I visit Coimbatore frequently and I’ve crossed this property over 10 times in past couple of months but i had never even thought of checking it out. To my surprise, i found that it has lot to offer once i started exploring for Starwood Hotels around me.
Quick Info: Le Meridien Coimbatore is an upscale business hotel designed with European Luxury in mind as like any other Le Meridien property. Its the largest hotel in coimbatore, located out of city surrounded by empty lands, though its a short 10 mins drive from the airport.
Le Meridien Coimbatore Hotel Review:
Booking:
- Cost: 3,000 SPG Star Points
Initially, the award night was not showing up on app as the standard rooms at 2k points got sold out. So i had to call up SPG support to book a customised room. I was offered a Club room with breakfast for 3k points which also comes with complimentary one hour drinks and snacks in the evening.
I value 1 SPG Point = Rs. 1.5 (lowest), so the stay costs me approx. Rs.4,500 which is a great value for the room that usually goes for revenue rate of Rs.8,000+
Lobby & Check-in:
The Entrance opens up to lobby with some free space, followed by big seating area in the center. From there, you could also see a very tall Chandelier hanging from 3rd floor, which they claim it to be Asia’s largest Chandelier. You can check out the short video that i posted on Instagram.
The check-in area was in the left with a separate space for SPG Gold and Platinum Members. Our room was upgraded to Junior suite which is the basic suite, beyond which Deluxe, Royal & Presidential suites are there. We were then escorted to the suite by the guy who did our check-in formalities.
Junior Suite at Le Meridien Coimbatore:
Living Room:
As soon as you enter the suite, there comes the living room with large sofa and a comfortable chair (i like this) with coffee table. The entire suite was furnished with grey/black finish concept, living room has wooden floor and the bedroom has marble floor. We didn’t spend much time here, though serves the purpose for those who needs.
The Living room is connected to the bedroom with a small hallway which actually makes it feel detached but helps for those who need more privacy, just incase if you’ve any guests in living room.
Bed Room:
The bed was very comfortable, especially the pillows are super soft. If you look closer, you can see one large pillow, which is the biggest i’ve ever seen in hotels. The work table and the chair setup is good and serves the purpose. The suite has a view of empty lands and a bit of city view beyond that.
On the bed, we saw a couple of vouchers placed, one of them was for a complimentary coffee, which we ordered to the room.
Bath Room:
The hallway that connects living room and bedroom also connects to the bathroom with a sliding door. Bathroom was quite spacious with marble sink and marble bath tub, all fitted with TOTO toilets and also had a rain shower.
Complimentary One Hour Drinks:
I would say, this is by far one of the least noticed benefit, but with a great value. The complimentary drinks and snacks are usually served in the bar at lobby level, between 6-8pm. As soon as we entered the bar, i was surprised to see only 4-5 people, as i was expecting a large crowd.
They seem to have some set of hot drinks available with no limits but we went with available soft drinks and some snacks. For snacks, they had some veg balls and fried chicken. We ordered both and got them refilled couple of times. I could call it as a mini dinner with a decent value.
- Approx. Value: Rs.1000
Though it has a nice value, remember, this is served in the bar and so it maynot work out if you travel with family. Maybe i think that’s why its not crowded.
Breakfast:
The breakfast was served in the restaurant at the lobby level which looks majestic. They had huge breakfast spread with lots of fruits, juices along with the main course.
Bottomline:
Being the largest hotel in the city, it has everything you would need from a luxury hotel, good for layovers and others who donot have much work in the city. The standard rooms usually goes for about Rs.5,000, which is almost in the range of Vivanta by Taj – Coimbatore, but if you redeem points, this is one of the best property to get maximum value out of it.
- Hotel Rating: 4/5
Have you been to Le Meridien Coimbatore or just any other Le Meridien Properties? Feel free to share your experiences in comments below.
Sid,
Since you seem to be much into SPG, I suggest you start participating in the Marriotts Rewards challenge, potentially with several IDs, your own and also (spouse, parents and siblings, if applicable). Then convert MR points into SPG by linking the two accounts (3:1).
Regards
Yes, i’m. Just getting started though 🙂
Am actually doing the opposite as i see more Starwood properties than Mariott around me. So my plan is to get into SPG Gold and then do plat challenge.
And i’m not aware of “Mariott Rewards Challenge” that you’ve mentioned, any lights on it please?
I think he’s talking about the Marriott #ReardsPoints promotion. Check it out at 11:59 PM IST every Sunday on their twitter. Answer one easy NFL question and get 1000 rewards points every week. You can always convert them to SPG. Register here and then participate every Sunday. Marriott is giving away 45,000 points on Twitter this year.
I sincerely hope you’re at least doing the SPG gold challenge.
I’m aware of NFL, but just because i’m zero in NFL, i’m ignoring it 😀
Reg. SPG Gold challenge,
No, i skipped it coz of this:
“If a member is upgraded via the challenge on or before February 28th, 2018, they retain status until February 28, 2019, the following year. If they are upgraded on or after March 1, 2018, they retain status for the remainder of the year, all of 2019, up until February 28, 2020”
Hi Majumdar! I have 2 MR accounts and was looking for ways to redeem points in a single visit. Could you guide me how to link two MR accounts to a single SPG account?
@Sid,
You hate showing links from other blog?
Ashwin,
I truly appreciate your comment on NFL that linked to onemileatatime blog. But i have to skip it as “Amex Guy” got that covered in a line. This question also made me to write in detail about the commenting moderation we do. Please find the same here.
Here’s quick look into “links” part:
Comments with links usually gets longer to get approved than those without. Reason being, me or other author(s) need to find time to go through the content before approving and responding to it. In most cases we’ve seen, you can put the necessary info in a line or two, than adding a link. I find it to be very useful as its easy for others too to grab the info in seconds instead of going through the whole new page. Hence, include links only when its highly necessary. In such cases, try best to link to the source page.
Hope it helps?
can someone explain what is gold or platinum challenge? Sid are you reviewing this hotels because on a biz trip or any other reason?
Its a way to get the status faster, usually SPG/others will have their own guidelines for this. You need to complete X/Y nights (or) stays to become Gold/Plat in a period of Z months, usually 3 months. This helps if you have plans to stay often in a short time. Google it a bit for full info with each chain.
Most of my travels are bleisure trips kind. But this, me and my friend were on a pure leisure trip to CBE and i wanted to explore this property badly as it gives great value for the points. Its also kind of addictive when you get into the game 😀
How did you earn these points?
By stays or by converting others to SPG?
I bought some points in the recent promo. Check out this article for the same.
I’m planning to stay there for a day with my wife. I see SPG 2000 points Free nights available in the site for the days i’m planning. Do you know if that includes breakfast and the complimentry one hr drinks you mentioned ? I couldn’t find the details in the site. Thanks!
Mohan,
The 2k points plan is for the basic/executive room which doesn’t include “breakfast and the complimentary one hr drinks”. It comes with the Club room only. You can get these info by calling the hotel. They’re impressively educated on this which surprised me when i called at first.
P.S. You can get Comp. Breakfast if you’re a SPG Platinum.
HI Sidd,
I believe you get complimentary drinks if you are SPG Platinum if the hotel is running the happy hours or is pat of Club/Exceutive suite booking. This is what is mentioned in benefits for SPG plat status. “Complimentary health-club, Club-level and Executive-level access”
Cool. So Plat always gets free drinks at the rate of lowest room too 🙂
Can you please share on what cards in India helps in earning SPG points?
Am not able to find any info on this.
What cards helps in earning those SPG points and Marriott points?
Thanks
