Scapia Federal Bank Credit Card Review

The Scapia Credit Card is a co-branded card issued by Federal Bank in partnership with Scapia, who markets and distributes the card.

Scapia Credit Card is designed for the new-age travellers who prefer to have travel experiences as rewards over the usual cashback type rewards.

The Scapia app is modern, easy to use, and offers one of the smoothest application processes in the country. Here’s everything you need to know about the Federal Bank Scapia Credit Card in it’s current form:

Overview

TypeTravel Credit Card
Reward RateUpto 4%

Joining / Renewal FeeNil [Lifetime Free]
Best forTravel Spends & redemptions

If you look closer, Scapia is an interesting card: it’s an entry-level card, yet offers benefits like a travel card with a reward rate as good as premium cards and a user experience matching super-premium ones.

So irrespective of which segment you belong, you might still love this card.

  • Excluded category for rewards: Rent, Education, Gift Cards, Fuel, Government Spends & Wallet Top-Ups
  • Scapia Coins value: 0.20 INR/coin

The Scapia Credit Card gives 2% base reward rate, which is great for a lifetime free card, however the reward rate on travel spends could have been higher, as it’s limited to spends done on the app.

If you’re looking for better rewards, you might like the 5% cashback on online spends with SBI Cashback Credit Card.

Note: The 10% or 20% Scapia coins mentioned on the app as earn rate is about coins, not actual percentage.

Additional Terms:

  • Utility and telecom bill payments earn 2% reward rate on spends up to ₹20,000 per billing cycle
  • Utility (or) Fuel spends over 50,000 INR will attract 1% fee (upto 3K INR)
  • Rent & Wallet Load will attract 1% fee (max. upto 3K INR)
  • 1% Fuel surcharge waiver up to ₹5000/txn

Scapia coins can be used not just for flights and hotels, but also for buses, trains and even Visa, a unique feature. While Visa costs are bit pricey, having an option to redeem points for train/bus tickets is a wonderful USP of the card.

The good news above all is that you can redeem 100% of your Scapia coins for travel.

Forex Markup Fee

  • Forex Markup Fee: 0%
  • Reward rate on Intl. Spends: 0%
  • Net gain: 0%

0% forex markup is usually seen only on select premium cards, but the Scapia Credit Card brings it to everyone, helping especially beginners save a lot on international spends.

Lounge Access

ACCESS TYPEVIALIMIT
Domestic Lounge AccessVisaUnlimited
  • Spend Requirement: 10,000 INR per month on Visa (or 15K INR on Rupay)

It’s indeed a surprise to see unlimited lounge access on the card with spend requirement as low as 10,000 INR, which is fair enough.

Speaking of lounge access, it’s one of the four options you can choose under the airport privileges benefit on this card. Let’s look at them in detail:

Airport Privileges

Scapia Card - Airport Privileges
  • Options: Shop, Dine, Spa, Lounge.
  • What you get? 100% back as points on airport shop/dine spends
  • Max Cap: Upto 1,000 INR per visit
  • Limit: 1 access (either one of above) for every departure.

This is a unique benefit that most other cards don’t offer, and it’s a brilliant idea. Assuming you get lounge access on other cards, you can use this benefit to shop something at the airport.

It would be nice to see more cards offering a benefit like this in future, perhaps with 100% cashback instead of points.

In this case, instead of paying the lounges for your access, they pay that amount to you, but in points, which works out even better for them.

Scapia Card - Shopping benefit

Here’s how it works:

  1. Meet the spend requirement. (10K INR on Visa; 15K INR on Rupay)
  2. Open the app, select the option: Shop, Dine, Lounge, Spa
  3. Activate the outlet where you want to spend.
  4. Spend using the card.

You’ll get Scapia coins worth up to ₹1,000 at metro airports (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad) and ₹500 at other airports.

The benefit applies to every “Departure” (not arrival) and there is no limit on how many times you can avail this, so it’s an outstanding benefit if you fly often.

The app is well designed to understand the whole process, so you won’t go clueless.

