GVK Business Class Lounge at Mumbai Airport Review (T2 – Domestic)

By | March 25, 2019

Hey guys, it’s been a while since i’ve been around. I was bit occupied with works lately and a visit to this GVK Lounge was a part of it. I visited this amazing lounge during my recent trip to Mumbai. FYI, this lounge is located in Mumbai Airport – Terminal 2 and the access to this lounge is restricted to only business class travelers, domestic.

Mumbai GVK Lounge – Entrance

If you travel by economy class, you can access TFS Travel Club Lounge with cards, which is located just opposite to this lounge. Or, if you travel from Terminal 1, do check out Loyalty Lounge or Good Times Bar. I’ve been to Mumbai T2 terminal earlier but didn’t get a chance to visit this lounge. This time i fortunately got upgraded to JetAirways Premiere (Business class) and so I was able to access this lounge. So here it goes,

Mumbai GVK Lounge Experience

Check-in:
They verified my ticket with someone on phone and then i was allowed in, takes a couple of minutes. I was surprised to see the crowd (especially in dining area) as the access is only for business class travelers. But one thing that makes you feel privileged is, most guys around are suited up, well dressed and are in perfect formal looks. It’s obvious that these guys should be handling C level corporate roles.

Seating and interiors:
The lounge is pretty big and good enough to accommodate Mumbai terminal’s traffic. It has lounge area, bar area, then comes the dining area with different set of seating arrangements with small and high stools overlooking tarmac where you could see flights moving in and out.

It has Luxurious interiors with all fresh looks around. You can see the flights descending towards the airport but can’t see the actual landing. I spent some time spotting the incoming flights while dining.

Food & Drinks:
You get almost everything here – chats, soup, starters, main course buffet, desserts. It’s typically like a 4 star hotel buffet. I had all those chat items: Sev poori, Dahi poori and Bhel poori. It tastes so delicious that I’ll never miss them if I visit again.

Then moved to starters and main course, all of which are pretty tasty as well. I was roaming with plates around for more than a hour 😛 Then you’ve a choice of cool drinks/tea/coffee and i had coke, you’re basically spoilt for choice.

Lounge Service:
I’ve added this as a separate factor now to emphasis the fact that i was treated a lot better here than any other lounge i’ve ever been. There are always guys around you to take care of your needs. They’re super polite and takes care of things faster.

Compared to the set of lounges i’ve visited in domestic sector, i would rate it as #1 Domestic Airport lounge in India, as it deserves to be.

  • Wifi: Yes
  • Food: Yes. Full course Buffet.
  • Ambiance: Luxurious.
  • Recharge Station: Yes.

Overall, it’s an amazing lounge with all the facilities in it. If you’re new to Terminal 2, its the best place to spend 2-3 hrs of your time easily. That being said, no wonder that you should never miss this lounge if you travel by business class from/via Mumbai.

    2. What was the cost of business class ticket in comparison to an economy class ?

First, congrats on your first business class experience!

And wow! I didn’t know that GVK was accessible for business class passengers!

So if I book a flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad in Business class, would I get access there? Is there a GVK lounge there in domestic departure?

      Thanks Shahil!
Yes it is in domestic departure, but this lounge is in Mumbai only. So you won’t be able to access it on Delhi-Ahmedabad route.

This is little bit interesting sidharth. I was once denied access to GVK Lounge when I had JP miles upgraded premier ticket, on the ground that I was a silver tier member that time. Later from the JetPrivilege website I learned that GVK lounge access is limited to Gold and Platinum members only.
Then I never tried for it till the time I got upgraded to Gold.

I still wonder what the guy at the check-in counter was verifying over phone at the time of your entry.

Anyway, congrats on the new experiences you had.

      Anoop,
Yes, its bit confusing. I was denied for Lounge access invite at the check-in counter and later i just gave a try at the lounge and they allowed me in. Many were able to get in with business class tickets without a invite voucher and so i thought its normal.

Travel club accepts Diners? Little bit doubtful. On international terminal they will accept, but not at Domestic T2.

No, they aren’t. Just noticed and updated the answer. They’re however accepting Mastercard/Amex and few others.

Thanks for quick reply. Is it possible to get entry for my relative who will be traveling with me? or they verify name of boarding pass and credit card?

They do verify, but then it depends on your luck 🙂

Just an update about this lounge. Might be applicable to other lounges also.

Till the time I got upgraded to JetPrivilege Gold Tier, I had to use the Travel Club lounge at Mumbai T2 using Priority pass.

Getting Gold Tier status on Jet Airways was really thrilling just due to the fact that it gives access to GVK Lounge even when we are travelling on Economy (except when travelling on Economy Deal Fare). Now I’ve visited GVK Lounge around 5 times during the last 3 to 4 months. All visits were during day time and I had spent around 3 to 4 hours in Mumbai to catch my connection flight to Ahmedabad.

