JetPrivilege HDFC Bank Diners Club Credit Card Review

By | October 27, 2016

Hdfc bank in partnership with Jet Airways & Diners Club recently released the HDFC Diners Jet Credit Card which is one of the topmost Card in India to accrue a lot of JPMiles. So its a merge of HDFC Bank + Jet Airways + Diners Club put into a single card which is a good combination because HDFC has its terminals widespread across India, Jet Airways known for its eye catching JPmiles program (though its overrated) and Diners club known for its generous Lounge access program and 10X rewards on other variants like Diners Black.

JetPrivilege HDFC Bank Diners Club Credit Card

JetPrivilege HDFC Bank Diners Club Credit Card

Welcome Bonus on JetPrivilege HDFC Bank Diners Club Credit Card

  • Joining Fee: Rs.10,000+ Tax
  • 30,000 Bonus JPMiles
  • 15 JetPrivilege Tier Points within the first 90 days
  • One complimentary Jet Airways Ticket* for domestic travel.
  • Discount voucher* worth INR 750 to be availed for booking a return ticket for domestic travel.

JPMiles Earn Rate:

  • 8 JPMiles for every Rs.150 spent anywhere
  • 3X JPMiles (24 JPMiles) for every Rs.150 spent on Jet Airways Website.

JPMiles Redemption possibilities:

30k Bonus JPmiles as Joining Bonus is like you’re purchasing 1 JPMile @ 0.38 Paise or so. If you’re smart enough, you can redeem the points at Rs.1 per JPMile on a long distance First Class Ticket which is worth it. Redeeming it for domestic flights is almost useless, though you don’t loose anything doing so.

However, note that this 30k JPMiles is possible to avail only if you have done total retail spends of Rs. 1,50,000 and above, within first 90 days. And with 15 JetPrivilege Tier Points, you can get into the Silver Status super fast.

Considering the JPmiles Earn rate of about 5% (assuming 1 JPMile = Rs.1) and considering the actual value of JPMiles on domestic redemption which is about 1 JPMile = 0.40 Paise, this makes the burn rate of JPMiles to 2.5% or less. And on top of it, we’ve to pay taxes, etc and the award redemption limitations are endless.

So, as a whole, i look at it as 2% reward rate which is lesser than my Diners Black Reward rate(3.3%) and Diners Black reward points can get me Revenue Tickets on any airlines. Another Sad thing is 10X rewards programme donot apply for JPMiles cards.

Renewal Benefits:

  • Renewal Fee: Rs.5,000+ Tax
  • 10,000 JP Miles
  • 5 JetPrivilege Tier Points
  • One complimentary Jet Airways Ticket* for domestic travel.
  • Discount voucher* worth INR 750 to be availed for booking a return ticket for domestic travel.

Other Benefits of HDFC Diners Jet Credit Card:

While earning Bonus JPMiles is the major use of the card, it also has other perks like unlimited lounge access and unlimited Golf games across the globe. Here are the full list of other benefits associated with the card.

  • Unlimited Lounge Access across the world
  • EXTRA JPMiles Programme
  • One ‘JetPrivilege Tier Point*’ on every Rs. 1,50,000/- spent (retail) on your card.
  • 5% discount* on all domestic JetAirways tickets
  • UNLIMITED Complimentary Golf games (Green Fee Waiver) at almost 20 golf courses in India and over 40 golf courses world over.

Features of HDFC Diners Jet Credit Card:

  • CardExpert Rating: 4.5/5 [yasr_overall_rating]
  • Reward rate: ~5.3% assuming 1 JPMile = Rs.1 (8 JPMiles for every Rs.150 Spend)
  • Accelerated Rewards: With EXTRA JPMiles programme.
  • Complementary Airport lounge access: Yes, unlimited across the globe
  • Fuel Surcharge Waiver: 0% surcharge (Minimum transaction of INR 400. Maximum cash back of INR 1,000 per statement cycle)
  • Foreign Exchange Markup fee: 2% + Service Tax
  • Personal Concierge Service: Global Concierge Assistance for all your travel & other needs. Its kind of virtual assistant service over phone. (I’ve tried on my Diners Black, its kind of useless)

Overall, it maybe a great card for Frequent JetAirways travelers or for someone who saves miles for that one dream vacation abroad. But for me, its almost useless as my domestic travels are mostly on Indigo which is being taken care by Amex Platinum travel card and for foreign travel i hardly find Jet Airways flying to SE Asian countries.

Also, the redemption possibilities within India is not so attractive. While the Card by itself is a good one compared to other Jet Cards, i don’t find it better than Diners Black in any way. So i may never go for this card unless i want to play with JPMiles some day or other. 😀

Do you have this card? How do you Burn JPMiles to make the most out of it? Share your experiences in comments below.

