5000 Bonus Reward Points on YES Bank Credit Cards

By | December 21, 2017

Yesbank has been playing around with 2X Reward Points and 10X reward points for a while and now they’ve come up with a new kind of Bonus Reward points offer for New Year/Christmas, based on the spend. Everyone has different spend threshold and when you meet it, you get 5000 points. The spend threshold is designed to push you to spend more than what you’ve spent before. Here are more details.

Yesbank Credit Cards 5000 Bonus Reward Points Offer

Yesbank Credit Cards: 5000 Bonus Reward Points Offer

  • Type: Spend based
  • Spend Threshold: Personalised (usually between 15k-35k)
  • Excluded Spend Type: Fuel spends
  • Bonus Points: 5,000 Points
  • Offer Period: Dec 16th-31st 2017
  • Fulfillment: 28th Feb 2018
  • Effective Savings: 4% & above
  • Source

My spend requirement is Rs.30,000 while others have received in the range of 15k-35k. Looks like the spend requirement is computed based on previous months spends as i hardy spent anything this month. Its ideally put in such way that those who usually spend less are rewarded more % than others.

This is typically done by most credit card companies to push the overall amount spent per card. Even SBI and Amex seem to have been doing it but i never got a chance to avail them as it wasn’t targeted to me yet. I got one spend based offer with HDFC a while back after which it never came to me, though comes every month for my family cards.

Bottomline:

I may sound like a snake oil salesman when it comes to Yesbank Credit Cards. But the fact is, Yes bank is aggressive in increasing their market share and will continue to come up with such cool offers every single month at-least for next ~2 years. Even if not, you can expect a wonderful promo every festive season.

So, if you don’t hold Yesbank cards, go ahead and apply for one. Just incase if you need more reasons to get one, check out my previous article on: Why Should you Apply for a YES Bank Credit Card

Did you receive this offer and how much was your spend requirement? Feel free to share your thoughts in comments below.

Yes First preferred. 45k spend was my limit 🙁 I have diverted all my spends to Yes card and the monthly spend is high. I guess that explains the higher limit to me!!!

For me the spend threshold was ₹25K. I have already met the threshold. Will, be waiting to get the points. It’s eally a PITA to track asll these points. However, Yesbank seems to be pretty accurate with crediting the bonus points though. Till now they have credited bonus points correctly, twice in my account for two different offers. I am as of now waiting for the 10X points offer and this latest 5000 RPs offer.

Yes, they seem to be as good as Amex in this matter. I cross checked past 3 offers fulfilment and all seem to have got added properly. Someone got 10X points too it seems, but i didn’t receive yet as well.

I have received the 10X points as well as the 3X points that happened in November. As of now I am waiting for the 5000 RPs for this December offer. Will let you know when the points are credited. As of now, we haven’t got the February 5000 RPs offer from Yesbank.

I received 2 mails. 1. Get additional 1500* Reward Points* for every spend of Rs.20000 and 2. get 2x points on spends above Rs.35K non 10X.
I also received a promo mail 2 months back: Earn 500 Reward Points when you make 4 or more transactions using your Card. I have received the same i guess.
Its good for us that Yes and HDFC are fighting for share. These days ICICI is also giving good offers. I have started using the ICICI HP coral Amex card for fuel purchase instead of citi indian oil. Now another card by SBI with a tie up with BP has come up with decent rewards on various spends.

Its just been a month I got the yes bank card and my spend reqt for 5000 RP was whopping 1 lac 15 thousand when others getting only in the range u specified. This is really pathetic to calculate only on the basis of last 1 month spend.

    Hi Sid

If one has YFE and just crosses the threshold then reward rate is 10.83% at 15k and 6% at 35k spends. Spends above targets continue to get 2.5%.

If one has YFP then reward rate is 10.33% at 15k & 5.5% at 35k spends. Spends above targets continue to get 2%.

Looks like a good deal to me.