This time I wanted to take little bit risk and try for an overnight stay at GVK Lounge. I was not sure whether they will allow that. It will be like I’ll reaching GVK Lounge around 11pm and my connection flight to Kochi is at 6.20 am on the next day. So it is more than 7 hours.

My Rajkot – Mumbai flight was on the free ticket I got with ICICI Jet Airways Sapphiro card and Mumbai – Kochi was on Premier purchased fully using JP miles redemption.

previously during my visit to travel club lounge, they had told me that the time limit of 3 hours is not applicable if we have priority pass. But I don’t have priority pass now as my HDFC card got upgraded to Diners black. Further GVK Lounge gives access only to business class passengers, Jet Privilege Gold and Platinum members. They do not give card based lounge access.

I reached the lounge around 11 pm and I was told that I’ll be allowed access only for 3 hours. my hopes got shattered. Then the lady in the lounge asked me whether I am a “Transit passenger”. I said that it is true and I am coming from Rajkot. Then I was told they can allow access for 5 hours since I am a transit passenger. Wow, Atleast a small relief. But again, they can give me access at 1 am only. I was again in a dilemma. I have to spent 2 hours outside the lounge and then come back at 1 am to get access for 5 hours.

So I thought my decision was bad and I should not try this again. Suddenly, she asked whether I hold any Visa or Mastercard. I said yes. Then she told me that I can buy additional 3 hours of lounge access using the credit card. I have to visit the Travel club lounge and swipe my card there. Ohh my God… It is a good option, but I have to spend may be around USD 27 or some amount like that which is the standard lounge charge. But I was ready to do that. I really didn’t wanted to wait outside the lounge and come back after 2 hours.

So I went to the travel club lounge. They were expecting me as the lady at GVK has already passed on the information. So I didn’t had to explain more. They swiped my ICICI Sapphiro Visa Card. I was very much curious about how much they will charge.

Ohh.. It is just Rs. 2. It got counted in free lounge visits which come with the card. Again another surprise.. I can use any lounge I want. Both Travel Club and GVK.. It is my choice. Of course, I went ahead with GVK. Just showed the credit card slip and my Jet Airways ticket at GVK and got entry.

So this was really a new and exciting information for me. Hope this will be helpful also for the readers here. I know this message got little bit lengthy, but I wanted not to loose the excitement in narrating when I was able to stay overnight at one of the best lounges in the country.

    Thanks

Well narrated, thanks for sharing your experience in detail.
Lot more excitements and interesting stuffs happen when 2 adjacent lounges are operated by the same company 🙂

Btw, spending 2 hrs in this terminal is also very easy with lots of branded shops around!

Very true. Since both lounges are operated by same agency, the food and drinks offered are same. The difference lies in the ambience only, which is superior at GVK.

Again, the point which I am going to explain may not be important for everyone. But it does matter for transit passengers like me. It is about the number of toilets available. At Travel club lounge, they only got one toilet and I had to wait several times to get entry. On the other hand, GVK got 6 toilets. May seem little bit funny, but it does matter atleast for a few transit passengers.

        Thanks

    Hi Siddharth,
I have recently come across your blog and am truly impressed at the info that you have compiled in one place.

My query is about getting complimentary lounge access to kids. Is there a workaround so that one can take kids, of ages above 5 and below 18 yrs, along with themselves when they access the lounge. I have priority passes and VISA signature cards both in my name and in the name of my wife.

    Thanks in Advance

Right now I am in GVK Lounge. Since I am Vistara gold member, I get GVK lounge access stamped on my Economy lite boarding pass. I came to GVK lounge with family (wife and 2 children) and they asked 3 additional cards to allow my family members so I gave them AMEX platinum and SC Ultimate cards and they accepted.

Yes bcoz GVK has a policy , if atleast one person of the group is invited to the Business class lounges and others have eligible credit cards for lounge access , all can access the GVK biz lounge , they can also choose to pay the fee and access

    Hi,
I was travelling in Indigo Economy, post Lockdown. I was granted access with my DCB.
Due to the Health scare, they had a prepacked set of food.

I noticed the same as well when flying on a business class ticket in early July, that a lot of folks were getting access on the basis of credit cards (Visa/Master as well). Could be a temporary thing during the lockdown, and wasn’t able to ask at the front desk in detail as I was on a work call. Else it would be a bummer to lose the exclusivity and calmness this lounge provides

Now they are serving buffet and they accept most of the cards now as like other TFS lounges
If you are Vistara Gold/Business and travel by economy or travel by Vistara Business then they give complimentary Wine or Beer

    Good afternoon
    One important information
Entry to the lounge is limited to three hours before departure , which is practically two hours before boarding , a marketing strategy to as to look big but actually less.

Are they even checking time these days? I’ve never seen this to be made strict anywhere even-though they usually say so.

Yes I had to swipe two cards to get asses for 2 hrs and 45 min before boarding time ie 3 hrs 45 min before schedule departure.