Hi Siddharth, I have observed that when hdfc refunds the fuel surcharge, they do not refund the service tax. Some of my friends say that by escalating the issue to hdfc they do return the service tax. But when no service is rendered how is it they are charging us service tax? Pls enlighten.

The Surcharge part is actually some kind of profit to them on which S.Tax is usual thing. They’ve mentioned clearly on the website that S.Tax will not be refunded. However, yes, if you escalate, you may get it. But its just few rupees that its not worth chasing them unless you fuel in lakhs 🙂

Thank you for the review. I am not sure if this is temporal in nature or permanent, however, as of now you can earn 24 JPMiles on every Rs 150 spent on every flight ticket booked on jetairways.com (3x compared to normal)

Siddharth are you aware of this being temporary or permanent feature of the card? Is this one as difficult to get as HDFC Diners Black? (are you aware of the criteria for getting this card?)

    Thanks again

      Yes,
3X is there, permanent i believe, but, i always wonder why do people need to fly on Jet while they can fly free on Indigo with Amex Plat card vouchers.
So haven’t given much time on that. Also, Diners 10X rewards are there to beat this 3x points.

Yes, its as tough as Black card.

What do you suggest as a better card – HDFC World (Rs. 2500) v/s Regalia First (Free). I am being offered an upgrade from my MoneyBack card.

Regalia First should be good. Jet World is whole diff world. You need to choose what benefits you need.

Thanks Siddharth. I am trying to negotiate a first year free for Jet World as part of the corporate offer going on in my company. Would help me try out the card. I am interested currently using the card for airline miles.
Regalia First also looks interesting, the LTF component is enticing for sure.

If your main purpose is miles, then definitely go for Jet World

Regalia has been downgraded recently – No Taj benefit, Priority pass visits reduced

Jet World is being given as ‘First Year free’, I recently got for the same offer

Can you write an article about the golf access if you have tried it? Free golf access looks incredible. But what would be the hidden charges if you actually make a visit.

There isn’t any hidden charges as far as i know. however, i couldn’t write much on that as i haven’t tried Golf.

I currently have the Jet Airways HDFC World Credit Card and was wondering should I discontinue that and go for the Diners. I fly Jet domestic quite frequently. Wanted to know whether the bonus miles and 15 tier points will be credited to me or is it only for new members.

This is obiviously a better card than world card but if you are ok with less acceptance at pos and ready to pay annual fees, then try upgrading to it.
Eligibility for this credit card is quite high and you will get the 15 tier points once u pay joining fee.

I am writing this mail after getting no satisfied replies from jetprivilege on account of blocking of my access and privileges on 30 November 2016 to JP 302126134 issued to me by ICICI bank with JETAIRWAYS sapphiro card and JP 232031111 issued to me by HDFC bank with HDFC DINERS CLUB INTERNATIONAL card . Everytime i got a reply since 30th November ” We wish to inform you that we are currently checking on the issue raised by you and will revert to you shortly.May we request your patience and understanding in the meantime” , I dont understand does it take really 14-15days to check activities of any account whether it was according to your rules or not . I would like to know first of all when my mobile number and email id are already available in Jetpriviledge accounts then why i was not contacted . Same problem happened with me on 16th March 2016 ( ReferenceID=005-434-585′ 16th March and 01st July 2015 but was rectified with two working days . This time i have been following with your jetpriviledge team Since 30th November and even i Have recording of calls made to your customer care team on 011-39893333 and i was given assurance that with 24hrs my accounts will be activated but as usual you guys don’t care
    for customers .

What is the eligibility criteria for this card? Minimum salary, age etc.

    1. Vineet

Salary eligibility for this card is 1.75 lakhs/ month. However if you have good relationship with bank, you can get your case reviewed.

Age eligibility is same for more or less every card.

Hi, I’m considering this card basis their jpmiles rewards and domestic lounge access. How would you rate the acceptance of this card in general, in retail as well as online? I’ve heard Diners card has limitations among merchants.

    Hi Sid

Just redeemed a lot of Jet privilege miles (58,000) for Amazon vouchers 1 mile = Rs. 0.2. Considering that the points were expiring, don’t mind the loss.

Point I’m thinking is that if a card has only travel/ jet privilege as redemption option, then he can get Amazon/ other vouchers through this method even though it reduces your reward value by half.

    Hi Sid
Great work by you, very comprehensive reviews must say. While I want to one day use the Diners Black but on the HDFC hierarchy I am still on Regalia First .
While I am a frequent flyer on Jet with Platinum tier. There are two questions I have . ..Will I get Jet HDFC Diners club card easily if I apply using cards portal on Jet privilege. And once I have this card will it help to get the Diners Black .
