. How do they earn money from the customers ? MDR is around 1.5-2% , but they are giving back more than 2% to the customers. So what is the math here of earing money of these card issuing companies ?

They meet their operational expenses from the MDR. They find money for promotions from the interest paid to them (by those card holders who do not pay in full, and decide to rollover.) Over simplification, but generally true.

Has anyone faced the issue with Bonus points with Amex. There was an offer on Amex for 25 bonus points for every 100 spend through Reward multiplier in March. I did some shopping on Ajio using the same within the period and rewards points are still not credited till date and only some 600 points were credited around September end out of around 9000 which were supposed to be credit.

Can we really trust the Amex on this as they say 150 days for fulfillment and they exclude Sat and Sun which is approx. 30 to to 34 weeks from transaction

I am struggling to get Bonus MR points for February itself. Personally, I have lost trust in AmEx for fulfillment of Rewards Multiplier and have stopped channeling my spends there.

      Reply
      1. Amit

It certainly is extremely painful to track and follow-up with Amex to get the due MR points once you have fulfilled the offer condition from your end. Amex, in my opinion, in very keen to find ways and means to not award the bonus points even if the offer condition was met. I recently followed-up with them (over multiple emails and calls) to check regarding 5 of the offers they rolled out in the last one year where the requisite points were not posted to my account. I am still chasing them for a resolution. Interestingly, I strangely discovered that Amex seems to be the only one which doesn’t consider your overall spend amount for meeting the spend threshold. For instance, if the Amex offer was to get a certain benefit (say 10K bonus MR points) on spending 50K within a specific duration – and if you spend 52K on say Amazon to buy something – you would presume that you have met the offer condition and hence you should get the 10K bonus MR points after the 120 odd days – but you wont get them as Amex excludes the inbuilt GST component in that purchase (assume its 5%) – which comes close to 3K – from the spend amount – so the net ‘post-GST’ amount would be reduced to 49K and hence as per them the offer condition was not fulfilled!!!!!!!!!! And this GST component is not visible at all while making a purchase on any of the popular eComm portals – you can however see it if you download the invoice and check therein.

I have not seen any other bank following this practice. So please beware of this while making your purchases… for something which attracts the highest slab of GST, you may need to end up purchasing for an amount in excess of 20-30% to meet the spend threshold.

        1. Raghav Kejriwal

Wow, I am hearing this first time!!!
Fortunately, my spend was never on boarder line in past for threshold based campaigns. But good to know this 🙂

Also, other component where Amex does not fulfill offer is reward multiplier, as bonus point will never get credited in this life 😉 so be careful with that as well.

I am on the receiving end of the same confusion. After chasing AmEx CC on chat and call for more than 3 months, today I got the response that only for Valentine’s week Reward multiplier spend target offer (50k), the spends exclusive of GST are counted for the spend. Apparently, same was mentioned in the TnC but AmEx keeps updating the same page and it is impossible to refer to the particular offers TnC after its expiry.
I am utterly disappointed with, otherwise exceptional, AmEx services and customer care knowledge w.r.t. this offer.

I have raised the TAT issued on Twitter recently and a lot of people chimed in on it too. 150 Working Days (Almost 7 Months) is just horrible.

As for the March Offer, even I had the same issue. I had escalated it and the response from Amex was that the March Offer was Women’s Day offer and applicable only on specific Brands under Reward Multiplier and not all brands. Rest of the brands would get the normal Reward Multiplier Points.
