Makemytrip 10x Reward Points Offer is back on HDFC Credit Cards

By | July 17, 2017

Now Hdfc has restarted the 10x/5x program, which was running for quite sometime in the past. Good news is that the validity of this offer is extended until 31st Mar 2018. Now everyone facing issues with smartbuy for booking flights and hotels can now enjoy the Makemytrip offer for next 9 months. Good enough!

Makemytrip 5X/10x Reward Points – HDFC Credit Card Offer

I wonder how hdfc went ahead and made this offer live as it reduces the transaction volume on smartbuy by great numbers. Anyways the offer is up on both MMT portal and HDFC Smartbuy offers section and here are the details.

Makemytrip 5X Reward Points on HDFC Credit Cards

Here’s full info of the offer.

  • This offer is only valid on transactions where the deal code HDFC5X is applied.
  • The offer shall be valid from 6th June, 2017 to 31st Mar 2018 (including both the days).
  • 5X Reward Points on all HDFC Retail Credit Crads
  • Valid only on Domestic Flights, International Flights, Domestic Hotels and International Hotels bookings.
  • This offer is not applicable on multi city flight bookings, Holiday, Bus & Rail bookings.
  • Reward Points Upper cap: Not mentioned.

As you can see, there are couple of limits on the offer which were actually the same last time (though relaxed). Not sure how its gonna work this time. Multi-city flight bookings is big part and i hope they don’t mind about the multi-city routes they show in usual bookings.

Also, i guess they’ll be strict with applying the code now on, which means, the offer is good only for flight bookings as the hotels are cheaper with other compared to HDFC5X. Hence no point in using it to pay high for getting 5x/10x points for hotels. Lets see how it goes.

Update: Diners Cards now can’t avail 10X on makemytrip

Makemytrip is indeed a great platform for travel booking and it’s good to see the 10X offer back in action as this saves a lot of money for frequent travellers. What do you think? Feel free to share your views in comments below.

    Dear Sid,

Also, i guess they’ll be strict with applying the code now on, which means, the offer is good only for flight bookings.

I am curious to know why you should think so. Why should the 5X offer be restricted to flight bookings and not for hotel bookings, say?

I mean the other coupons gives better discount on hotels than HDFC5X. Updated that part now.

    Two, more points.

    1. The only drawback of this offer vis-a-vis the old offer is that the 5X/10X points will be awarded after 60 days, whereas in the old offer it was after 30 days. For smartbuy it is 90 days.
    2. Btw, there is a way flight/hotel bookings can be done 10X where IRPs are posted in 30 days (ie next cycle) like the old 10X. Dont know whether the rules of this website/ good travel hacking will allow to post on an open forum.

This can be done by buying MMT vouchers from amazon. That way you can get 10X points too and that too within 30days. I think, this can be done without any hiccups.

Their site throws up error for most codes these days. Works well on app.

Then you’re using on the hotel that’s not eligible. Try on some other.

Yes, it appears to be. Just works with hotels for now. Maybe they’ll get it live in sometime.

tell me on thing. will this be covered under the 25000 points cap for diners black. Its not clear from the terms.

Use MMT, not Smartbuy if you want to be sure and successful as Smartbuy is posing some problems for some users.

Would the total dinersclub reward cap apply to this as well?

With some points posting in next cycle, some after 60 days and some after 90 days, it’s going to be tricky. Especially if the max-cap is applied to points credited in each statement, rather than points earned in each statement.

    1. Abhishek Roy

The max cap is on points EARNED per statement cycle. Not on points CREDITED per statement cycle.

Wait..does it mean that even Diners cardholders have to apply the %X code to get 10X reward points?

Thanks for the prompt updates as ever Sid. May you live, prosper, earn and burn more miles 😊

Just wanted to check how does this fit in the overall HDFC strategy? Is it a retaliation against the beauty that is the SBI Prime? Or simply a gimmick to stop market erosion now that wallet loading and EMI are no longer eligible for points?

      Thanks for the kind words.

This offer does make big difference for travellers. So yes, HDFC does seem to burn a lot of marketing budget to keep its name and fame in the market as SBI is doing everything to overtake.

Well, it was possible to use the 10x on Makemytrip before this too!

Just get “Instant gift vouchers” from Amazon. I’ve booked a few flights recently using that.

Thats a great idea Shushansh. Looks like i will use the same as HDFC smartbuy and mmt both are useless with HDFC offers as of now.

What could be the reason behind leaving multi city trips out of the offer?

    Update:
I was on call with cc, the offer has not been implemented by MMT and they are unaware of this offer, the executive even forwarded me the link which indicated offer ended on 31 March 2017, but there was a link of terms and condition when clicked on that it opened the current smartbuy page with 31 March 2018 expiry, he was totally confused and asked me to write a mail to the technical team with the screenshots which i have done. lets hope it is resolved ASAP.

They still haven’t updated the Diners website to include MMT in the list of 10x partners.

    1. Abhishek Roy

Probably, MMT isn’t their regular 10X partner. They have brought them under the 5X/10X program.

    Shushansh,

That was the trick I was speaking about. Cleartrip is even better apparently- you can get all CT discounts even if you pay by voucher, which is not possible under MMT.

    A Roy,

The utility of Amazon goes far beyond anything else. You have already shown how tickets/hotels can be booked using MMT/CT. This is also godsend for all those who distrust/dislike on line purchases. You could buy medicines using Apollo Vouchers, buy grocery using Reliance Fresh vouchers (apart from Amazon direct/Bigbasket), apparel using BB, Pantaloons, Westside, Lifestyle, Fabindia vouchers, premium dining using Dineout GVs… prospects are immense.

Lets pray Amazon remains 10X. We will all be rich men by March 2018 (or at least well travelled ones)!

Can’t see these details on the MMT or Smartbuy sites, and the HDFC Diners site hasn’t been updated with these details, as someone pointed out. Possible to post a link to the offer, please?

HDFC must have mistyped 2018 instead of 2017. Most likely this offer is not there. The site is still giving error.

Tried the code and it gives much less benefit than the other codes available on MMT. On Smart buy the rates are expensive to recover more than the discount provided.
Stick with Amex Plat Travel card Which will get you 7-8 % and apply normal MMT code.

Did the code work. really???I dont think so….HDFC5X is not working on any flight whether domestic or international.

Seems like the 10X reward points on Diners cards is no more applicable. They have removed those lines where it said Diners card would fetch 10X points. Can anyone confirm?

    Hi,
I see from Diners club website that Diners rewards and Diners Premium points are going to be devalued from 0.75 per point to 0.30 per point! more than 50%! still it is effective from 15 Aug only! Being an average earning person Diners rewards helped me save 18000 points in 2 years! Are there any other cards for middle class persons with some reward rates upto 2%?

Looks like HDFC is ignoring queries related to smartbuy/mmt offer. They’re neither replying to mine.

So after a month of raising the issue and persisting with the query, finally the code can now be applied and mmt has acknowledged their mistake. I have almost all banks credit card and HDFC has the most offers but in order to get the points/discounts from the offer the customer has to continuously follow with proofs(huh) . Worst customer service.

Why do you say 10X is back when the coupon code is HDFC5X? This is so confusing.
Also, will it work with Diners? Has anyone tried it?

I tried using Code HDFC5X on MMT using my Diners black 2 days back. Lets see if i get 5x reward points on diners card under this offer?

  22. Hasan Ahmed

They have added a capping of 5000 reward points per transaction. Hence for high value transactions, this promo is not much use
