American Express is back with generous Credit Limit Enhancements

American Express Credit Limit Enhancements

If you’ve been maximising credit cards pre-covid, you would know that American Express India is quite generous in offering credit limit enhancements on their credit cards and amazing credit support on their charge cards.

However once Covid-19 came into picture, American Express silently put a hold on their credit limit enhancements for few months and then started accepting limit enhancement requests as early as Jan 2021 as reported earlier.

But the problem was that the limit enhancements were not as good as before esp when someone is having >2L credit limit already. However, now in early 2024 I see that Amex is back again as it used to be before Covid-19.

I came across two of my friend’s getting generous auto credit limit enhancements (alerts sent via email/sms) on their American Express credit cards.

  • On one of my friend’s card, the limit jumped from 2L to 3.2L (60%)
  • And on the other friend’s card, the limit jumped from 1L to 2.25L (125%)

That aside, I’m also hearing from other cardholders that the limit enhancement is as good as above even on manual request as well, by calling Amex support.

This is the usual trend which I used to see in the past. Those who’re having very low limits, they get a great hike % and if the limit is already good, they see a decent % of hike, all in line with their income and spends on the card.

If auto LE is not received and if your spends are pretty good, simply call Amex and request for a LE (do it during the day time when the credits team is available).

So it seems the conservative period of Amex is over. While I’m not sure since when this is being offered, I guess it should be either late 2023 or early 2024.

If you’re new to Amex and wish to enjoy the sky high credit limits, this is the best time to apply for American Express Cards as you can avail them as First Year Free:

No LE from Amex yet. Only once I got an LE as soon as I swiped my MRCC in Croma.
However, got an LE for HSBC platinum card from 1.5L to 7.7L despite low usage.

That’s a significant jump indeed. Was it a manual request or Auto LE?

With Amex, they often start quite low but usually generous with LE.

5 years with them and they gave me LE only when i called. it was also linenet.
3.2 to 4 lacs. 3-4 months when i was going china and spend almost 2.5 lacs on the card and immediately paid back so that limit can be restored and asked CC to enhahnce the limit and they telephonically assured me but never did it.
had a very bad expeirence with them. they never did it.
infact their card dont work in the TOP 4 hospitals in ahmedabad and when u need it most it wont work. so in that terms AMEX is the worst card.

          Hi Sachin,
Amex has recently made changes in Amazon Pay vouchers purchase through Rewards Multiplier. Previously, they allowed a max. of Rs.25k Amazon pay vouchers now reduced to 10k purchase a month. The only better option to make insurance payments with Amex cards using Amazon vouchers is now restricted.
          🙁

    Hey Sid,

I too got a generous Credit LE ( I feel so) from Amex in Jan. My CC limit was 2.97L and AMEX offered 30% increase and now it is 3.86L. When compared with the examples it is less. I think since I am already on the higher side I was offered only 30%.

Nevertheless, I am happy with this increase:)