Essentially, every time you visit the airport, you have an option to go for some free shopping if lounge is not your thing.

Hands-on Experience

Scapia Credit Card Hands-on Experience

I applied for the Scapia Credit Card through the app, and it was one of the smoothest credit card application experiences I’ve had in recent times.

It took me less than 10 minutes to apply, and the KYC was scheduled immediately, taking another 10 minutes or so.

The card was approved within a day, with the virtual card ready for instant use. The physical card arrived in about three days.

While the onboarding was great, the app was even better.

The UI is not just beautiful but also highly functional. Every detail is thoughtfully designed, delivering a buttery-smooth experience I’ve otherwise only seen in prototypes.

Should you get it?

Yes, Absolutely!

The Scapia Federal Credit Card comes with various benefits like: 0% Forex, 2% Base Rewards, Lounge Access (or) Airport Shopping worth 1,000 INR on every trip.

And all of that given on a Lifetime Free Card. If you’re into travel, this is a must have credit card in your wallet.

Bottom line

  • Cardexpert Rating: 4.8/5

Scapia Federal Bank Credit Card is a wonderfully rewarding lifetime free credit card for modern travellers seeking travel experiences as rewards.

Apart from the card benefits, the app is well integrated with the bank, allowing us to perform all key actions seamlessly within the app.

Overall, it’s a must-have credit card for any traveler, and I hope they come up with a premium or super-premium variant in the future.

Is this card not available at all locations ? My application showed eligibility of the card, e kyc was also done but in the last step when I entered my address, it said my location was not serviced by the bank.
I stay at Vadodara, there is a branch of Federal Bank near my place of residence .Besides, when I started my application, it asked for my PINCODE, and allowed me to proceed with the application, only to give above message at the last step.

My application got rejected even with 780+ credit score :-D. Shot an email to customer service and got the following response back:

We regret to inform you that we are unable to process your application at this time, as your credit bureau score does not meet the minimum eligibility criteria outlined in the bank’s credit card policy.

Does this make sense? Did anyone with a lower score got an approval?

    Hi Sir !
Currently, I am using HDFC Regalia & IndusInd Legend Card.
But now lounge access is denied in both cards.
Currently, Regalia Gold is not applicable for me as per Bank’s T&C. Perhaps, It will be applicable after next Quarter.
Now, IndusInd people are calling me daily to upgrade into Pinnacle card but it has joining fee of 15 k. And I am looking for a life time free credit card with lounge access benefit and reward points on off line shopping.
I am working in sales and used to travel within the state and used to stay in the hotels by off line booking. Bi monthly used to travel Mumbai by air.
So, please suggest me a good credit card for me apart from Regalia Gold.
    Thanks.

What is the policy of Federal Bank when it comes to holding multiple cards? I know you have already mentioned few details about the same. But I am specifically asking about how many in total federal credit cards one can hold? And how many of these can be co-branded cards of Federal bank? Currently as I am aware Federal Bank has 4 varients of Co-branded cards that is One Card, Fi Cards, Jupiter Card and Scapia Card. Also is there any ratio of Federal Bank card to co-branded cards of Federal bank which can be held simultaneously like that of Axis Bank and SBI card ( which themselves allow holding only one co-branded card along with their respective stand alone cards)

Good to take as a Life Time Free (LTF) card, especially for smaller transactions in Forex. Otherwise for people holding premium cards like Infinia (with GVP) you still get net 2% rewards on Forex transactions. I think Infinia (for Digital transactions) and IDFC First Wealth (for interest free International ATM withdrawal) is good combo and beats the likes of 0% Forex cards like Scapia.

    Hi Sid,
    Good Day!
Since the card offers dining / shopping at the airport, can it be used by a family member during his / her travel as well without showing the boarding pass? Will it be considered as a misuse?
Another question is, will the similar benefits be extended to the add-on cards? What will be the Cap?

    Reply
    1. Siddharth Raman Post author

It’s only for primary card, self use, validated with boarding pass.

They’ve thought well about the potential misuse unlike Axis. 😅