Assuming 2% regular RP rate of Yes Preferred card, the reward rate is between 6% and 10% and upto 11% for Yes First Exclusive card holders. You missed adding regular reward points.
    Spend 15000 20000 35000
    Regular RP (Rs.) 300 400 700
    Bonus RP (Rs.) 1250 1250 1250
    Total RP (Rs.) 1550 1650 1950
    % Reward ~10% ~8% ~6%

      2. Amex Guy

It’s a decent free card for travellers for one reason alone — emergency cash literally anywhere in the world in a very short span of time. HSBC is world’s local bank for a reason. Sadly my card got cancelled last year because I did not spend anything on it for a year. But it was a good mental relief, just in case I got mugged or my cards started to get denied.

Their promos are good but are all spend based. Evidently I didn’t spend enough so never used any. 😛

Have almost forgotten HSBC existence. Infact i saw someone from HSBC in interview say they’re NOT interested in credit cards business !?! So i decided they wont be good at personalised promos. Will probably explore it in late 2018.

        2. Abhishek Roy

Yes. Emergency cash can be at times really helpful. However, I’ll really not like to get into such situations. For this, one can always keep various cards at hotels and some in wallet. Few cash should always be in hotel room. I too have never tried HSBC Credit Cards in India.

Off topic : I already have regalia and yesfirst preferred and don’t use HSBC that much. So do you think with revised limit on HSBC it will be beneficial will it increased limit will create hindrance with increasing the limit of other cards or applying new cards.

@ I need into lounge access for my wife none of her card have internet lounge acess. I have two priority pass will they accept those at lounge for both of us. If not then which is the best card to get to serve purpose. We have 20 days .

  12. Majumdar

My target is 30K. Was cribbing till I read Ajesh and Kapil’s posts here!

Moral of the story, spend only what is needed to get Bonus RPs and keep earning regular 5-7.5% rate for a long period. Else you end killing the golden goose!

I got it couple of months back. And I got 15k as target. Spent it in a day.

But I disagree that they are pretty good with reward points accrual. I added some billers which would have got me 1000 points each, but it’s not the case. I am yet to argue with customer service on that. But Yes bank is no way close to AMEX. Atleast from my personal experience.

Siddharth, I disagree with you on the statement that they are trying aggressively to expand their credit card portfolio. Yes bank Credit cards are available only at selected locations. Many of its branches are still deposit mobilizing branches only. Even they are not trying to issue credit cards on “card on card” in these locations where they got branches.

On the other hand, SBI is going aggressively and they are offering cards to their account holders.

    Reply
    1. Siddharth Post author

All banks have set a “serviceable area” which is basically the area of less risk in most cases and there may also be other factors like # of accounts in a particular branch which helps banks to decide the best way to expand at low expense to bank.

Anyways, you can still get Card on Card if you can give good NRV to the bank. Mine is the same case and i was still able to get the card. Hope you read my preferred article.

Any idea about eligibility requirements to upgrade from Preferred to Exclusive?

    Reply
    1. Don

Just been upgraded from YFP to YFE in under 7 months. The following were the arguments put forth by me to the YBL CC team, for an upgrade:

      1. Transactions/Spendings have been quite good in my account, both in volume as well as value terms (Rs. 5L+ in 6 months). Thus, significant business has been given to YBL.
      2. Several international transactions had also been done. If Yes Bank earns good from us, no reason for them to not upgrade.
      3. NRV: Healthy NRV as well as family YF savings account maintained.
      4. The payments to the credit card account have also always been made a week before due date, signifying a clean record.
      5. CIBIL score of 818. Banks and CC companies typically love a score of 700+. Mine has been 800+ since a very long time.
      6. Referrals: I had also referred and converted few potential customers to the YF savings program & YF Preferred card. This too added as a selling point.

I don’t know if fulfilling their bonus reward points criteria which they often come up with and periodically sending revised pay slips may help or not, but fortunately I didn’t have to resort to it.

All in all, think of yourself as a bachelor and YFE as your potential bride. Since, they are never transparent about the upgrade criteria, give them maximum positive reasons and chase aggressively. Wish you the best for upgrade.

For this offer, the net spends is supposed to take the credits to your card into account as well? I had spent my 20k as per the promotion, but some payment came through to the card during the offer period, and acc. to the bank team, the net spends take into account the credits as well. So my net spend is 19k and not 20 and apparently I don’t qualify.

No such thing about credits is mentioned in the T&Cs.
